[Archived] Dunny On His Way Back

Recommended Posts

I have headr from a few people that Dunn was at Ewood either Monday or Tuesday. Some said it was for a medical but would that not be a little early?

Don't believe em. If we were interested in him than I would imagine that he would be at Brockhall for a medical or alternatively some privat hospital in some specialists consulting rooms. The only medical facilities at Ewood relevent to Dunny to be inspected is the stretcher to see if his arse will hang over the sides.

and as for the personal terms, I reckon Dunny would like to test our Hollands pies before signing the eat-as-you-play contract :)

I would be very happy if we sign Dunn, lets hope we get the good old player back injury free :rover: but what are the chances.. :(

Ignore them Brownie.

I think the problem is that its hardly a secret now as theres so many different sources saying the same thing. I have however heard it from a couple who are normally accurate (including brownie), so theres a good chance this will happen

I should have Ste, I know.

But you hear something which is both interesting and genuine, post it and a couple of smart alecs (self censored) produce a couple of dull predictable gags.

Winds me up, and puts others off posting

Brownie, I apologise. As a "relative" newcomer to the site, I didn't know that your sources can be relied upon. There is so much drivel on here about Dunn (because he's a local lad presumably) that I have to take things with a pinch of salt.

Without him they have to make do with Danns and Johnson.

We could have done with Johnson this season certainly to bolster the squad. Good player who never lets the team down and can play in a variety of positions. A real mistake of Souness to let him go so cheap.

Not that he is anything special...just better and more reliable than squad players we currently have such as Matteo and Mokoena. No doubt a lot cheaper wages than Matteo as well.

Brownie and the truth.

LOL....I'd rather believe the rumours he gets from reading the red tops he has looked at in the newsagents.

And unsuprisingly he fails to get censored for calling fellow posters ** very naughty boys.

Actually, I noticed that last thing too- although I'd have said censured (although censored also works). But then there is one rule for favourites.

I would say there has to be something in this. So many people are saying the same things.

We won't have long to wait to find out though as, if the situation is as it is described, he will move on the first or the second of January.

And to be honest even those of us who are not huge fans of Dunn can't really argue we don't need him, we need ANY quality midfielder at the moment, even if they can only manage half of the season's games. Peter, Mokoena and Gally are not providing the sort of first team backup we desire, and Dunn has the huge advantage of being able to play all the way across midifeld and potentially up front too.

I would suggest though that we probably need another more workmanlike midfielder also.

I wouldn't be so premature. He who laughs last and all that.

Whilst it may be a little dispiriting to have news that you've found out for yourself greeted with derision, I don't think there was a need to fly off the handle quite so badly.

The reason, Bryan, was I was wondering whether it was really worth posting in case the dull sister's cousin's milkman's dog gags came out again.

So when they did you can imagine what I thought.

The only thing that winds me up more is people referring to Chelsea as Chelski.

Anyhow, no worries, apologies for my terrible language.

Ray-Von, thanks for your post.

are you not a Dunny fan then?

I am a big fan of his abilities but not his temperament nor his application and ambition. If you trawl back far enough you will see that I rated him more than Joe Cole when they were both in the U21's ( Joe Cole was entertaining without end product but at that time Dunny could slit opponents throats by scoring imp goals). Unfortunately the roles are now completely reversed. Maybe injuries played a part but imo an equal influence was Dunny's own self destruct button that made him think that he was the finished article when he was clearly not and put him on his stupid no-win collision course with our last manager.

When you say the roles are now completely reversed are you refering to the fact that Dunny is apparantly fit and ready to play whilst Joe Cole has hardly kicked a ball this season?

As for falling out with the previous manager, how anyone could do that is still beyond me, a more approachable man who is open to new ideas and second opinions you'd struggle to find anywhere. [/sarcasm]

While I supported Souness when he was our manager (and I admit I was wrong), I don't think you can blame Dunn for falling out with GS, as several of the players did the same during his last years.

Think it through a bit Daje........ Dunne owed GS a debt of gratitude. Souness initially 'made' Dunny by putting him in the side when Kidd showed no inclination to at all. So in fact it appears 2 managers saw flaws in Tyrone. If my memory serves me right Dunn fell out with him cos Souness played him wide and Dunn wouldn't play there for his (favourite home town / supported as a kid / never ever want to play anywhere else) club and demanded to play in the middle. With Tugay already established there as playmaker there was no chance of that position. Flitty was capt and growler so Dunny was never going to be better than him at getting a foot in and being the midfield destroyer...... he has as much graft in him as a dole queue, so really with 5.5mill dildo money on the table for a gobby kid there was only ever going to be one outcome. At 26+ maybe he would have had a point but at 21/22 he had none and I'll wager has lived to regret his character weakness.

His wing days are long gone so I dare say that if fit and if Sav is prepared to drop deeper and if we sacrifice Toogs then Tyrone might fit in and play just behind the forwards but its a gamble. If he is cheap enough then he could alternate on the bench with Tugay and deputise for him after 60 mins. It might eke a bit longer out of both their careers.

One positive is that the playmaker would be just behind the forwards with the ball winner playing deep a la a certain very successful team that Hughes used to play for ....... and thats maybe a point worth noting.

That's true, I remember at the time I saluted GS for this, as I had hopes for Dunn as a future player after the Lillestrøm friendly in 99. First Rovers player I spoke to as well, he seemed a really nice lad at the time :)

He even got number 8 after Kevin the Great!

when Kidd showed no inclination to at all. So in fact it appears 2 managers saw flaws in Tyrone.

Also true, although after Brian Kidds succesful destruction of Rovers, I put no trust in his judgement of players ;)

There's probably more, but Jansen strikes me as the only good player he brought in. Gillespie too. Probably more as he had over a whole year to waste Jacks money, but Kidds preferred 11s during his time strikes me as the worst ever teams during my around 15 years as a Rovers supporter

Your memory is probably better than mine as I can't remember why they fell out with each other, but I think you may be right.

Still, I think this would probably not happen with another manager, as we all know GS made quite a habit of falling out with players. Giving Cole away for free after buying him for 7.5m (or so?) was the peak of his arrogancy with the players.

On the presumption that Tugay can't go on forever - I would play a midfield formation something like :-

Reid Savage MGP

Dunn

thats presuming that Dunn does arrive. With MGP and Reid expected to "tuck in" it would leave us a little narrow at times - but our forwards rarely seem able to convert what little wing play we have anyway.

If we had the right forward - he would also be excellent in a 5 man midfield - maybe something for future away matches ?

Regarding his falling out with GS - it could have been partly about being asked to play wide right - but by all accounts GS was poor at explaining his decisions and relating to players. Maybe this got up Dunn's nose as much as being asked to play there.

Reid Savage MGP

Dunn

Personally I think the most likely position Dunn will fill is the left wing slot. He has played there a fair bit and I don't think Sparky will put him in the centre of the park because he'll then not be able to use Savage in the way he was bought for.

Pedersen provides very little in terms of creativity out there, I'm sure Dunn playing a free-ish role, drifting in the from the left will be more productuve. It was the role he was pencilled in for by many people when he was being talked about as a future England international, and one he played regularly for the U21s.

I'm actually quite excited by the thought of potentially having Warnock and Dunn on the left side.
