donis1410 Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 One swallow doesn't make a summer. I know that might sound harsh, but I do feel some fans get ahead of themselves, particularly in the euphoria of Sunday's result. Yes, Robinson played very well, but he has to show this consistently to prove he's more than an average keeper. I am not getting ahead of myself, I think the result of Sunday could have been a lot different as we didn't really threaten them enough in attack. I felt that Robbo did have a good game, showing what he can do with confidence. He hasn't been like that all season but he hasn't been outstandingly poor either, I just think that as his confidence grows so will his performance. I also think we are too slow at the back

American Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 No Iceman, Robbo's a long way short of Friedel at his best. I honestly can't remember Brad making more than one or two errors in a season at the most. He was the most consistent keeper I have ever seen in a rovers shirt. That's why he is in BRFCS.COM best ever team. - Nor was he poor at crosses, that's a myth. Can't remember him dropping one cross in his career here. He stayed on his line a lot, but that was what he was asked to do. 3 seasons ago (I believe) people were calling for him to be dropped after he let in a string of weak free kicks at the beginning of the season. Is long-term memory the first thing to go with age?

Is long-term memory the first thing to go with age? No, it's when you go to the fridge for the milk, and pour cold water into your tea from the water jug instead, like I did an hour ago.
thenodrog Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 3 seasons ago (I believe) .................... ............... Is long-term memory the first thing to go with age? Obviously getting on a bit youself eh American? Anyway I rem that thread, in fact I brought it to the fore once or twice after continuing Brad heroics.
roversmum Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 No, it's when you go to the fridge for the milk, and pour cold water into your tea from the water jug instead, like I did an hour ago. Nothing to worry about, Den, just a senior moment...
CrazyIvan Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 No, it's when you go to the fridge for the milk, and pour cold water into your tea from the water jug instead, like I did an hour ago. Nah, that's just your eyes. Buy yourself some new glasses... Maybe the Blue and White tint has worn off too much

I have a feeling if Robbo can keep his confidence he will become just as important as Brad was!! You could see on Sunday how much he enjoyed the game!

Friedel has arguably been the best Premier League keeper since Schmeichel.
Bennisfromheaven Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Best not set expectations too high. Friedel has arguably been the best Premier League keeper since Schmeichel. True Story!! But who is to say Robbo cant become the best keeper since Brad!?! We have always been blessed with good keepers at this club, i dont see why that would not continue!!
Hasta Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 True Story!! But who is to say Robbo cant become the best keeper since Brad!?! We have always been blessed with good keepers at this club, i dont see why that would not continue!! Despite being still sceptical about him I agree. I believe that Paul Robinson is indeed the best keeper since Brad Friedel.
Iceman Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Brad made mistakes, but all goalkeepers tend to make mistakes!cech is making mistakes as is Reina. If you a goalkeeper you would know that there is more pressure on a goalkeeper, than any out field player. People will forget quickly about a misplaced pass by a midfielder( except us Rovers fans) or a glaring miss by strikers(except us Rovers fans), but if a keeper makes a mistake it never forgotten. We goalkeepers are always made the scapegoat if a team loses. Its tough being a keeper, but Robbo has to remain positive and keep his confidence up.
Billy Castell Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 Schmeichel was nevefr as good for Denmark as he was for Man Utd.
wandel77 Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 Schmeichel was nevefr as good for Denmark as he was for Man Utd. Hmmmm Did you see the 1992 Euro finale ?? I bet Schmeichel have never played a better match than that one !
67splitscreen Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 From the LET today, Robbo. "I’ve worked with a lot of managers to be honest. I had a lot of managers at Leeds, at Tottenham and obviously at international level. “But I think he is the most approachable manager I’ve ever worked with. He’s very knowledgeable and I think he’s one of the most honest I’ve worked with. “He will tell you why he wants you to do things, why you are doing things and why you’re not. “Confidence is a massive thing for any footballer and for any team as well. “The manager and the coach give me great confidence and it’s just a nice place for me to be at the moment. “I’m in a happy place.” Sounds at least Robbo is Happy with all things Ewood. All so mentions how Mimms is working well with him.
Grabbi Graeme Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Ben Foster ruled out of the forthcoming Internationals, so maybe Robbo will get a place in the England squad
LeChuck Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 I sincerely hope he doesn't. Not that I don't think he's good enough, because his form is as good as any English goalkeeper at the moment, but his confidence will still be fragile. You can see it's coming back to him and the Robbo of old is slowly emerging, but if he did make a mistake in an England shirt it would be a major setback. I think being away from the limelight has been key to getting his confidence back, I wouldn't want anything to damage that at the moment.
Hughesy Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Ben Foster ruled out of the forthcoming Internationals, so maybe Robbo will get a place in the England squad That means Kuczsack or whatever is almost a certain starter for United at Hull. Ooooooh goody! Glad Foster cant play that one.

I'd hoped he'd have regained that confidence by now but I'd rather wait another, say, 6 months.
Stuart Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 That means Kuczsack or whatever is almost a certain starter for United at Hull. Ooooooh goody! Glad Foster cant play that one. We're going to be disappointed on Sunday aren't we. We'll have just watched Tugay be subbed on 89 to a standing ovation then we'll find out that the geordies have escaped. Just imagine though if the final scores roll in and: Hull 1 - 0 United Villa 2 - 1 Newcastle Maybe, just maybe... Oh, and Robbo will make some saves and stuff
DanLad Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Rovers players being called up for England has rarely turned out well for Rovers, certainly over the last few years, anyway.
Grabbi Graeme Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Rovers players being called up for England has rarely turned out well for Rovers, certainly over the last few years, anyway. In the case of Jansen it was not being called up that didn't turn out well for us.
Hughesy Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Foster and now James both out. That leaves Robbo, Carson, Hart, Kirkland & Green. He should be given his chance to be fair.
Eddie Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Of that lot he should be first choice (although I think that should be true even if James and Foster had been fit). He's been in very good form for the past few months and deserves to be recalled. Foster is the only one from that group who I might switch with Robinson, but despite some impressive performance out on loan and when he's had his chances at United, he remains relatively unproven and inexperienced.
Majiball Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 TBH its not a bad thing he hasn't been called up. He's raised his form and himself and that should stay with him through the summer and pre-season. This way he avoids any potential hick-ups. It would be awesome for him to go and have a great game for england but caution is the better option at present to maintain his form and mindset. If he believes he should be in there, then that percieved injustice will only motivate him more.
