That's his style of play. He is so calm etc, 99% of the time it is fine however it stands out if something goes wrong.

His style of play is standing on the edge of the area watching his man run past him?

He's excellent on the ball and reads the game so well that he's actually a darn good defensive player too. This seemed to be something else - like his head just wasn't in the game at all.

Watched Wharton last night.  If Johnson was a decent player he'd have had two assists.  Wharton ran the show against villa

He was excellent especially against Tielmans who is no mug. Controlled it from start to finish.

There was one reverse pass he played first time around the 60th minute that was incredible, it was almost too good as the forward made a total dogs dinner of it as they were so surprised it came to them. Even at that level Whartons vision catches teammates out

It’s his ability to play deadly accurate first time passes that sets him out in a world of two touch players.

Not sure if it is widely known, but if anyone is interested, Macclesfield play Palace tomorrow lunchtime, live on BBC1, which may feature Adam Wharton against James Edmondson, who is on loan at Macclesfield from Rovers

I'd be surprised if they didn't rest Wharton against the mighty Macclesfield.

I did say "may feature"

But they are apparently starting Guehi, so I suppose its possible Wharton plays

I wasn't correcting you, just stating it seems very unlikely he will actually be playing. Has Guehi had injury problems? The reason I'd be surprised if Wharton plays isn't because he is a key player for them, but because he will likely be identified as being in dire need of a rest.

Apparently not, played every minute barring 1 game

They rested him in a key conference league game.  I'm pretty certain they'll rest him for Macclesfield

Wharton has been really poor. I don't think it's a good idea to play big players like ghuei or Wharton against lower league teams as they are more physical.  An injury is bound to happen

he could be tired after lots of games over christmas though i suspect none of the palace team fancies this

How's Edmondson playing

excellent,he`s never given the palace midfield a second on the ball, adam is having an absolute mare, macc are absolutely dominating palace effort wise,it would`nt surprise me if they got a 3rd goal

Very solid performance from Edmondson, but as he's playing in a fairly defensive role he's not doing anything flashy or eye catching. Working very hard and disrupting a premier league attack. Playing a bit of a Tronstad-esq role.

That said, couple of wayward passes and a (very) optimistic free kick.

Wharton almost scores, good save from the keeper.

Wharton was outstanding against villa.  He's been horrendous today

Not to excuse him, he has not played well today, but he does tend to look better when he is playing with better players (who make better runs, and can anticipate, receive & control his passes)

I think he needs to leave Palace in the summer.  He's gone as far as he can playing alongside mediocre to decent players.  If he wants to take that next step he needs to play alongside better players.  Whether that's in England at a city or Liverpool or abroad with real madrid
