I think we have done pretty well out of the transfer window. When you consider that most people were wondering how much money we had to spend in the first place we have actually made a profit, strenghtened the squad imo and still have plenty of money in bank for january or next summer.

Sold Bellamy for £6.5, Kuqi for £2.5m, Douglas say £500k, giving us a total of £9.5m

We bought Benni for £2.25, Roberts £2.25, Jeffers free, Ooijer for £2m for a total of £7m.

Thats pretty good business in my book considering we prob had around £4m to spend giving us some £6m for a rainy day, or something has gone very wrong by january.

Personally I am gaining more and more respect for Hughes, he doesn't have much to work with, but in my opinion he is doing a sterling job.

Selling Kuqi, who to be honest i will miss for his attitude and efforts, for £2.5m is amazing business, I am sure he would have hoped to have signed another player in the window. Who knows something may have fallen through at the last minute. But with Tugay back I can see us winning out next game at Sheff Utd and getting our season started.

Nonda may well turn out to be a quality signing, or may not be the same player he was hyped up to be - thanks to the beauty of the loan deal we are in pole position if he does turn out good.

I am positive that come the Jan window the club will assess whether we are in a position to push for a higher position and hopefully gamble on another signing, or if we are out of europe I can see us keeping the same lot of players till the end of the season.

i dont think it has been a good summer for us losing are best player and replacing him with 3 strikers who have scored once between them in 3 games, we have signed an aging defender and a striker on loan who will spend most time in the treatment room. most people would of said we need a new left back and right mid before the summer and we havnt got any of them.

Not as ecstatic as a WHammer but if you look at it this way:

Forwards

Last season: Bellamy, Pongolle, Dickov, Kuqi with Johnson one for the future and Bentley if needed

This season: Benni, Nonda, Roberts, Jeffers with Gally and Derbyshire for the future and Bentley if needed

Midfied

No change apart from Emerton being now only an emmergency option and Peter and Gally realistic covering options

Defence

Last season: Nelsen, Zura, Todd, Neill, Gray, Matteo, Amo, Vratty and a bunch of youngsters and the Axe

This season: Nelsen, Zura, Ooijers, Todd, Gray, Neill, Emerton, Matteo and a bunch of youngsters and the Axe

Keeper

Added Jason Brown who looks like serious competition for Brad's place

And we made a £2m profit!

Compared with the wholesale personnel changes we might have faced, there is good continuity with the squad which came 6th and has reached two Cup semi-finals in two years and a general strengthening all round.

In previous seasons, we would not have hung onto Savage, Nelsen, Neill, Emerton, Reid and MGP and to have all six of them at Ewood at the start of September is a major achievement by the Rovers management team.

The crunch question is how we cope with losing the unique talent/threat that is Bellamy.

I do expect Rovers to make a significant move in the market in January and that Dunn will be a Rover again if he proves himself this season.

A rare strand of realism in this post, yes, a few years ago we would have lost everyone who was touted, Reidy, MGP, Lucas (I know we still will at some stage) Emerton etc etc.

As it stands we are DEF' stronger than we were last year, the loan signing looks useful, At last we offload:

4 Year Contract Douglas (Mr Overrated)

Get rid of that useless Italian ponce

Let Vratty go (Let's face it, he was just too slow)

Got rid of Mr Moaning & Constantly Offside Dickov (Although I will miss him clattering their CH's every game)

& We get an experienced international CH in & 2.5 Mil for Shefki !!!!

(Where was MH's shop? Winter Hill??? What a good deal!)

We do look dangerous up front, and midfield is basically the same as last year, hopefully with Reidy & Bentley stepping up to the plate this year, MH will have something lined up for January in Midfield.

I think maybe it was more of a case of there not being the quality midfielder available at the right price, rather than Hughes simply resting on his laurels with his midfielders. On the other hand, we may have a star in the youth teams that is on the verge of breaking through?

I'm glad that Hughes hasn't simply 'splashed the cash' just because it's there to be spent. We will bide our time, evaluate properly how our squad is performing this season, and then buy reinforcements in January if need be.

