I am hoping Hearts can finally do it.  1985 the last time a team that wasn't Celtic or Ranger won it. The old firm have won 85% of all league titles in 135 years. Why anyone watches it I have no idea.... But my cousins are from Edinburgh and big Hearts supporters so got my fingers crossed for them!

Remember Hearts blowing it in spectacular style a few years ago!

Just realised longer ago than I thought as it was 1986. Brilliant effort considering that it was the peak time for Aberdeen and Dundee Utd.

Why they appointed him in the first place is beyond incompetence, but it was during the takeover.

Now go out and get Gerrard back, give him full control and a budget to work with. If they do that they’ll win the league.

rangers have actually signed a few decent players this summer,it`s martins team shape thats created all the problems,the players hav`nt got a clue what they are supposed to be doing

Appointing Gerrard will be hard given the tax problems he will have if he returns to the UK this tax year given the amount of money he is earning in the middle east

Over the next month or so clubs will start potting managers with regularity as those in relegation form will want out quickly. Any club looking at a new manager should read a few pages on here and steer well clear of Martin. Fans don't get everything right, those in football say never, but on the ability of Russell Martin we were bang on. He's a bad manager who can seemingly talk his way into jobs. His record is not good, and his style is way too complicated and open to work effectively.

Why Rangers thought he'd be the man who can overturn Celtic is baffling.

Have to admit I didn't expect it to go quite that wrong for Martin at Rangers. His final season at Southampton aside, he's always been more of a deeply average manager than an outright bad one. It was obvious he was going to sink when he criticised the players after league game number one, though. No chance of it ending in anything other than tears after that. 

As an aside, if we'd treated Kean how Rangers fans treated Martin, there would have been media campaigns to have the club dissolved and the fans jailed. Guess Russell needs more friends in high places.

Reading the BBC article on it, it was Ancelotti Jr’s job until Martin ‘knocked it out of the park’ on interview.

So, there will be plenty of mug owners yet that fall for his gift of the gab…

Appointed Martin was the wrong one. Maybe appointing someone like Dyche or Rohl might have better move.

Surely what they need is a competent manager. Not some bloke who wouldnt get a sniff without having been a good player there based on his managerial CV, who had a fairly underwhelming spell there last season, purely to try and get fans on side. (Which im not convinced it even would).

If your criteria is correct then maybe Gazza will apply.

I would have been tempted to give it Barry Ferguson last summer. Rangers problems are long standing there. 

Maybe Dyche would be good appointment last summer but not sure he be interested right now..

Its a very messy situation there looking from the outside

Why? His interim period wasnt particularly successsful and his CV beforehand is very non descript.

Dont get the logic behind trying to fix things with a "club legend."

Ally McCoist is a Rangers legend and he was utterly tepid in the dugout there.
