  1. Wasn’t there talk about him joining Shrewsbury around the last window ?
  2. My mum last night - “ Don’t tell me they’ve cancelled Coronation Street just because Prince Phillip has died ! “
  3. Bang on. Your manager is the most important man at the club and should be paid accordingly. Spending £7million on a dud striker and signing a manager on the cheap is idiotic.
  4. 2 in 12 isn’t much of an improvement on 1 in 12. Regarding the Dale - I live in Rochdale, I have mates who watch them regularly and I usually watch their highlights as well as going to several of their home games each season. So I do know a bit about them and their players. Until quite recently they were well known for bringing through a few decent players, especially when Keith Hill was there. The kids I’ve mentioned on here previously as pretty decent prospects were the goalkeeper they had on loan from Brighton who’s now first choice there and has been called up to the senior Spanish squad. Another one was centre half they had on loan from Wolves who’s now at Shrewsbury, Rathbone who I saw as a poor mans Travis, and that young full back who signed for Wolves recently. We’ll soon see if Humpreys is any good enough or not because I expect him to move on to one of the teams in our current league this summer if the rumours are to be believed.
  5. How can a manager stay on when his views on who should be in the squad are ignored. One position you should never get in in your working life - “ Responsibility Without Power “. Ideally you want “ Power Without Responsibility “.
  6. Me too. The handing of the League title to Wigan was enough for me. I’d have fired him then. The man has no ambition other than to stay in the job. He’s completely dissipated all the goodwill that the promotion engendered. When we get back to “ normal” gates will be a lot lower than they were when he came to the club.
  7. Not exactly prolific is it ? I don’t know wether the lad at Rochdale would make it at a higher level or not but I’d be prepared to give him a go as long as the price isn’t silly. Somebody at our current level will take a punt on him this summer, I’d say that was a certainty. As you said earlier, he’s a bit different to what we have at the moment given Dack’s injury.
  8. How many goals has Brererton got in his last 12 games ? Or Gallagher for that matter ?
  9. Have a look at his highlights video, it’ll be worth it. Some of the goals are Bradley Dack style efforts. My only reservation is does he want it enough to put in the effort in maintaining his fitness.
  10. Nobody is going to be banging loads of goals in at Rochdale, they’re the bottom of the league for a reason. Humphreys has got size and he can use it, unlike Brererton. He got a good shot in both feet, again unlike Brererton. He can lead the line, unlike Brererton, he scores headers - need I go on ? You can look at his highlights and you’ll see goals. All sorts of goals, free kicks, headers, dribbling finishes, tap ins etc. All I saw on the Brererton video was a guy who likes to run with the ball in wide positions. On the down side he’s had a couple of muscle type injuries. Would he make the step up ? Plenty of our rivals appear to think. I like the lad at Blackpool as well, he’s handy and he knows where the goals are, but £4 million ? Having said that he’d be better than 2/3rds of a Gallagher. In fact he’d be better than a whole Gallagher. It looks like we’re in the hunt for the Armstrong replacement.
  11. He’s the lad I mentioned a month or two back. I like him a lot but like Pickering it’s a big step up. There’s potential to improve him though, more so than what I saw in that Brererton video.
  12. The politicians that use “ drilling down “ for facts etc when they’ve obviously never drilled down anything in their lives.
  13. We need a game or two against teams that are mid table with the deck chairs out.
  14. I heard their stand in manager on Radio Lancs tonight. He said “ Get the defence right first and foremost, start getting some clean sheets “. Obvious isn’t it.
  15. Totally uninspiring interview once more from Mowbray. I heard Alex Neil’s interview when he was in a similar situation a week or two back, he held his hand up that he’d taken them as far as he could, didn’t know his best team etc etc. At least he was honest about things, our guy’s a con man.
  16. I think they saw what happened with Dack on the eve of his alleged money spinning move and they don’t want the same thing happening with Armstrong.
  17. Disc Jockeys at social events that think it’s all about them and insist on playing music so loud you can only actually speak to the people sat next to you. People in super markets who insist on carefully examining every packet of boiled ham or bacon etc before decided they don’t actually want bacon or boiled ham that day. This may be a “ Blackburnism “ as several people on this site do it quite often. Using “ them “ instead of “ those “. I E “ them shirts look terrible “ etc.
  18. I’m not over impressed with the statistical approach either. I remember one season MGP came top of the stats regarding tracking back. That looked really impressive until you realised that was all he did. He would run back with the opposing right back/right winger ok, but he never did anything to block the crosses coming in.
  19. That explains a lot. Smiley face. I had a couple of games there for the school team but I wasn’t tall enough fortunately. Too much self abuse - it must be true what they say about it stunting your growth.
  20. It’s not just the run of results, it’s the way we are playing. It’s really the pits. I can’t honestly remember such a poor run of form in all my 60 odd years of watching Rovers.
  21. Just to cheer us all up can I just remind everyone that it was on Easter Saturday 1963 that I saw the finest goal I’ve ever seen scored in the flesh. The scorer was Bryan Douglas of course. The game was against West Brom at Ewood. Here’s what Alf Thornton had to say about it in that evenings “ Last Sports “. - “ At 80 minutes DOUGLAS brought the house down with a wonder goal such as only he of present day footballers can score. He picked the ball up on his wing at the half way line, shrugged off attempted tackles by Clark and Bannister, went inside at speed and beat Williams, Jones and Fairfax with beautiful body swerves as though they did not exist before crashing in a terrific drive. The Rovers players dashed to congratulate him and the crowd gave him a standing ovation “. I was right behind the goals at the Darwen End and I had a birdseye view of the run from start to finish. It really was an amazing goal and I consider myself really blessed to have been there to see it. Alf’s report doesn’t really do it justice to be honest. Dougie was at genius level with the ball at his feet. There can’t be many of us left now that actually witnessed it, the gate was only 11,451 that afternoon. This was the day after we’d beaten a good Sheffield Wed team 3-0 at Ewood in front of a gate of 14,361.
  22. McGinn was the biggest miss but not altogether Mowbray’s fault.
