Ludicrous take Calvert-Lewin is taller than Wharton and (more importantly) is one of Leeds most dangerous aerial threats. Palace have 3 centre backs and Mateta who all all taller, better in the air, and who would all have been a better bet than Wharton to mark Leeds primary aerial threat. It was a tactical blunder
-
I'd be tempted to stick with football if I was Wharton.
-
Defeatist attitude? He clearly isnt a player whose strengths include winning headers. Where he plays means that he rarely will be involved in winning headers. If suggesting that he shouldnt be marking a big, powerful striker who is really strong in the air from a set piece is me being defeatist, then fine. I never said anything about giving up either.
-
Why is a 6 footer clearly not going to win many headers ? For Wharton's sake I hope he doesn't have the sort of defeatist attitude shown in your post. To reach the very top in any walk of life requires a determination to be the best possible, not just giving up when things seem hard. To quote the old prayer " Do not ask for tasks equal to your powers, ask for powers equal to your task". A shining example of the right mentality would be Andy Murray where early in his career it looked as if stamina might be an issue; he worked his socks off to be one of the iron men of tennis. There is no reason why Wharton can't do something similar.
-
Another contrarian view. He clearly isnt a player who is going to win many headers nor should he be marking the oppositions main aerial threat known for scoring headers, if indeed he was.

No one said that he should have started on the bench on Saturday. The point is that as is the case in tbe majority of positions, we have no choice but to keep playing him until he breaks down. Thats unfair that he was playing within himself. His durability is an exception to the rule. Nothing that you can say will convince me that our squad is anything other than very thin in particular in certain areas. -

Merry Christmas to all the people behind the scenes and thanks for your sterling work. It's sometimes taken for granted that the board will always be here without the realisation that there is some heavy lifting going on in the background. -
Makelele is 5ft 9inches tall so was not going to be defending balls in to the air at corners. In contrast Wharton is 6ft tall so it is not unreasonable to expect him to defend .

Maybe the training is more intense than we realise. If Ismael goes off training performance when he’s thinking about selection it could be players are going all out on the training pitch. I see Morris is out injured at the moment. -

They are quick enough to spend on the ground when it comes to flashing their logo around or building new tv gantries so they can't see the empty riverside in India. -
Rohl has steadied the ship thats for sure, they've been ok in the league since he arrived, but they are lacking in real quality across the squad, its going to take a big rebuild to bring them back to title contenders.

He has taken off Gudjohnson In nearly every match mid second half. Lots to be critical about but apart from the big spenders you don't see many teams number 1 goal threats being rested and left out For example Derby wouldn't leave Morris out or Pompey wouldn't leave Laing out We would have all been going mad on here if Gudjohnson had started on the bench v Millwall and we ended up not scoring and drew or lost the match -

It's basic pride. Nothing more nothing less. Some people let their house/garden/personal appearance slip, others take pride and ensure they or their property are always maintained to a reasonable standard. It speaks volumes as the face of the club - the first impression tens of thousands will get as they walk towards the ground or sit in it. Some will of course not be able to afford to always do that. But I'm sure the billionaires of Pune can afford to look after basic maintenance. In some ways it helps highlight our plight because it is living, breathing proof of the indifference and lack of pride and respect they have for the institution they have taken hostage. It ends any suggestions from the head in sand brigade that these are decent, well meaning, caring people. The clear proof for all people who visit Ewood is that is not the case - they can't even go to the trouble of ensuring basic maintenance - pitch, paint, signs, even the focal point of the JW statue - are kept in a decent condition. Nor can they hide behind the convenient 'FFP' excuse which they have been able to do for so many other aspects of their negligent regime. And if you've so little interest, pride or care to look after such trivial things then you can forget them worrying about results, performances, league position. -

Taking the goalkeeper out of the equation I would suggest that centre halves do the least running of all the players. Regarding Hyam, I always felt he was playing within himself. One of the reasons why he never got injured. -

When Birmingham's current owners came in, one of the first things they did was give St Andrews a facelift. Obviously in the long term they're planning to move to a new stadium, but the existing ground had a load of issues, looked shite and knackered. I went there last time we played there and it looked miles better. In most parts all they had done was clean it up, repaint it, upgrade signs and billboards, add new digital/electronic features, etc. but I definitely noticed the difference. It probably cost a million quid, but like the Venkys, they're not short of the money. It's a small thing but it doesn't go unnoticed and it puts pride into the club and the fan base. -

Can we add Robert Coar to the title of this thread please? Why is this guy still on the board and not in a retirement home? He’s as silent and complicit as anyone at the club and getting an easy ride for someone who’s been at the club so long. Coar OUT -

And then when the realisation kicks in for those that didn't boycott they'll be wishing they had. Because our club will have plummeted never to return. Then they'll be the ones saying this is shit I'm not bothering watching this tripe anymore.
