tony gale's mic Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 My Newcastle man reckons they have been speaking non-stop for a few days about the Warnock deal. There is also interest in Shorey, but Warnock is first choice. Keegan has had a nightmare signing defenders so far and they believe this one 'can be done.' Now, someone must be encouraging them. It's that simple. Surely we have to say "enough is enough" and reject all offers? He can't be that desperate to join, theyre not exactly big four, and we're having enough of an exodus this summer as it is...

1&OnlyRover Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Nicko, according to todays LET we have made a staright cash bid for robinson last night http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport...d_for_Robinson/ and rovers will not be making an offer for castillo, shame all the hype suroonding him, now we will have to look at someone else, any names yet nicko http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport...r_for_Castillo/
roversinmyblood Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Yes. Injury. ON BRESCIANO...I am always wary of players described as 'versatile' - a pal of mine watched him for another Premier League side last season and said he wasn't good enough. ON WARNOCK...does the player want to go? ON PENNANT...Never ever been worth £6 million. Won't happen at that price. ON CASTILLO...dying to see his side of the story in the Ecuadorian papers...to describe him as having a 'bad attitude' is ludicrous. Nicko, are you saying that the signing of Castillo has been cancelled or that so far he is not impressing Ince in training and that it looks doubtful?
RibbleValleyRover Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Selling Warnock would have to be one of the most stupid decisions we could do at this moment in time. If it happens we have to question the decision making at either managerial or board level. A period of stabilisation I thought was on the cards for a new manager but we will be lucky to make the top half of the table if we lose Warnock, Brad, Bentley and Roque. Way to go Sparky for potentially starting a Cataclysmic turn of events!
nicko Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Nicko, are you saying that the signing of Castillo has been cancelled or that so far he is not impressing Ince in training and that it looks doubtful? Rovers have called it off 'at this time' - whatever that means. He obviously was not the player the manager thought he was. I wonder if they will try and negotiate a cheap deal if they don't get anyone else on the list?
67splitscreen Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 oh god! do you think ewood will be bombed by terrorists within the next week aswell? Not he best post, or reply.
roverfanuk Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 I know allot of people are going to disagree with me right now about this. But i cant help but feel a little releaved about this Castillo saga. He would have been rather expensive, and is fairly unknown, especially how he would handle the EPL. Why dont we put in an offer for Denilson, 6 million plus 30% sell-on clause...

Majiball Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Cole has kept himself in great physical condition, Fowler always looks slow and overweight and is blighted by injuries. I think his record of a mere 32 goals in 123 games since 2003 suggests he has lost his goalscoring ability. I can't understand why Ince believes he can get him back to his form of eight/nine years ago when he couldn't even manage it at Liverpool when his motivation and desire would be at a peak. I agree he's not what he was, but even at half what he was at Pool he could way in with a few. Don't forget benni, roberts et al did not exactly score a lot last year, Cruz was the only one he consistently hit the net. Its is last crack at the prem if we bomb him its back to the championship if he even stays in the game. It could work out well but I doubt it! I know allot of people are going to disagree with me right now about this. But i cant help but feel a little releaved about this Castillo saga. He would have been rather expensive, and is fairly unknown, especially how he would handle the EPL. Why dont we put in an offer for Denilson, 6 million plus 30% sell-on clause... Denilson is a good shout but he'll get games at the gooners now Gilberto has gone!
nicko Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 are you trying to hint at something Mr Nixon that we might go for a cheap deal andrews rather go for the others on the list, Who else is on that list anyway nicko, anyone worthwile Well Castillo was on it and at the top, Andrews was on it and then conveniently pushed down a bit, so frankly I don't know... I do know there is a big summit of the scouts in Portugal today to get some names together. So perhaps there isn't an orderly list at the moment...
LeChuck Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 I agree he's not what he was, but even at half what he was at Pool he could way in with a few. Don't forget benni, roberts et al did not exactly score a lot last year, Cruz was the only one he consistently hit the net. I take it you mean Liverpool the first time round and not the useless version from two years ago? The problem is he's far less than half the player he was in his prime everywhere bar his waist line. Benni might not have scored much last season but he hit 20+ the season before. You have to go back to around 2001 to find the last time Fowler had a good goal-scoring season.
