Stuart Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Not much to explain we picked up injuries and had to use the subs eariler than we would have liked and had a striker who could hardly run meaning those around him had to do more. That's not really the answer though, Tom. If players can't last 90 minutes, they really ought not to be playing. Barring injuries, all substitutions should be tactical. We seem to allow certain players to have 60 minute matches - reducing the ability to change things around when we need to react to the oppostion. (Sometimes known as "Plan B"). The only excuse I can come up with for this situation is that because our squad was allowed to rot under the latter years of The Trust, we are now playing catch up. Unfortunately, the players we have scouted and brought in aren't yet ready for the rigours of the PL. Hopefully they will come good but once again we have gambled. I have to say though that Vukcevic looked very promising when he came on. Jeez, I should be doing Kean's PR.
John Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Wolves midfielder Karl Henry has labelled Joey Barton "embarrassing" in his riposte to the QPR captain's blast over the weekend.
koi Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Interesting that the players seemed fine against Arsenal and they did plenty of running. Maybe someone like Maji can explain this? Could be something as simple as getting the diet wrong before the game.
BuckyRover Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Not PL but I couldn't find the other thread. Fabregas already has more assists in La Liga than Iniesta managed in the whole of last season.
Backroom Tom Posted September 21, 2011 Backroom Posted September 21, 2011 My stats better: Owen Hargreaves made 54 passes v Birmingham, 8 more than he totalled in the PL during his final 3 seasons at Man Utd.

If Hargreaves stays fit City will have picked themselves up an absolute bargain. Hargreaves is still a top class player. Unfortunately there isn't a font size big enough to emphasise 'if he stays fit'. Time will tell, City certainly have a squad big enough to rotate Hargreaves in when and where he's needed.
thenodrog Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Not going to do his confidence much good, even Roberts would of scored that Are you sure? I rem him missing an even easier one at sunderland.
Miker Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Not PL but I couldn't find the other thread. Fabregas already has more assists in La Liga than Iniesta managed in the whole of last season. Fab's passing is on another level. Arsenal will never adequately replace him. How good of a manager is Moyes btw? They were virtually in crisis mode, but are still getting results as ever under him.
CheeseOnToast Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Fab's passing is on another level. Arsenal will never adequately replace him. How good of a manager is Moyes btw? They were virtually in crisis mode, but are still getting results as ever under him. In my opinion, Moyes is the perfect manager for Everton. Moyes is uncanny at finding young talent for virtually no money (as Kenwright is skint). Take Apostolos Vellios, for example... Signed at eighteen from a Greek side for two pence and he's got a premier league goal in well less than 90 minutes of play. Recent examples of first team 'capped' young players of note brought in on the cheap include Seamus Coleman, Ross Barkley, Jack Rodwell, Magaye Gueye, Apostolos Vellios, and (maybe) Denis Stracqualursi and Royston Drenthe. Not to mention his earlier finds and products like Tim Cahill and many others (dare I say Tony Hibbert?) from years back. For reference, a very possible Everton first team (Howard, Hibbert, Jagielka, Distin, Baines, Coleman, Osman, Barkley, Gueye, Cahill, Vellios) cost about the same as Andy Carroll. Your choice, like. His tactics can be, at times, infuriating as he's famous for saving all of his subs for the eightieth minute and playing in a 4/5.5/.5 formation, but Everton would be relegation worthy (not prospective Europa contenders) without him. All said, I don't see Moyes as being successful with money. His last 'big' signings were Diniyar Bilyaletdinov and Johnny Heitinga, who both struggle for a place in the first team. I don't know. Something just tells me that he wouldn't work well at Arsenal, City, Man United or Chelsea (or god forbid Liverpool).

Something just tells me that he wouldn't work well at Arsenal, City, Man United or Chelsea (or god forbid Liverpool). He got it right with Fellaini though. Lescott and Jagielka weren't much cheaper than Heitinga but definitely successes. Actually the list of players that were average when he bought them and turned into top Premier League players is very impressive; Lescott, Jagielka, Baines, Arteta, Pienaar, Cahill. Not dissimilar to Sparky really. He seems to have a rare knack of getting regular PL quality performances out of average players too, the likes of Hibbert, Osman, Coleman, Anichebe etc. have questionable ability but have been stalwarts of the side for a long time. He definitely deserves a crack at one of the top jobs. He's got all the traits to be a perfect Alex Ferguson successor, whether he's had success at high enough level to get that sort of job is debatable though.

I was going to post nearly exactly the same as what you wrote here earlier. Moyes sets very high standards and is happy to blast his players if necessary – he absolutely hates losing and also understands the importance of having a top class backroom team.
Amo Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 I've often said Moyes is the best manager (pound-for-pound) in the PL. And I stand by that.
67splitscreen Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Stoke, just where do they get their financiers from here

Rovermatt Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 I caught the half time 'analysis' on ESPN. Robbie Savage's expert opinion was that you just can't stop Nani (and by extension United) because he's too good. He's such an arse-licking prat. Once a Mould Trafford reject, always a Mould Trafford reject.

Backroom Tom Posted September 26, 2011 Backroom Posted September 26, 2011 Couldn't find the World Football thread for looking. Shame the lad who scored that backheel penalty has died in a car accident http://www.thenational.ae/news/uae-news/theyab-awana-dies-in-car-accident-near-abu-dhabi
Stuart Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Bad sportsmanship that. He'd have got some stick in this country. Poor keeper didn't know what to do. Amazing story though.
Backroom Tom Posted September 26, 2011 Backroom Posted September 26, 2011 Norwich winning isn't good for us. Tenner says Sparky is managing Sunderland soon, their fans are starting to bay for Bruces blood
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Norwich will rip us a new one very soon.
Backroom DE. Posted September 26, 2011 Backroom Posted September 26, 2011 A month ago I would have believed we could take points off Norwich & QPR away. Not anymore - I'd gratefully take a draw from either.
