JAL Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 SG194, you get wound up too easily, its bad for your blood pressure! This is all early posturing, really. "Liverpool state 12 million, but its really 8 million. Blackburn "offer" 6 million, but 8 million "is way too high". Its all negotiations and tactics. If the club starts saying that 8 million is fine, the number will inevitably climb close to 12 before its all done. We play coy and get good deals and how many bad buys have we made in the last 2 seasons? If only were as easy to not worry about it all and just look at the papers at the start of next season... it'd do a world of good. Good post, totally agree but bad buys has to be DAVID DUNN at £2.1m ranks as a bad bad buy, local lad, local hero, Rovers fan.. no matter what i havent seen when witnessing Dunny playing and think of what Rovers need in central midfield to match some of the top players in the world is that cutting edge, by going past the forwards bursting into the box and scoring like Lampard, Gerrard, Scholes, Rosicky these lads are the standard to beat but Dunny comes nowhere near to these lads. If Dunny can get that extra yard of speed into his game then i might change my point of view on him but at this moment in time he aint good enough.

What a stupid post. You've just listed some of the finest midfield players in Europe as 'the standard to beat'...did you actually consider how much they're worth and how big their wages will be? Why on Earth do you expect a £2 million midfielder to be anywhere near a group of £10-£30 million players?

Erm, none of those players you mention are £2.1 million players though, are they? There's no sense in moaning because we don't have a Lampard, Gerrard or Scholes. Oddly enough they're not all that easy to come by!! Edit: Le chuck beat me to it...
USRoverME Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 What a stupid post. Just to be clear, I agree, except for that part where he liked my post.... that part of his post wasn't stupid.... right?
brfcshabba Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 On a side note, United have been playing Football Manager and have signed Nani and Anderson from Porto. Both look to very good signings indeed

Why on Earth do you expect a £2 million midfielder to be anywhere near a group of £10-£30 million players? So what your saying is that you except a lower standard of footballer for the Rovers than the big four and others....what i'm saying is if your Sambas, Friedels, Nelsens, Macarthys, MGP'S, Bentleys, Derbyshires, Warnocks, Emmertons, Savages played at Dunny's level or gave the kind of perfomances that Dunny gave last season - Rovers would be playing in a lower league at the end of it! I want to see the probability of Rovers winning more games next season increase not decrease and i identify Dunny as a weakness to Rovers first team.
Eddie Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 He's been a bad buy if he doesn't improve a bit more. If we did spend £2 million on him then that is a lot for a club like us and he would need to be a definite starting line-up player, which at the moment he most certainly isn't. He showed some good signs though so I think we have to give him a little longer before we really cast judgment. So I think both of you have a bit of a point (althogh Jal, I'll never understand why people pluralise individual's names, as far as I'm aware it isn't Samba's entire family that has proved to be a good signing for our backline).
bluebruce Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 On a side note, United have been playing Football Manager and have signed Nani and Anderson from Porto. Both look to very good signings indeed I'm seeing that they've signed Anderson, but nothing about them signing Nani. I do, however, note that Sporting have been reported today as saying they won't let him go unless his clause is met.

EwoodGlory Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Andersen plays on the Left and Nani in the Centre from what i've seen
bluebruce Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Andersen plays on the Left and Nani in the Centre from what i've seen I've always heard him described as a winger, and on wikipedia it has him as a 'wing forward' (Edit: I'm referring to nani)

Dunn almost single handedly got us in the f.a cup final, that effort alone is enough to see some light at the end of the tunnel with a full pre-season with rovers! A fit Davy Dunn
tcj_jones Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 What the (Please don't use that word again)?! Dunn has been a an incredible buy! He has slowly improved, in terms of performance and fitness, and completely showed Lampard up in the semi final, where he was the best man on the pitch. Where the hell has this come from? I thought it had been widely recognized by now that, despite us paying a larger fee than expected, Dunn had come good and was worth the outlay. I just don't understand this...
Blueboy Downunder Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 agree with you flops. i am astounded that there is still people out there that think dunny was a bad buy for us. then again, i can only think that these people are only looking for the negative side of any player to vindicate their own opinions of them. baffled
des Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 when you think of the costs of midfield players today, then 2 mill for David dunn in my view is a good buy. Towards the end of the season his fittness was far better, and is all round game was coming on nicely. I have yet to see a bad buy from MH. This can not be said for most managers.
Exiled_Rover Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 The united official site confirms they have agreed a fee with both clubs £47m on three players. This is beyond absurd - no wonder football is dying on it's arse.
modes98 Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 £47m on three players. This is beyond absurd - no wonder football is dying on it's arse. A world class DM, 1 19 year old sensation and 1 20 year old sensation. Sounds like a bargain to me. After buying Ronaldo i don't think we can question RFW's younger signings, however still theres always kleberson.
SuperStella Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Got the times today, shows all transfer links...... Rovers after: - Jagielka Beattie Bellamy Koumas Haestad
Esulx Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Jagielka on his way to Everton. Beattie on his way to the glue factory. Bellamy would be a great re-signing. Koumas is a similar player to Reid so dont think we need him. Haestad wasnt good enough for Wigan, why would Rovers want him? I'd like Hughes to buy players who would improve our 1st team, not our bench.
frosty Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Got the times today, shows all transfer links...... Rovers after: - Jagielka Beattie Bellamy Koumas Haestad What happened to that Haestad fella after he went on loan to Wigan? Did they send him back?
Cocker Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 What happened to that Haestad fella after he went on loan to Wigan? Did they send him back? I think he played one game - set the other team up for a goal. And was discovered to be pants. So yes, they sent him back
gumboots Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 That's exactly what they said they'd do. Don't expect Rovers to do their buying in full public view. They keep it as quiet as they can for as long as they can. Those are just names the press has come up with from insubstantial rumours and decided to run with, some because the connections obvious or we've been linked with them in the past. Sorry meant t quote Esulx there.
Esulx Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Gray the first one out of the door... http://www.thisislancashire.co.uk/sport/fo...ver_and_out.php edit: Oakland, you've obviously got quicker fingers!!!