Parsonblue Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Well Castillo was on it and at the top, Andrews was on it and then conveniently pushed down a bit, so frankly I don't know... I do know there is a big summit of the scouts in Portugal today to get some names together. So perhaps there isn't an orderly list at the moment... Nicko, do you know if David Tuttle, the chief scout at MK Dons under Ince, has been brought into the Ewood Park set-up? I've heard that someone has been appointed to scout the opposition and wondered if this was the role that Tuttle had got?
Sparky Marky Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 ON PENNANT...Never ever been worth £6 million. Won't happen at that price. Can't agree Alan....In the closing games of last season I thought he looked sharp and was going past players with ease....I'd like to see him at Rovers.
1&OnlyRover Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 nicko, any news on rovers bid for robinson and possible names being mentioned IF robinson does not come off
tcj_jones Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 I agree on Pennant. He's a class A twit, but still a very good footballer. He looked good at the back end of last season coming back from a long term injury. I'd like to see him at the club, a very good replacement for Bentley.
nicko Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Nicko, do you know if David Tuttle, the chief scout at MK Dons under Ince, has been brought into the Ewood Park set-up? I've heard that someone has been appointed to scout the opposition and wondered if this was the role that Tuttle had got? I think that is the case - the guy Barry Whitbread seems to be heading up the scouting of players and some guy cvalled Martin Glover [?] is looking at younger players. Maybe Tuttle is a 'match assessor' but it's hard to be sure with all of the upheaval. Can't agree Alan....In the closing games of last season I thought he looked sharp and was going past players with ease....I'd like to see him at Rovers. Pennant at £3 million - maybe. Pennant at £6 million - not happening. This only goes to show that there are not many good replacements for Bentley around... nicko, any news on rovers bid for robinson and possible names being mentioned IF robinson does not come off I understand it's cash down plus installments to around £3.5 million. Spurs want more. But - as they say - the gap is closing.
Sparky Marky Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Yeah, but people talking £18 million for Bentley.....You telling me that Pennant is a sixth of the player Bentley is...? I'd say £6m for Pennant is a bargain...he's still young...given a chance to play every game we'd see an England International standard player....If we do get him for £3m, then well done Incey...
nicko Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Yeah, but people talking £18 million for Bentley.....You telling me that Pennant is a sixth of the player Bentley is...? That's about right.
philipl Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Yeah, but people talking £18 million for Bentley.....You telling me that Pennant is a sixth of the player Bentley is...? I'd say £6m for Pennant is a bargain...he's still young...given a chance to play every game we'd see an England International standard player....If we do get him for £3m, then well done Incey... Thank goodness you are never allowed anywhere near the Rovers chequebook!
CAPT KAYOS Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 No, but I am starting to expect one... As I posted even before Newcastle made a bid - Warnock has been very outspoken recently considering you barely heard anythig from him. 1st it wasd Bentley, then Friedal, now Warnock.... continuing theme or am I seeing things not there
RibbleValleyRover Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 You telling me that Pennant is a sixth of the player Bentley is...? Thats correct.
LDRover Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 As I posted even before Newcastle made a bid - Warnock has been very outspoken recently considering you barely heard anythig from him. 1st it wasd Bentley, then Friedal, now Warnock.... continuing theme or am I seeing things not there Crystal clear from where I'm sat Capt. and it's not nice viewing.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Crystal clear from where I'm sat Capt. and it's not nice viewing. I have to say its worrying, almost like a domino effect at present.....who next? Shouldn't our players be wanting to impress our new manager not leave?
philipl Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 First it was Ronaldo then it was Barry then it was Bentley. Not saying its not going to happen but this window seems a bit different to previous ones. For one thing so far as Rovers are concerned, it is now GBP90m businesses (Spuds, Newcastle) trying to beat up on a highly profitable GBP60m business (Rovers) whereas in previous seasons it was a GBP70m business beating up on a loss-making GBP40m business. Everybody; Barcodes, Spuds, agents, players; knows Rovers can say yahboosucks this window.
