Mowbray on No Tippy Tappy. Lots of Rovers covered - budgets, Suhail, transfers... Some won't like what they hear. He seems a principled man in an unprincipled industry.

Excellent news. The usual suspects will be like blood to a hound with this.

He didnt ask for more money will be turned into him actively not wanting to get promoted, even though all logic suggests that it was in his best interests to do it. And more blame can be taken away from the real reason that we have never really come close to promotion.

At the end of the day he's too honest and stuck in his ways for his own good, hard to not respect him but it's also frustrating beyond the pale at times.

We are used to so much bullshit at this club and football in general it's often hard to fathom the validity of honesty when it makes an appearance.

Mowbray blew some decent wage budgets here and was no doubt happy with the plod but his bosses were the ones who were responsible for that it's ultimately their lack of vision and ambition that creates the situation.

Sam seems like he can't believe it that Tony didn't ask for more money to push for promotion. I think I once heard how, when he wanted Salgado, it meant we needed to finish a couple of positions higher to hit the budget target. He went ahead with the signing - more cut throat than Tony.

Mowbray suggested that being honest and principled was the reason he spent most of his time managing in the second tier. I would say it was more a lack of a winning mentality.

Nothing he hasnt freely admitted himself in the past.

Man of principle?  Do me a favour - Which manager doesn't try his utmost for the Club he's working for? (Apart from him)

Too many people fooled by the old "Jumpers for goalposts, lemon drizzle cake" routine.

Loved that episode with Mowbray.  A top class guy who, for me, did a fantastic job for this club at a time when we were in a mess.  His love of football is there for all to see and you can see why he is so loved by players and fans alike.  A principled man in an industry where principles are often cast aside all too often.

I could listen to him all day, talking about football...but I did get a belly-full of "Rovers fans, just want to see Shearer and Sutton banging in the goals again"...The old "entitled" card?

I think we just wanted a normal club again...

Did he say that he wasnt doing his utmost for the club he was working for?

Like with the theory that he actively didnt want promotion, which makes no sense. Your imagination runs wild when Mowbray is involved.

Clearly he didn't as he didn't press the owners for investment when promotion was a possibility.

There's no other way you can sugar coat that. Any other manager would want the best squad or X1 humanly possible at his disposal.

It was his job to win football matches not manage the finances and finish 15th every other season.

Massively overstayed his welcome, especially when it was clear he had zero ambition.

Brought us some stability then should have been replaced.

Yes - with the benefit of hindsight immediately after the promotion but even without hindsight definitely after the first season back in the Championship. 

Several completely wasted years followed.

He shouldnt need to "press the owners." 

But they probably wouldnt have given him more money anyway. They havent in any of the Januarys since. Which i am sure you will pin on Mowbray too.

It makes absolutely no sense for him not to want promotion. I have no doubt that he gave his absolute utmost to get results with the players he had. He just came up short.

His quote in the LT at the time was that he had to "calm the owners down".

I havent had time to watch this latest podcast yet but at the time he gave the impression he actively discouraged them from investing further.

I wonder why?

At the time there were rumours that there was a midfielder lined up to join us, but he was discouraged because Mowbray said he'd have to wait in line behind Evans and Smallwood and learn how they played etc.

There were also rumours that that midfielders name was John Mcginn. How ridiculous does that sound now? But that's how ridiculous things were under Mowbray, ditto him giving Ben Gladwin a new deal purely so he could recuperate from injury, ditto him stockpiling players to the extent he had 14 midfielders to choose from at one point.

You could go on and on.
