Mattyblue Posted October 3 Posted October 3 Can’t imagine they’ll get close to filling it at half 12 on Sky, they aren’t doing great themselves. Quote
Members rog of the rovers Posted October 3 Members Posted October 3 The ‘Legends’ game feels like a disaster waiting to happen. As part of a more detailed Anniversary celebration season (and with more confidence in the club) I’d perhaps be a little excited. This will be Rovers’ “Fyre Festival” 5 Quote
Backroom Tom Posted October 3 Backroom Posted October 3 (edited) Bobby Mimms, MGP, Matt Derbyshire and Kevin Gallacher announced. Maybe ex players like Ryan Nyambe, Lewis Travis and co can join in. Nobody from the first 50 years? I’m out! But it feels like a terrible idea overall, can see us getting battered and the Derby fans being the only ones staying around for a while to rub it in Edited October 3 by Tom 1 Quote
StHelensRover Posted October 3 Posted October 3 Derby have a decent away following, I think they would probably bring 3k regardless of kick off time, then probably add on another 1k for the interest of coming to goad us about Eustace. At those prices I think they'll definitely sell out the bottom tier. They'll be coming to goad and spoil the party and it will probably be a 6-pointer. 1 Quote

Penwortham Blue Posted October 3 Posted October 3 They are just absolutely clueless ! They are setting this once great club and what is left of its weary and beaten supporter base, up for further and complete ridicule from the football world. It is the single most crazy idea that the idiots have come up with in the 15 long years of our domestic slavery to the foreign occupiers, totally shameful. It will be an absolute unmitigated disaster and the fools and idiots behind this, must be the only ones who don’t see it 🙈😞 2 1 Quote
Tomphil2 Posted October 3 Posted October 3 If Eustace doesn't start getting a few wins together before then it could be a very strange atmosphere. Nobody can gloat at the min. 1 Quote

J*B Posted October 3 Posted October 3 This is such a bad idea I’m very tempted to buy a ticket to see it with my own eyes. 2 Quote

JHRover Posted October 4 Posted October 4 Come full time at 2:30pm there's a pretty strong chance we will have seen Rovers get beat by a Derby team containing our former management team, captain, and 3-4 other players. Unless something changes quickly we will be in or around the bottom 3 of the Championship. Odds are the weather will be crap as well. How many of the 8000 Rovers fans are going to hang around in those conditions potentially watching Derby fans/players/staff celebrate and gloat whilst Rovers get ready to play this 'legends' match afterwards? Not many at all I'd wager. It's hard enough getting people to stay in their seats for the 'lap of appreciation' after the final home game when we've lost never mind watch another match. 1 Quote
Mike Graham Posted October 4 Posted October 4 (edited) The £18.75 idea (as well as £187.50 ST’s) was one the Trust suggested to the Club some 2 1/2 years ago when we first starting talking to the club about “a season of celebrations”. The club take the best of our ideas (including the flexi ST) as their own ideas then launch them with the worst possible timing. Edited October 4 by Mike Graham 6 1 Quote

Another problem is how many will turn up for a 9 or 10 kick off friendly game. They should have payed a bit extra for top European team and get a big crowd some neutral fans on. But it's lets do everything on the cheap and loose more money. 1 Quote
J*B Posted October 5 Posted October 5 The answer was, still is and will always have been Bilbao at home during an off week with a combination of ex players, managers and current players. But that would have cost money. 3 Quote
Miller11 Posted October 5 Posted October 5 There was an initial plan to actually do something quite interesting with this idea, but it seems like it was too much effort. my best guess is Old Etonians were promised something ages ago and we are obligated to make a game happen, so very recently David Dunn has been tasked with cobbling a team together. Shoehorning it on to the end of the Derby game means none of the staff at Ewood have to work an extra day. Suits them, suits Suhail. They are all delighted they don’t have to do Sundays as the women’s team has been bombed off to Clitheroe, and that we only had one pesky league cup game. 2 Quote

Backroom Mike E Posted October 5 Backroom Posted October 5 (edited) I had suggested so many ideas around Bilbao while in RT, I’m quite genuinely amazed they haven’t tried SOMETHING along those lines. I had suggested all sorts of weird and wonderful ideas to try and spark some imagination, like a ‘joint kit’ with Bilbao for a season (even if it was only 3rd kit) or even asking if the towns could be twinned. Something! And these were suggested in 2019. Edited October 5 by Mike E 3 Quote

J*B Posted October 6 Posted October 6 BRAG got Tugay and about 5K in the stands for a random match, I reckon there won’t be as many for this. 7 1 Quote
JHRover Posted October 6 Posted October 6 The other issue with this is logistics. When the Derby game hits full time you can bet on it taking a good 15 minutes for the pitch to clear, all the staff to get out of the way, media/Sky gang out. Then all the Rovers and Derby players will need their post-match discussion, shower and change before leaving the stadium. Are they going to be doing all that whilst there's another game taking place outside? Where are the 'legends' and Old Etonians going to change? They won't be able to use the home or away dressing rooms until probably an hour after full time so are they going to be stuck in a cupboard or spare room somewhere? Access the pitch from round the back of the Riverside as the tunnel is off limits? Pretty sure there are rules in place with the EFL regarding who can access the tunnel area before/during/after a game and time limits for that so that could easily cause a problem All the while they are expecting good numbers of fans to sit in their seats and wait... I say these things because I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if nobody down there has even considered these issues and just thinks there will be 22 kitted out players stood waiting in the tunnel to run onto the pitch and kick off at full time.
