Unfortunately the "turn the taps off" protest wasn't in flow yesterday.

Blackburn End concourse was busy at half time yesterday with pints and food on show all over.

Also the boycott suggestion, I asked a couple of folk around me what they thought of it and they laughed and said not a chance. "I miss some games anyway I'm not being told to miss one that I can make" was a comment made to me.

Unfortunately as a fanbase I dont think we are anywhere near the "official boycott" stage.

Reality is we had a 11/12k hardcore that has now become 8k.

The club seem to have meekly accepted this as have a lot of that hardcore, the future is very grim indeed and those who scoff at it i assume will be happy to pay a lot more next season to cover it ?

Exactly what we said would happen, especially for a 3pm. The ‘boycott’ is happening anyway, 6,000 are in the ground midweek, 8,000 on a Saturday. 6,000 for a Championship club of our stature! That should have been shouted from the rooftops through traditional and social media, we didn’t need anything ‘official’. 

Case study, lad next to me, he’s lamented with me what’s happened to this club every step of the way for a decade plus, he is no way in the ‘who else we gonna get brigade?’ But when I floated the boycott idea him and his mate looked at me like I had two heads. It wouldn’t have entered their minds for a second to do that, or that I would do it either. For them it’s simple; this is who they support, so they turn up, terrible owners and all, they just hope they can see them off at some point.

Whilst they are paying the wages the remaining core will be there and as soon as you start making it ‘official’ it actually becomes counterproductive folk get very intransigent about it, ‘who are these people telling me what to do?’

The timing of it all is off for me.

ie just before xmas, with folk on annual get togethers meeting mates and family at the match. The gate against Wrexham will be half decent, simply because it's the festive season.

Before we know it, any momentum has been lost, let alone started.

Should have waited until early January when people will be on natural downer.

Regarding fan boycotts and support from the ground, I thought I’d take a longer view and look at average attendances across local clubs over a large period to see how we’ve actually fared compared to teams around us.

I’ve looked at every season from 2009 to 2010 onwards and taken the average attendance figures from three different websites for consistency. I’ve done the same for Bolton, Preston and that lot down the road. It's too large to put all seasons for all teams in, but, Comparing the average attendances from those the first and last seasons gives a fairly interesting picture.

2009–2010

Rovers (PL): 25,428

Bolton (PL): 21,881

Burnley (PL): 20,654

Preston (Champ): 12,935

 

2024–2025

Rovers (Champ): 16,161 (36% decrease)

Bolton (League One): 21,325 (2.5% decrease)

Burnley (Champ): 19,876 (3.77% decrease)

Preston (Champ): 16,505 (27.59% increase)

I have it nearly directly from the snakes mouth that they want a number so silly and delusional (£160m+) that it’s functionally the same as saying “not for sale”.

They’d not even get that if we were in the PL (unless we became an established team again).

Indeed. And then they get us there it will then be time to point at Bolton, Huddersfield, Bradford, Cardiff and shout 'we can't compete with that'.

Then a few more years and they'll be pointing towards Notts County, Swindon and Oldham and 'we can't compete with that'.

The trouble when you've got no pride or ambition and are solely interested in cutting costs and corners is that there's no end to it - you can always find more to cut, more reductions to be made, more excuses to throw out.

Play the game long enough and I'm sure we could say that we can't compete with the likes of Carlisle and Southend.

I did similar asking people what they thought out this "turn the tops off" protest and not spending in concourse. They said they would be coming to games, if they want to have a pint or 2, they will. I will do what's suit me was the answer. The players need our support and I will continue to do that. 

They were the answers given to me.

The one thing I would say about the timing argument is that the coalitions direction allows both the festive attendance - but on the priviso you don’t spend in the ground - and then the full boycott is in January when all of the usual festivities are over.

I would urge people to follow the turn the taps off. Ultimately, this is what will damage the Venkys. You can still show your support and attend but not giving the club money hurts

That said, even if it only disrupts revenue by 10-20% then it has done its job. I’m sure the coalition can point to that in next years accounts when revenue is down 😄

Isn't is Sodexo who runs the Concourse kiosks and its their profit you are hitting not Rovers?

we don`t need a public appeal for a boycott,it`s already began,the crowd yesterday was about the same as the oxford game,nowhere near 11,500,more like 7,000,if the chicken disrespectors don`t **** off we`ll playing to even less next season,whatever division we are in

Yeah I know, but anyone thinking there'll be much of a reaction this side of xmas will be disappointed.

Hopefully there will be more comms post xmas to get the momentum going.
