I’ve asked this to be raised before as I just can’t fathom it… at least the de-Roversisation of Blues Bar they can blame on Sodexho. 3 Quote

Playing a team with a manager, captain and a few other players who left us directly or indirectly because of how shoddily we are run sums up our 150th anniversary very nicely. I presume the owners will all be turning up to mark the event? If they turn up I'll run on the pitch in frilly knickers Quote

We've done exactly the same for this Anniversary as the 100th and 125th. All I'm saying is what is the difference in terms of an Anniversary match. They have all been regular League games played on or as close to 5th November as possible. As you say the 100th and 125th games were celebrated against Football League founder members, together with the books issued at that time. If a similar event had been put on this time, I don’t imagine there would have been too much comment. But, if the club want to celebrate by putting on an extra ‘special game’ then at least make it a game against a proper club with some history or relevance 2 Quote

Hasta Posted yesterday at 15:33 Posted yesterday at 15:33 (edited) There's another international break on Saturday 15th November. I'd have done something on that Saturday - either two 45 minute games (first team friendly & then legends game) or one single mixed Soccer-Aid style game with current first teamers and past players / legends. Just as with whatever they are planning anyway, it would need the presence of a couple of proper legends to draw interest - Shearer, Tugay, Sutton etc.. Make a day of it. Throw in a couple of unannounced surprises. Do the honour caps we've already been doing on the day. They should have compiled all previous "goal of the season" winners to let fans vote for a 'goal of the millennium' competition (Reidy). Launch the book and you can get it signed. Hell, even rename the Riverside in honour of Tony Parkes on the day like they should have done already. There's all sorts you could have done on a day of celebration. But if you are going to do something do it proper, or don't do it at all. Instead they are bolting something which is still lacking detail onto the end of a league game, when people will have been in the ground already for 2.5 hours. It's like they don't understand that if we lose that game the last thing people will be in the mood for is a 'celebration'. And if it is poorly attended people will question why. chaddyrovers Posted yesterday at 17:08 Posted yesterday at 17:08 some good ideas and replies so thanks. I thought the game against Everton was part of the 150th anniversary plans, but I can understand why playing someone like Athletic Bilbao or Grasshopper Club Zurich would have been a good idea. Didn't we look into a friendly with Bilboa but weren't they unavailable to play. Some have mentioned a friendly being played between international break the week after Derby game. Maybe a fans vs legends game would be good. I think @JHRover make a very good point about having a home shirt for the season not just for the game after Derby. I would have liked to see proper retro style home kit. Think the gold kit is a great one and one I like straight away. I do understand people concerns over it but I like its different to previous kits over the years. 6 hours ago, JHRover said: A new or temporary club crest for the season - perhaps in gold or altered to make reference to the occasion - so that anyone who sees it recognises it is different and special Yes I could see the logic on the unique 150th home shirt and then back to the original one on the gold kit 6 hours ago, JHRover said: Programmes (digital and paper) being reintroduced even just for the season and each edition being comprehensive and accurate about significant occasions and people from our long history - plenty of material to go at fair point 6 hours ago, JHRover said: A proper range of merchandise to celebrate the occasion - not a few t-shirts of dismal quality 6 hours ago, JHRover said: A new timeline being introduced with it being permanently installed around the ground never know why the previous ones were taken down and not replace 6 hours ago, JHRover said: A club documentary - released on Youtube and media channels - make it a feature length film presented by a 'legend' or two chronicling it all the way from start to present (preferably ignoring the last 15 years of hell). I totally agree 100%. 1 Quote
... Posted yesterday at 17:09 Posted yesterday at 17:09 Question, the gable ends near the ground, does that need the homeowners permission/ council's permission etc? Wondering if we could crowd fund for it or source a local artist preferably a Rovers fan that would do it free of charge Quote
roversfan99 Posted yesterday at 18:00 Posted yesterday at 18:00 Even the idiots who own and run us amidst their desperate attempts to lower standards wouldnt try to proclaim a friendly against Everton to be part of celebrations. Quote

That's good to know. I'm not sure if the club commissions works like that or the community does. @only2garners could this also be pursued at the next FF Quote

The Old Etonians seems to be an added extra. There is a book, just as there was for the 100th and 125th. Sorry, I just don't get the outrage over this particular point. Times have changed. There were so many great suggestions put to the club which they could have followed up to make sure that there were some actual celebrations in addition to simply labelling a league match as 'The anniversary game'. You may have been involved in the 150th committee yourself ? WATR started making suggestions over 2 years ago. Relations between the club and the fans is at an all time low. The 150th anniversary presented an opportunity for the club to rebuild some bridges and show some interest in the fans and the community. The obvious disrespect that they continue to show for the fans is epitomised by the indifference with which they have approached our 150th year. 2 2 Quote
