  1. It’s more often when they are perceived to be ” not trying “.
  2. If you’re going to a game expecting goal mouth incidents and excitement those were the days. If you want nice tip tappy intricate passing, especially in your own half, todays football is for you.
  3. The Fleetwoods - Come Softly To Me
  4. That’s because there was much more emphasise on attacking rather than defending. Most teams had two wingers and two main strikers normally augmented by an attacking playmaker. When the Dingles were a top side each of of the five forwards scored more than 15 goals each in one season. Nobody parked the bus or came for a draw. Every team that came to Ewood came to win, if they got battered they got battered trying to win. If you watch film from that era there is much more play in the attacking third of the pitch and much less in central midfield.
  5. Especially near the end of games. It’s no longer an 11 aside game. You need players you can bring on that will affect the outcome of the game. We don’t really have that until we get some of the missing players back on the pitch.
  6. I’d drink it if you gave me £2-50.
  7. When I was kid a gang of us who played for our school team on Saturday mornings would say “ Righto , what game are we going to this afternoon ? “ Utd, City, Rovers, Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Dingles ? Once we decided we’d jump on bus to whichever game and pay on the gate. Easy peasy. Why have they made attendance at games so difficult?
  8. That’s my one regret - that no film exists of games like the 7-2 demolition of Spurs and the Bryan Douglas wonder goal against West Brom. Now there would be.
  9. Furphy took David Bradford as well.
  10. For a pint of Amstel ! I’d rather drink my own piss.
  11. He also took Graham Oates with him. Plus Roger Jones if my memory serves me well.
  12. Well done matey. I’m now perfectly informed as to the goings on in our division for the first season in years.
  13. He knows how to finish, that’s for sure.
  14. The Isley Brothers - Tell Me It’s Just A Rumour Baby
  15. They’d better off sticking with Mowbray.
  16. I bet you don’t believe in Father Christmas either.
  17. It’s the same with lots of organisations, both public and private, these days. It’s all about maximising income. The days of providing a service first and foremost and charging you for it appropriately are long gone.
  18. Spanky And Our Gang - Sunday Will Never Be The Same
  19. Definitely - in the World Cup in Japan he was the best.
  20. Oh dear , what can I blame now ? Martha Velez - Tell Mama Some top musicians played on this, Clapton for one.
  21. Suits me. He hasn’t scored a goal for ages, let’s see how he goes on in the Prem !
  22. The Rivieras - California Sun
  23. Yeah, when the guys on Sky Sports used to say “ There’s been a last minute goal at Ewood Park “. Or wherever we were playing that day . “ Which way has it gone ? “ I’d be pretty confident it would have been a Rovers goal. Now I’m pretty confident it won’t be.
  24. I remember being stood outside “ Radio Rentals “ watching the scores come in on the old teleprinter on a TV in the shop window after my youth club team had played - “ FA Cup Rnd 5 Oxford Utd 3 Blackburn Rovers 1. I said to my mate “ That can’t be right, they must have mixed the scores up ! “ Oxford had only just come into the football league and we were up at the top of division 1. The one year I really fancied us to win the FA Cup. Nearly as shocking as opening the first paper on my paper round to see - “ Blackburn Rovers 1 - Workington Town 5 “. Whaaaat ?
