I just can't see it. With the amount of time left and the score being 1-0, there was still a chance of them scraping a draw at least. Unlikely perhaps being down to 10, but nowhere near impossible.

The problem is there's no truly fair and logistically reasonable way to proceed. It's going to be unfair to somebody no matter what, so they'll look at historical precedents and what the decision would mean for similar situations in the future. I think they'll mandate a replayed match, unfortunately.

Yeah sadly I can’t see any other outcome either really

The Portsmouth home game in league 1 under Mowbray was much worse condition. Yet the game finish..its a bit of rain FFS

I thought that at first, but when you watch it back it’s not actually as bad as today. The last two highlights are in the 87th and 90th. Ball rolling a bit better than this afternoon.

Genuinely amazed anyone think we will be awarded the win.

Game will be replayed, probably w/c 27th October as thats the next free date for both clubs.

It had become impossible to play on that pitch. I dont care how other games compare. Players couldnt make 5 yard passes without the ball stopping in a puddle. The ball stopped dead on the pitch.

Yeah, I think most people would agree that it was probably the right decision as it was starting to become farcical.

The issue is will the league show some bollocks and come up with the right decision

was that pitch in 2017 worst than today?

Clearly not, no. The ball is moving better than this aft.

I’d like to see the last 5 mins against Preston again when we won 1-0.

First and foremost, well done to the players, manager and coaching staff as they all did their job superbly. They must all be absolutely fizzing that due to a lack of investment (you can buy tanking systems) they have not got a well deserved win today. The players were even up against it in midweek as all the training pitches were flooded, according to the manager.

3 game weeks will be so tough with a small squad, we've just added another.

As I understand it in the EFL if a match is abandoned, the allocation of points depends on the reason for abandonment and the stage of the match. There is no automatic rule awarding points — the decision is made by the league’s governing body after reviewing circumstances.

Timing matters as if it's abandoned before 75 minutes played then the match is usually replayed in full, regardless of the score at the time of abandonment.

After 75 minutes played the EFL may choose to let the result stand, but this is discretionary and depends on the context of the abandonment ie weather, misconduct, safety, ill health etc..

So as we are the Rovers a replay is virtually a nailed on certainty!

No doubt its a full replay, they have 11 players and they hit form. We get a few injuries and we know what happens.

Ridiculous. But they will follow their precedent.

In Spain they pick up from where it left off, which seems the fairest conclusion.

We'll be replaying that game on a freezing Tuesday evening in January or February infront of about 9k fans.

Ipswich will be in completely different form, probably near the top of the league. We'll be ravaged by injuries and suspensions.

We'll lose 2-0, that will be that.

It will be because we've got archaic drainage facilities which are the laughing stock of the football league, because we've got some of the worst owners in the football league.

It's unacceptable that Ewood Park now can't host football matches if there's going to be heavy rain. The Dingles, Wanderers and Blackpool all managed to play. Chorley, Morecambe too.

It probably isn't cheap to fix, might even be a couple of million quid, but our owners are billionaires, so it's pocket change to them. Will they fix it? Or will abandoned/postponed matches just be an annual thing at Ewood Park?

We played very well today and would have fully deserved the win. We haven't been robbed by the ref, McKenna or anyone else, we've been robbed by our owners who are too incompetent to bring our stadium into the 21st century.

Shearer famously scored twice past Schmeichal when rovers beat United 2-0  in April 94 and the stand was being done then. It opened for the start of the 1994/95 season.
What was the last league game which fans sat in the Nuttall Street stand before demolition is a good question.

Again I could have sworn I viewed the ManUre game from the upper tier of the new JW stand which if thats the right Wimbledon game would mean the stand would have had to have opened between 03/01/94 and 02/04/94  yet I dont remember it opening mid season.

It’s clearly not playable here

I actually don’t think giving us the win is a fair outcome but replaying in full definitely isn’t, it really should be last 10-15 replayed at 11 v 10

Full of excuses again.

Very pathetic and tinpot from the Ipswich fans and players the way they were celebrating a game being called off I thought, but then it was very pathetic and tinpot not being able to host a football game in 2025 in the 2nd tier of English football because of rain.

Just as well something like this didn't occur back in 1994 on the last day when we played there as don't think my nerves would have handled it.     It's a shame for all involved today's game had to be cut off by bad weather.   Obviously as a Town fan I'm relieved to have avoided a probable defeat and the result will most likely be expunged but aware Rovers fan were denied a probable victory had it continued or at least in normal conditions.

Haven't seen the game as yet but everything points to it becoming so bad it were simply unplayable, it's a shame everything had to be cut off with only 10 minutes remaining.     By all reports we were largely rubbish (once again) and in theory could have taken an undeserved point by the end of it had it gone on but it's by now all largely hypothetical and we'll never know.

At least Szmodics got to return at his former club and was involved but he's nowhere near the same calibre of player that left Ewood Park to the one that he's now employed with.     I think it would have been best for all involved if he had stayed at Blackburn at time of sale and never made the move.    He just hasn't hit it off with us.

I'm sorry if McKenna upset or angered anyone today.   He's something of an under fire individual now with the magic of once before having worn thin.    An abandonment, while to people's chagrin, most likely saved him from another defeat or setback.    He and We got away with something today, I just wish the game had been able to continue to it's natural conclusion to award a clear winner rather than end in some level of chaos or leaving a number of people unhappy or wanting answers.

The longer the game went on the more unplayable the pitch became. How long did it take to fix the refs arm connection?

Ha just seeing ref in Manure game having same problem.

He did make himself look like a bit of an arsehole, but I think any fan would want their own manager to be up to the same shenanigans to look out for their team and gain an advantage.

We've done this to ourselves by having incompetent owners who don't keep our ground up to modern standards.

Disgrace that we appear to have about 3 guys with pitchforks meandering round, should be sweeping it off as much as possible surely (although admittedly they know the job better than I do)

They need to invest in a super soaker like the one Lancashire cricket have. Get it on before the game starts and at half time and that game gets finished. But then we're calling for investment so that's not happening.

We were cruising...stopping the game was only good for Ipswich...it was a nailed on three points....you all know what the outcome will be...

Even if its terrible weather as a referee you should stop the game at 0-0 at half time. I think this is a bit in the referee...

I hope all your fans got back OK. I feel for people who spent their hard earned money and time to see an unfinished game after travelling all that way. Interesting comments on McKenna, presumed he would still have his Halo .
