The trouble with players of that age is you can β€œ go β€œ at any time. I remember reading an autobiography by a famous England player. He said he was playing great in the Home Internstionals that used to be played towards the end of the season but when he returned for training at his club in late July he could feel he’d lost a yard of pace. Β Instead of gathering the ball in his stride he felt he was reaching for the ball all the time.

Baath could be great for them next season or he could be struggling. Same would apply if he’d signed for us. It’s a gamble against time. And Β β€œ time waits for no man. β€œ

We saw it with Mulgrew. His legs were suddenly just gone, and he went from being a solid first choice to somebody you'd only want to bring on for the last 15-20 mins. A shame as he was by far the best player we had from dead-ball situations. Unfortunately he couldn't jump off the bench just to take free kicks and corners.Β

Hedges got in some good positions yesterday and played the right pass to Brittain for his assist. He played a great weight pass for Ohashi's winner at Luton last season. Plus he has been regular under the previous 2 head coaches and Ismael wanted him to stay this season.Β

we were short in midfield last season cos when injuries hit and we lost Baker aswell, we were short. We need 5 options in there and right now we have this

Still need in terms of players in, right sided attacking player, another forward and centre back. if we made those 3 signings, we have 25/26 man squad

Can get into as many good positions as he wants, he doesnt do much in those positions, the fact that you are hyping up a pass in the build up to a goal in a friendly and one of only 2 assists (and one goal) he got last season suggests hes little use.

You was very keen to say that hes fine as a squad player. I presume you still think we need a first choice right winger anyway. Hopefully we can finally get one as repeated failures to do so in the market have left us having to play him.

It tells you all you need to know when he’s never ever been linked with a move to another club.

Says a lot about the Forshaw signing that so many feel that even with one signing that we are still short.

Pointless signing.

Before acknowledging that Dolan and obviously Weimann were leaving, we wanted a right winger and a forward. We didnt score enough goals last season. I just cant get my head around why people think we just need a right winger now. We have no senior competition for Cantwell without Weimann and we also dont have a striker in. Gueye is not direct competition for Ohashi as he forces a total change in style.

We need more than 1, that is for sure. We need more goals and more pace.

And the reason he has played so much is that we have failed repeatedly to successfully recruit wide players full stop.

I get where you're coming from but we've not seen Tronstad linked to another club, does that mean he's poor?Β

Isn’t Forshaw considered CM? Tronstad, Trav, Tavares and Forshaw?Β
Β

it will be exciting to see what happens with Buckley. Always held him high in regard and thought he would establish himself, but time is running out.Β
Β

Β

Forshaw would be the same as Garrett / Montgomery for mine - a bloke you bring on for 15/20 minutes when the starter is tired.

I wouldn't want to start him.

Failed on his loan at Sheffield Weds

not fancied by any of last 3 managers reallyΒ

always a liability and a booking waiting to happenΒ

I think he'll have to drop down a level and will need to go to a team that doesn't ask him to run too much.Β

I could see him being a big success in L1 and reigniting his career in the right set up.

Swansea looking to offload Jerry Yates. I mean we could do a lot worse and his pressing style would suit our set up.Β

He would offer good competition to and share the burden with Yuki.

Another sub 6', slow CF?

No thanks.

I think it's partly because most of us are realistic - we're simply not bringing in that many players so, as fans, we're prioritising.Β

Any reason Garrett hasn't been involved in pre season for the first team? Could he be off again?

Simply not good enough.

Couldn't even hack it at a lower level when out on loan.

At 22, time to say goodbye.

Is it unrealistic though? We wanted 6 or 7 before Batth, Weimann and even Dolan left. Ismael has also said that this summer is more of a re build than we had planned.

Also, even if we arent and it is a case of prioritising. I cant understand why people are prioritising another midfielder over more attacking options. Thats my main point.Β Β

Forshaw was very good towards the end of the season at coming off the bench late on and calming the game down.

The criticism of his game, as ever, is wildly exaggerated.Β

Because we have to think of the future too if we can get a midfielder in now and with one of or both trav/tronstad not renewing means we’re not chasing our tail (again) next summerΒ

That’s the market we’re shopping in under the Chicken Chokers. We aren’t going to looking at any player over Β£1 million. Even thst is unlikely.

I think we're lacking a small tricky creative number 10 type. Someone who can take a shot on from range... An Ilias Chair type.Β

Preferably avoid Chair as he throws bricks at lorries.Β

Cantwell has the capacity for this.

Hopefully the Leicester lad can ease the creative burden and let cantwell roam moreΒ

I think the criticism was due to his performances in the games he started. He started 12 games last season across 2 clubs and won just one. In most of his Rovers starts he was poor with people going drifting past him too easily leading to him having to stand off his man to avoid getting turned.

Forshaw Season 24/25 starts

P12 W1 D2 L9

For Rovers when he featured 45mins+

P7 W1 W1 L5

He did play a combined total of 78 minutes in the five games at the end where he did look better as we tended to be in front and defending heavily by that point. β€œVery good” is the over-exaggeration.

Plus Batth didn’t look to be on the decline and people are concerned about his age. Forshaw looked old when he featured, clearly is on the decline and turns 34 next month.Β

I think we need the following, in this order assuming no sales of key players:

1) RW - Dolan replacement / better than Hedges (easy to find as both are average)

2) CB - We need one more. Carter is made of glass and Wharton early back from a long injury.

3) CM - Trav, Sonny, Tavares, +1

Fwiw - I don’t think we need another striker. I would be really inclined to put my trust in Yuki and big Mak who I think will get better after a year in the league and a full preseason.

Β

If no-one leaves I dont think we need any more defensive or midfield options.

Desperately need a decent right winger and at least one more striker who can chip in towards the goal tally. Someone posted a preferred first X1 a while back which boasted a grand total of 20 League goals between them last season. Ohashi and Gueye are both far better than Gallagher in their own way but probably still won't get you more than 5-10 goals each.

We need a lot more firepower and I think VI has more or less admitted as such.
