deryck guyler's spoon Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Trappatoni - played a centre midfield of Keith Andrews and Glenn Whelan - should we sign him too? The Stoke lad? I wouldn't mind that at all.

Hughesy Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 How much did we sell Shefki Kuqi for again?? This could beat that one ha ha!
roversfan1 Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 The stick Andrews has had, imo, has been way OTT. He wont ever be forgiven by some for - a) Being an Ince signing b ) Being signed from MK Dons. My reasons for not wanting him at Ewood are nothing to do with the above but everything to do with the fact he wasnt/isnt good enough! Anything £2m+ is good value and we should take it.
AggyBlue Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Incidentally, weren't we trying to sign Kevin Davies back, or did I dream that? That's strange. I had the same nightmare
RibbleValleyRover Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Looking like an approach has been knocked back, but no bid: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/g...ers/8141642.stm
67splitscreen Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 What has happened to bringing in the replacement before selling your own player. I seem to remember a certain manager getting slated for adopting this approach recently.
Jonnolad Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 For some reason I thought we paid about half a million less than that. I still don't think anyone would pay £4m for him though. We paid £750k + £250k add-ons over 3 years: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ers/7586080.stm He wasn't worth that though was he? Surely we should be snapping anyone's hand off who are willing to give us our money back. Looking like an approach has been knocked back, but no bid: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/g...ers/8141642.stm From that site: "Blackburn officials have told Fulham that Republic of Ireland international Keith Andrews is not for sale" This is getting more and more and more confusing. Why would Sam possibly not want to sell him, at the very least just to get our money back?
RibbleValleyRover Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 SSN has just claimed the bid was in excess of £2 million.
budha Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Why would Sam possibly not want to sell him, at the very least just to get our money back? Case of "never accept the first bid - if they're serious enough to bid once, they'll bid again" -tactics?
Esben_DK Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Funny how you're all quick to write off MGP and Andrews, almost paying people to take them - the two only midfielders we got available who didnt spend half of last season in the injury room...
Torgeir Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Case of "never accept the first bid - if they're serious enough to bid once, they'll bid again" -tactics? Most likely. According to Nicko (aka the Last Guru) there's usually been a feeling out process before any formal bid is lodged. Second or third bid will be accepted, I can't see why not - he won't be as difficult to replace as some of our other outgoings anyway

What does have to do with anything? The only two who require no force to shove off the ball, and are so slow they don't even have hamstrings. Is it any wonder?

I'd imagine that Andrews would be keen on the move and let both parties know it.
Jonnolad Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 SSN has just claimed the bid was in excess of £2 million. 2 million?? For Keith Andrews? Keith? Andrews? 2 million? I don't believe it. Surely we should have snapped their hands off for that. Forget that too'ing and fro'ing business, they might never come back. This is just getting really really strange.
Driftpeasant Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 The young American striker Charlie Davies is about to sign for Sochaux...he might have been worth a look as a strike option. Think he will improve. Work permit issues. Davies hasn't started that much for the USMNT. /broken record But Altidore has! (and yeah, I know, he's probably too expensive)

RibbleValleyRover Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Looks like Berg is having a medical at Hamburg: http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/bundesl...artikel/511214/
andyroversmad Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 If we sign this Jones fella from Sunderland i might kill myself. 8 or 9 million would be absolutley wasted on him. If anything we need to go full out for Darren Bent, at least he can put the ball in the net. IF Sam insists on a big man, then just stick Vieri and Di Santo up there, and spend the 13million pound budget on 2 midfielders please! Because Currentley, none of our midfilders can score goals, SO WHATS THE POINT IN HAVING A BIG TARGET MAN!! Either splash the cash on a goal machine, or improve the midfield! Please! Good post Paulo.
Amo Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 What has happened to bringing in the replacement before selling your own player. I seem to remember a certain manager getting slated for adopting this approach recently. Big Sam has already taken care of that:
Miker Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Say what you will about Andrews, but he got the club out of big trouble by scoring some goals in his first season in the premier league, many of them match-winning goals at that. I don't think he's the best player in the squad or even close enough to be in the top 11, but he's a player that has the drive and desire to push on and try and succeed in "the best division in the world". Fact is, he has been consistent all season, he has proven his fitness and physical attributes to be good enough for the Premier League (or at the very least passable) and besides his goals, he was very solid defensively on many occasions and you can say he made mistakes etc. etc. but everyone in the team did last season, so it's not much of an argument. Who would you replace Andrews with for 2 million? No one that has the same drive and desire to succeed I can tell you that much...
T4E Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Say what you will about Andrews, but he got the club out of big trouble by scoring some goals in his first season in the premier league, many of them match-winning goals at that. "Many" being one?
LeChuck Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Who would you replace Andrews with for 2 million? No one that has the same drive and desire to succeed I can tell you that much... Alan Judge? Very hard working player. The step up from the Championship is nothing like the step up from League Two so we can't really use that as an excuse for not playing him.
