  1. I think you'll care when I tell you what the complaint is...
  2. I think the market has moved on a lot in those three years though. Players are costing a lot more to buy now thanks to the current Premier League TV deal, so are we actually any better off?
  3. We've only conceded 2 in the last 6 games. I think Walton is slowly starting to look a capable keeper at this level.
  4. I'd forgotten about him. What about Maceo Rigters? I remember him missing the ball when attempting a header in one game, and he looked like he had never played football in his life (despite being the top scorer at some international European tournament at youth level) EDIT: He might have actually been the decade before (Rigters)
  5. He did win our player of the year one season though, so I think it's a bit harsh to list him as one of our worst.
  6. Where would you fit Dack in that system? I just think with a 4-4-2 you lose a lot of threat from our best player.
  7. Bournemouth, Brighton and Burnley seem to manage alright with it.
  8. I had this horrible nightmare that Danny Murphy played for us.
  9. Was just having a look at Wigan's record with and without Mulgrew this season. With: W3 D3 L7 - 0.92pts/game Without: W1 D1 L6 - 0.5pts/game So if anything, they do slightly better with him in the side. Compare that with his record at Rovers since we have been back at this level: With: W7 D9 L14 - 1pt/game Without: W21 D8 L13 - 1.69pts/game (Games include cup games, but I've put it as pts/game just as an easy comparison)
  10. I'd sign Mitrovic, Assombalonga and Bamford. Just to further strengthen our wings
  11. He played a couple of cup games for Bournemouth - and friendlies. I bet you Mahoney goes on to have a more successful career than Armstrong. We'll have to dig this post out in a few years
  12. I heard Birmingham fans rated him when he was there, and some Bournemouth fans were disappointed he didn't get more of a chance. I'd personally play him over Armstrong, but I'm a round pegs in round holes kind of guy.
  13. Jack O'Connell was almost 21 when we let him leave after years of going out on loan. He's a Premier League regular now.
  14. He certainly wouldn't. We've got far too many strikers we can play out wide before picking an actual winger
  15. If you compare Rhodes and Rochina in 12/13 - we won 32% of games with Rhodes starting, compared to 46% of games when Rochina started. Then looking at 13/14 - we won 48% of games that King started in, 45% of games that Gestede started and 40% of games Rhodes started in. Rhodes lack of pace, strength and ability to hold up the ball caused us issues when we didn't have the ball or when he couldn't hold it up in my opinion.
  16. Between Gestede, King and Rochina they would have scored plenty of goals I'd have thought. I think it would have improved us defensively as well as Rhodes couldn't hold the ball up to save his life. Gestede could and King could stretch teams with his pace.
  17. Friedel, Emerton, Amoruso, Short, Gray, Gresko, De Pedro, Ferguson, Matteo, Yorke, Stead That was his team in his final home game before he went to Newcastle. Garth Crooks would have been proud of that line up! Still not quite sure who was playing where.
  18. I think he was unlucky not to get a better run of games. I'd have loved to have seen Rhodes left out, and Rochina playing in behind Gestede and King around that time. Think we would have scored a lot of goals playing like that - with a three in midfield behind and the full backs providing width.
  19. Plus, he's not actually keeping players happy with his rotation system anyway.
  20. Tried a search, but I couldn't find a suitable thread for this. Allardyce Motivational Techniques Before the 7-1 defeat at Old Trafford, Allardyce played a montage of film clips on a projector in the changing room to attempt to motivate his players. Obviously it didn't go too well, but of more concern to me was Givet's comment: 'After the match, we were all laughing. The warriors had completely passed us by.' I certainly wasn't laughing after that game. "Good" to see the players could see the funny side.
  21. Invest in another striker, and balance the side by playing him on the wing.
  22. Found this interview with Daniel Williams about a proposed takeover in June 2007. The bit in bold and italics is quite the prediction So any takeover would involve substantial funds being made available to the manager to spend in the transfer market? Yes. The institutions we have who are interested in doing this deal - and they have to remain confidential until the very end if we do end up doing a deal - are very, very large investment institutions and you don't make an investment in a Premiership football club without being willing to dig into your pockets, and make money available to ensure the club does well in the Premiership. Say we bought the club for £40m - not that that's the figure - and then said right go out and get us into Europe, we'd probably find ourselves in the Championship, and then League One after that (if we didn't then invest further). https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/rovers/news/1480619.buy-out-bidder-exclusive-interview/
  23. I very much doubt they see Steele as better than Walton. If you've got high hopes for a keeper, why have him sitting in the stands as third choice keeper, when he would be better getting first choice football somewhere. More often than not it doesn't matter how good your third choice keeper is - he's never going to play. For the record, Walton hasn't impressed me so far, but I was speaking to a Wigan fan last night who felt he got off to a shaky start there but ended up a very good keeper for them. He's still young - maybe it's a confidence thing.
