Duru back off loan to cover Alebiosu ?

Only loan I could see being recalled would be O'Riordan. He can cover at centre back with Wharton and Carter still out, would allow Miller to shift to RWB if needed also.

I still think we'll just shove Hedges at RWB and be done with it.

with him going to afcon, think if i was VI id look to go with morishita as right wing back. He looks to me as our best crosser of a football. He also has the japanese work rate to do the up and down work.

Usually a wing-back has to be reasonably strong in defensive work. I don't know if Morishita could do that.

I'm thrilled he's representing Nigeria at the AFCON. Yes, it leaves us in a pickle, but any well‑run team prepares for situations like this. Instead, we've been underprepared, just as we have been for pretty much every scenario thrown at us this season. I don't blame him at all; I'm delighted for him because the call‑up is thoroughly deserved. My disappointment is with the club for not being ready.

What concerns me most is that as soon as rumours of a call‑up started a month ago, we should have been knocking on his door with a new, improved contract. We didn’t act, and now he'll return from AFCON as a full international (maybe even a winner) and will quite rightly expect far more than whatever we eventually offer. To me, it's yet another example of the club acting too late, or not acting at all.

That's because you are looking at it from the point of view of somebody who wants the team to do well.

If Alebiosu comes back with his reputation enhanced and the club can sell for a decent profit, I'm sure they'll be delighted. Onto the next cheap punt/academy player. There is no desire here to keep hold of our best players through increasing salary - we have seen that throughout this year.

good, he can`t get injured warming the bench, which is my major concern

My first instinct when i saw the Alebiosu thread was bumped was "how bad is the injury" 🫣

Another win for Nigeria so they’ve qualified for knock out round, Ryan now there for longer. Once again no minutes played.

Surely its better from our point of view that he doesnt play.

Rest him up and although I appreciate the days of players being signed based off good tournaments are much less common seeing as all games are available, less awareness as to how good he is to reduce the likelihood of bids.

Beating Tunisia 3-1 means Nigeria almost certainly win the Group and a favourable draw in the knock outs.

Let's see if there any squad rotation for the last Group game.

Gutted he's not getting minutes.

From a selfish point of view, I'm delighted he isnt playing.

Kind of like a mid season break for him which was probably needed as the way he plays you can gaurentee he does a hamstring over this busy period if he was still here.

Hopefully he comes back in mid Jan ready to kick on for the second half of the season.

Yes and no. It's also frustrating if we lose a key player for those games for absolutely no reason, although it's better than if we had lost him to injury. And the emergence of Litherland is a bonus that may not have happened without this. We still have 4 points from 6 in his absence I think it is, so it hasn't been crushing so far.

He should come back refreshed if he doesn't play (jet lag around the time aside) though he will also train hard, and could lose a bit of match sharpness. Or may be deflated from wasting his time going out there. I hope and expect he at least comes back with a cap. Given they are already likely to go through as winners I suspect they will start him. Which lets them rest the other lad and see how Ryan does.

Jetlag shouldn't be a problem travelling between Africa and Lancashire

It's in Morocco so that's basically like flying to Spain for a long weekend. The only reason we get jet lag is because we're most likely travelling on Easy Jet and sloshing with beer - less jet lag, more alcohol recovery mode. They'll be travelling back in slightly better condition than most of us! 🤣

Alebiousu starting against Uganda.

The names I actually recognise are all on the bench. Looks like the second string being given the chance to impress.
