I agree.

Even though he was a great player for us under Mark Hughes and I think that Sam Allardyce style didnt do him any favours other than him beeing the deadball specialist. I've seen a lot of him on the national team and his strengths is coming up with the odd goal and deliver some great passes behind the oppositions back four ie his pass to Kalinic against WBA.

I think that his confidence was eroded during the SA days. There is so much more to MGP's game than a long throw. He has scored some screamers for Rovers and has

performed well defensively when called on to do so.

His tackling is chronic and he doesnt seem to get anywhere near the same goal scoring opportunities, but he can pull out a killer ball or a deadly corner at any moment, and I would keep him for his strengths rather than get rid of him for his weaknesses.

Ditch the sentiment folks, take away the deadball stuff and the cheerleading and what have you got - Nothing. The guy can't play at this level and he'd struggle even more at the next level down. That's it. End of. We can no longer afford to throw £40 K a week on a non player.

I still want him in the squad.

Seems a good guy to have around. A true Rover

Listen , I'm a great guy to have around and I'm a true Rover ( since 1961 ). I'll sit on the bench for £ 1,000 a week ! Any lower offers ?

PS, for the ones who aren't good at sums £ 40,000 a week equals £ 2 million a year, or so I'm reliably informed.

I think it's more of a case of we don't have to afford that any more (since we have more money now than we did when he was offered that contract - when he was still technically a nothing player, but part of the first team). We now have the funds to pay a player that amount and (I'd imagine) also the transfer fee to acquire him. The reason Pedo gets so much is because he has seen wage increases. If he signed today he wouldn't be on that.

I like him, but if we are truly going to see a newer Rovers (not just in terms of age), then he is the kind of deadwood that might need to go to make it happen effectively. I do like him though and wish him all the best. Also, scored against Burnley, of course.

Edit: This is a hypothetical post, in the sense that it is presuming he can only offer us what he has offered us the last couple of seasons, and Kean doesn't find another role for him where he is as more use, because although he has chipped in with assists I feel Olsson can currently offer at least the same amount when he plays on the left wing, for far cheaper, and with a greater potential of improvement.

No thanks I'll keep the sentiment, when I lose all affection for Rovers and players loyal to the club and become a complete non-fan then I'll ditch the sentiment. He can't play in the Championship? My god, yeah ok you've convinced me with saying that and "Thats it. End of." I hope you put as much effort into supporting the players you like as you do into instructing others to dislike the players you don't.

Its hard for Pedersen, back in hughes reign, you had Warnock steaming down the left supporting Ped's giving Pedersen more options, Givet does not have the athletisism to do that, under Sam he was key for the style of play we played with set pieces, long throws. But Kean wants to introduce more passing and moving based on pace and athletisism. look at the players favoured, Olsson, P.Jones, Holiett, Roberts, N'Zonzi, J.Jones, Emerton. All these guys can get around the pitch and are all relativly quick. Guys, such as Pedersen, Dunn, Diouf, Grella, Kalinic lack those strong qualites.

He is useful, his delivery on in driect free kicks and corners is top notch, he direct free kicks have been shocking in recent years but he is a useful team and squad player. im sure there would be a number of clubs who would happily take pedersen to add competition. suprises me that alot of fans from other clubs still think Pedersen is the same player he was back in 2005-2008. still decent player to have. NO DEAL!

Pfft. Like last season, you mean? When he wouldn't cost a dime?

Guarantee that if you asked, Alan Pardew, Tony Pulis, Mick McCarthy, Steve Bruce, Roberto Martinez would they have Morten Gamst Pedersen in thier squad, every single one of them would have him.

How do you know that those clubs weren't in for him in last season or atleast showed an interest, what, because the sunday newspapers diden't have the headline NEWCASTLE AND STOKE CHASE PEDERSEN,. Alot of teams dont move for out of contract players until the season is over, name me at least 3 prem teams who have already confirmed an out of contract player will be playing in thier colours for next season...

