vizcaya Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Apologies if this link has been posted, all the PL clubs covered Pound for pound Blackburn could be the best team in the league Nice quote from that article: "The main concerns are about squad depth, especially in centre midfield, with David Dunn still awaiting judgement after all these years, Tugay awaiting his bus pass and Aaron Mokoena awaiting consistency."
LeChuck Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 1 Man Utd - 2 Chelsea - 3 Arsenal - 4 Liverpool - ------------ 5 Newcastle - 6 Tottenham - 7 Blackburn - ----------- The cut-off point for Europe isn't always seventh, you're assuming there that one of the top four teams takes the European places from each of the domestic cups. Only 5th actually guarantees UEFA Cup football.
andrew92 Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 ""Blackburn still played some horrible football last year. As with Everton, they have no chance of progressing until they start believing in their ability to play a progressive game - and sign the players to do so, but there is no genius in the squad. 8th place and a cup run but no improvement..."" Derby County Billy Davies might be a very good manager, but I don't think even he has a chance in hell at keeping a poor Derby side in the Premiership. Birmingham might have a lot of depth to their squad but, to me, it is severly lacking in quality and I cannot see them surviving. Hutchings has got some good fighters in his squad and, although I think he has done reasonably well in the close season, Baines will be a big loss and I don't think a manager learning his trade will be able to keep Wigan up this season. I think Sunderland will survive by the skin of their teeth and a lot of that will be to do with the personality of Roy Keane and the way he influences his squad. They've hugely overspent on mediocre players this summer, but I think the squad is just about good enough to survive. I think Middlesbrough and Fulham will spend most of the season in the dog fight with the likes of Reading, Villa, Bolton and Portsmouth entering it at stages. At the top, I still see it as a two horse race. Torres will no doubt bag plenty of goals but his strike partners don't fill me with confidence. If anything, I think Arsenal might have strengthened this close season and a huge reason for that is the fitness of Van Persie, who will be immense for them this season. He and Da Silva could become a potent combination. Spurs will push Arsenal all the way, but I think the gunners will just about pip them to the Champions League place. 12th - 6th was extremely hard to predict. West Ham and Man City have strengthened hugely this summer, but the squads will need time to gel. I think there are also still a few positions that need strengthening, especially with West Ham after their latest set of injuries. Everton will be pushing for Europe all season, but I just don't think they've strengthened enough this summer. Newcastle are my team to take sixth. With Fat Sam in charge, an extremely strong strike force and a new back line, I think they have what it takes, as much as it pains me to say. I think Blackburn will have a great season and 6th place is by no means beyond us. However, I have predicted with a little caution a 7th place finish.
