[Archived] Who's The Best Player We've Ever Had On Loan?

Was Ardiles on Loan? What a player he was in his prime and I never thought I would see him in a Rovers shirt.

I think we signed Ardiles on a short term deal just before transfer deadline day until the end of the season. I am not sure but I think that deal and the Archibald loan were financed by Jack.

Ardiles got injured on his debut ( I think)at Plymouth-kicked off the park by Nicky Marker, no less. I remember because it was my birthday. A happy day, when I realised we were not going up...again!

I think Ardiles ended up being injured for most of his time here, as our promotion bid crumbled.

Best loan signing for me would be Eyal B...

David Wagstaffe from Wolves ....

Eventually signed permanently and avoided relegation !

Didn't know we had him on loan first. What a great player.

Mark Grew in the late 80s was a quality loan keeper.

However, as stated in the OP, Berkovic was a class act and the signing that ensured we were promoted in 2001.

Well said. Brings back happy memories.

Berkovic was brilliant in the run in, especially at Loftus Rd and Grimsby.

Jim Beglin played in the same side as Grew, I seem to remember.

Was Jason Beckford a loan player.?

Marker was hard as nails. I remember watching the reserves v man utd at Gigg lane, and he snapped Ben Thornley in half.

Ended his career.

Butt was brilliant that night. I digress.

Nobody has mentioned Yordi yet. Or Richard Witschge.. spelling.

I don't remember Beglin being much good but he was basically playing on one leg after recovering from a bad break I think. Not sure he was on loan or a free agent ?

I recall being chuffed when they signed that Jason Beckford because he was a player under 30 and from Man City which was rare for us to sign around then but I seem to remember he was useless and looked for all the world like he didn't want to be here. I think it was a very short loan but he was in a very poor side.

That period is the worst I've ever seen Rovers although It probably seemed worse after the previous few years but they were struggling. Brought about by natural causes though not inflicted by cowboys and Indians and I doubt many got rich off it back then.

Hail Jack !

Berkovic was definately up there, for me. I remember being mystified and a little @#/? off that we didn't keep him and ended up with some Rangers reject instead

Kevin Arnott was a good un. According to Wiki he played 29 games for us over 2 years from 81 to 83. My recollection was that they were all in 2 spells on loan from Sunderland. Was excellent in his first stint and not quite as good in his second. Scored a cracker at Bolton in a big Christmas derby I think, long time ago so I'm probably mistaken.

He looked a class above us, was it not Sheffield United he came from?

No mention of Danny Graham, Markus Babbel or Alex Baptiste? Zurab K did well on loan for us too.

I don't remember whether Babbel did well or not, but I do remember he wasn't too complimentary about Blackburn and the surrounding areas. He was never going to work out.

Didn't Babel say that you're allowed to make more mistakes playing for a club like Rovers over Liverpool?

Don't remember that, he did ok from what I remember scored 3 or 4 goals, and was pretty solid if not brilliant. He was recovering from a disease I think, so wasnt fit enough to play all the time.

alongwith Steve Livingstone and Tony Dobson.............

I thought we bought those 2 but loaned Mimms.

Regardless those 3 kept us in the league and the rest is history that those crooked b astards can never take away.

2 loan spells in consecutive seasons - first Sunderland then Sheffield Utd.

They were definitely bought. Mimms was on loan at first then we made it permanent.

They were all a class above what was there at the time. Dobson looked like Bobby Moore. Livingston averaged a goal a game during the run in. He scored a belter against Oldham at Ewood. They were going up as champs.

How times change.

I'm pretty certain you're confusing him with Henchoz.

He was booed by the Blackburn end, an early Kidd match, I think.

Tony Watt? I quite liked him :)

Michael Kean. Good loan player for us you must admit.

Now playing for "them" and called up for England.

Is that the 90-91 season? Didn't we finish 19th or something? Remember getting thumped by Notts County away ??
