I think you are being very generous saying that Rovers have spent Β£12 million in the last 4 years. I bet it is well short of that in terms of cash actually paid out so far.

Pity more of it isn't spent on replacing outgoing players.

They get Β£20m for Hackney...we got Β£20m for Wharton who will become one of the best midfielders in the prem. Oh to be a well run club.Β

And barely a penny of the Wharton money re-invested whereas I bet Boro re-invest 50-75% of that fee.

Β

Agreed.

WhilstΒ Hackney is goodΒ

He is not the level of Wharton so we should have sold for way more..

and we are still yet to see that reinvestmentΒ

I must be the only one that thinks Delap is a donkey - well besides Chelsea who have immediately recruited over him.Β

It's a squad game, teams need more than one striker. He'll likely be rotated with Pedro, with Nkunku and Jackson leaving.Β

It does feel like there is a lack of urgency around transfers. And that the big chunk of our business has been done, just wanting a couple more but nothing close.

The players we have signed do in the main feel like plugging gaps in the squad rather than improving the team.

Absolutely, with no replacements for Weimann or Dolan either.

Haven't you heard? We've improved on last year and all of our existing players are now demonstrably better than they were 2 months ago.

Blackburn Rovers' transfer window so far;
Sidnei Tavares
Dion De Neve
Ryan Alebiosu
Sean McLoughlin

Hull City's transfer window so far;
Gustavo Puerta
Reda Laalaoui
Semi Ajayi
Akin Famewo
Dillon Phillips
Joel Ndala (Loan)
Brandon Williams (On trial)
John Lundstram (Soon)

Hull City, who are under a 3-window embargo, have so far had a significantly better window than us... just let that sink in.

To be fair, I am really not sure they have.

Ajayi and Famewo have injury historys, they are having trouble registering the top 2 (Puerta was there last season), Phillips is a sub keeper, Ndala is an untested kid and Williams hasnt signed but has a questionable character and hasnt played for a while.

They also have had a lot of departuresΒ from their first team squad

But that being said, if Rovers were under an embargo, as we have seen before, we would end up with Sacha Petshit and Bengali Fode Koita, rather than a Brandon Williams, who may have a questionable character, but is a potentially ambitious signing who could make them a good profit if they get him back to previous levels

Absolutely. But in this window, I definitely wouldnt say that Hull have had a significantly better window.

Lots of teams have improved on paper more than us. Wouldnt include Hull.

Without factoring in outgoings, I think many would rather take the players they've signed over the players we have.

If someone said to me we could swap just Gustavo Puerta and Brandon Williams as permanent signings, for all 4 of ours - i'd probably take itΒ πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

I would disagree personally.

Puerta was ok there last season so is just making that deal permanent, if and when he can be registered.

Brandon Williams I wouldnt touch.Β

The cynic in me says, Venkys are making sure that relegation will happen this season.Β

Eustace and Szmodics have kept their plans on hold for 2 seasons.Β

Middlesbrough have sold players worth over 50 million pounds over the last 2 seasons. They haven't spend ANY money on transfers so far. Let that sink in too!

I imagine that comment will age like milk by the time the window is closed,

As they have demonstrated in recent seasons, they spend upwards of 70% of the money that they bring in, and they are just about to bring in another Β£20M +

They may not have signed an absolute like for like for Latte Lath (they loaned Iheanacho IIRC), but they brought in Whittaker for over Β£7m and also spent Β£5m on Conway in summer 2024.Β

In fact, looking at TransferMarkt will show you the following;

Money In 24/25: Β£27.15m
Money Spent 24/25: Β£25.19m

Money In 23/24: Β£25.70m
Money Out 23/24: Β£16.16m

Money In: 22/23: Β£27.37m
Money Out: Β£10.23m

Money In 21/22: Β£1.80m
Money Out 21/22:Β Β£12.56m

That's about 78% reinvestment on incomings over the last 4 seasons.Β

Rovers since 20/21
In: Β£57.99m
Out: Β£12.40m

21% reinvestment -Β Net: +45.59mΒ

They also have bought 2 players in the last few days.

And had the delay of a managerial change.

Apparently each dealΒ  is worth "up to Β£3M"Β

Jones

Kante

Which by my maths, is more than Β£0

AlsoΒ Β If Hackney is sold, Boro will sign another midfielder, with options in mind who they’d hope can come in and make more of an instant impact to replace a regular starter.

I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up with Brittain & either Travis or Tronstad

Luton were linked to Travis when Edwards was manager there, so I wouldn't be surprised if he's on a list somewhere.

They signed a midfielder for Β£3 million yesterday or day beforeΒ

Middlesbrough have made two signings now - Alfie Jones from Hull for a fee which could reach Β£3million with add ons and Abdoulaye Kante (defensive midfielder) from Troyes for a fee reported at less than Β£2million.

Clearly, reinvesting the Hackney money.

Will they now deliver a knockout bid for Brittain to thwart Eustace and Derby.

Because, as you say, we are in managed decline.

We are in managed decline and there’s nothing positive to draw from Venkys reign….but I still can’t get comfortable with anyone be β€œsure” that we’ve had a bad window. And just because you don’t know a player, and he doesn’t cost millions doesn’t mean he’s rubbish.

It’s different if the club hadn’t signed anyone or if they were signing players we’d been watching for years and could say unequivocally that they were crap!? But I’d put money that most of us haven’t seen any of them play before, including McLaughlin. So I just don’t see how anyone can be so sure that we’ve had a bad window.