We may find that, compared to other clubs of similar size i.e Everton, we have the upper hand in the transfer window come January.

overal don't think we step up a gear, still things to be concerned about, so far biggest surprise was Robert look weak against top 6 teams, maybe better for lower league teams. hopefully i'm wrong though.

not improving midfild was a problem, but really we need Pedersen to gain some form i think the right side will be fine

Dreaming of Dunn coming back is nice but not realistic. The relationship between the two clubs would not help such a transfer especially if he starts playing well.

The fact is that we have not really built from last season - we would have signed all the players we have regardless of where we finished.

Roberts might have been "sussed" by the Prem opposition but I doubt Sparky would pick a poor forward. If he doesn't come good pdq and perhaps irrespective of his own form, he'll be watching Benni and Nonda from the bench.

John, Dunn is in the last year of his contract so he can sign a pre-contract agreement with Rovers so he is metaphysically our's now perhaps. The only time Brum come into it is if we need to deal to get him out of St Andrews on Jan 1.

Stubbs hadn't sussed him. Unfortunately he wasted his 2 golden chances. I must say I am not impressed yet with his ability in the air.

No doubt I'll get ripped for this but I've a sneaky feeling that Jeffers might have a bigger part to play as the season progresses than Roberts.

Overall I think we did ok in the transfer window. We really only lost one player from our strongest starting eleven (Bellamy) and that wasn't our choice - and did everything possible to hang onto him.

We re-signed several players first team players linked with other clubs on new longer contracts.

We got rid of several squad players reducing the wage bill, and bring in transfer fees without weaking the first choice team.

All the players brought in apart from Brown and Jeffers are for the first team rather than the squad. In the case of Brown he is a promising young international goalkeeper. That being a specialist position you need good back up and someone for the future as Brad isn't getting any younger. Jeffers is a low cost gamble - a once talented young player who lost his way - if Hughes can help him find his way again he will be a great signing, if not there is very little lost. Neither Brown or Jeffers cost us any transfer fee.

All the players brought in for the first team were seemingly signed at transfer fees that were lower than you might have expeceted to pay - so there seems to have been good work done negotiating. We had no choice on the fee for Bellamy but still made a profit, and made a £2.5m profit on Kuqi who we got for nothing last year. I'm sorry to see Kuqi go, but realistically he was now at best 4th choice and to get that sort of money for a squad player is too good to turn down.

Overall we made a profit on transfers.

It's been mentioned that we needed a new right winger and left back. In directly we have got those. Gallagher has returned from loan at Stoke and right wing is most likely to be where he can force his way into the side if he plays well enough. Emmerton has signed a new contract and also seems to have been persuaded to play right back. If he continues to play as well as he has done at right back, then playing left back is the only way Lucas Neill will be able to get into the side if everyone is fit.

The only disapponting thing for me is that Lucas Neill didn't go during the transfer window. Don't get me wrong I hink he is a great player and strenghens the side and I would be delighted if he signs a new contract - however - I fear that all that will happen now is that he will sign a pre-contract agreement with Liverpool in January and leave for nothing at the end of the season. I think we would have been better off with even £2m cash or a straight swap for Warnock.

You know Liverpool didn't want Lucas Neill too bad because for a club of their "stature", a paltry $ million pounds is nothing (or even lighter 2million pounds and Warnock).I hope this wiil show Mr Neill our desire for him and how we value him.Sparky's latest quotes seem to be along those lines.I am happy with everyone we have signed since July 1.In theory we all would have desired the Attacking creative midfielder but the reality is he was not out there for us b/c no way do we spend the money Celtic wanted nor paying Fulham man's wages as reported.All we can do now is see how they perform as the pieces have been assembled for the first part of our puzzle.I hope we are in the top ten and still playing in Europe when we are discusssing the next transfer window!

I am very pleased with all of our signings and feel the team is a lot better off than last season. I will be extremely pleased if Rovers finish in the top 10 once again with some success in Europe.
