Yeah I remember seeing him playing for Bournemouth on the left wing with Harry Redknapp on the right wing. He was a seriously rapid winger. He died very young. The rumour was he was doing a bit of horizontal jogging at the time. Quote
Gav Posted Monday at 18:58 Posted Monday at 18:58 Jack leading out the team at Wembley for the Charity Shield, brilliant stuff. *Sounds not great. 5 Quote

Claytons Left Boot Posted Tuesday at 19:40 Posted Tuesday at 19:40 Attendances in the mid 1980s were dire and weren’t much better in the late 70s, especially in the old First Division..Three weeks after the Grimsby game, I was a married man..😳 Quote

Also it was the Thatcher era with mass unemployment, the miners strike, etc. so money was tight for many people. Many of us who were around at the time have fond memories of the football back then and the feeling of connection with the club, owners and players. But without the kick up the arse the game received with the start of the Premier League - and I know there are lots of things wrong with it - who knows what would have happened. 1 Quote

Good points. The toilets on the Riverside were delightful. A great view of the stars on a clear night but sploshing through the rain and whatever else (!) in the dark otherwise 😬 I was lucky (I think) to have a dad who took me to games despite the ever present threat of trouble but I can imagine a lot of people took the alternative view. Once or twice we had to make a hasty retreat!! 1 Quote

Once or twice we had to make a hasty retreat!! the toilets at the side of the blackburn end were exactly the same, hence you had everyone p*****g against the back wall, coupled with the smell of urine, strange looking tea/coffee,pies that hazarded food poisoning and the threat of getting your head kicked in,it`s no surprise that crowds were bad despite all that ,i found the blackburn end magical,i was devasted when they bulldozed it 2 Quote