I was shocked initially when he was offered a new contract with us, considering how truly awful he had been for a couple of seasons. But finances were tight and the type of game plan that Sam wanted to employ rotated solely around set pieces. These factors helped to keep him in the team. We've started to go in a different direction with the likes of Olsson, Hoilett and Jermaine Jones playing in the positions he could play. There are a number of midfielders I'd happily get rid of like Grella, Andrews, Goulon and even Dunn. I wouldn't be too bothered either way if we kept him or sold him. If he stays, we have a decent squad player, who has plenty of experience and can do a job in a few different positions. If we sell him, we could get a few quid for him which is always useful. We need to have a clear out of the deadwood and if we do, these players will need to be replaced, as we would be leaving ourselves short in this area of the team if we don't.

The burden of proof's with you, my friend. I only recall hearing Olympiakos & Celtic after Pedersen. If you think a host of PL clubs were too, then feel free to back it up.

I'm sure a few PL clubs would take a look at him, but none of them would pay what we're paying in wages. He's a spent force.

Good to see Pedersen getting into shape and keeping his fitness up. I would played him alot more last season

If he'd played more I think we'd be looking forward to a next season in the Championship - was a passenger in some games and in a relegation battle you can't afford players who aren't fully up for it. Thankfully Kean saw this and left him out. Great words on his blog - no doubt his heart's in the right place but he needs to show the same commitment and effort on the pitch IMO. Hopefully he'll come back next season and be worthy of a place, but we've been saying this for 4 years and only very infrequently has he looked a shadow of the player who scored 2 at Old Trafford.

Unfortunately for Morten he has provoked an overly harsh and unhelpful reaction from a section of fans ever since his first dip in form. For a number of years it was reserved only for him, but now he shares the privilege with Andrews.

He is clearly a confidence player so for the ewood boo-boys to continue giving him special treatment is counter-productive at best, and just plain bullying at worst.

Even when he's shown signs of a resurgence the boo-boys make sure it never materialises (presumably to enforce their pre-determined opinion of him)

I couldn't agree more. I'd like him to prove us all wrong but he's had a good while to do this and nothing has happened. He was left out at the end of last season because he deserved to be left out. Even in a poor side there were at least 11 players better than he was. He seems to be a very nice , amiable guy but in professional sport most nice guys come second. I honestly don't think he's got what it takes to play at top level and I'm not sure he ever had. Apart from the odd flashy goal and a lot of ineffective running around what is there to his game ? When does he dominate the game like a centre mid should ?

Henwah - unfortunately for Morten, he's been garbage for the better part of 5 seasons.

I presume youre not a Rovers fan then??!! This message board is getting worse by the day. What an informed post!!

Righto.

My mistake, he has in fact been an outstanding talent whose form has not altered from the volley-scoring, old trafford-silencing beast of 5-6yrs ago. As evidenced by him keeping young Martin Olsson out of the team and the slew of offers he received whilst out of contract. It certainly hasn't all gone wrong for him ever since he missed an easy header in the cup semi-final.

MGP has been loyal to the club. He deserves respect.

The question is whether he still should be a starter. Like managers, that is a question of how well he performs.

I hope he spends his last few years here racking up goals and putting in tackles. We'll see.

MGP is no more loyal than the man on the moon, not so long ago he was putting out the feelers for clubs to move to, he certainly doesnt deserve a starting place. That however is up to Kean, Rovers need to lose the dead wood in the team and bring in players capable of challenging for a first team place

Anyone else think Pedersen's time at the club might be coming to an end?

I really don't see where he fits in with our new system... we're not as reliant on set-pieces as we have been in the past and I don't think Morten would be able to keep up with the pace Kean seems to want from our attacking players. With Olsson, Junior, Vukcevic, Formica, N'Zonzi, Dunn, Petrovic, Lowe and Rochina all fighting for places across the midfield I find it hard to see Morten getting much game time.

Obviously I could be wrong and after his injury he may go straight back into the side, but Kean didn't pick him much towards the back end of last season and although he's fairly good at tracking back to help out the full-back that isn't an element of the game Kean is emphasising at the moment (rightly or wrongly).

Can see Peds being sold in Jan, if anyone's willing to buy him...
