  1. Keith Andrews would have looked like Roy Keane during the Lowe, Akpan, Guthrie, Evans era. I think it was just because we were an established top flight side at the time, and Keith Andrews wasn't a top flight player IMO.
  2. Mowbray would probably have played him at left back.
  3. Yeah I gathered that a bit after, it was just an initial thought. Why is he claiming he had to change his username then? All a bit odd. I forgot to mention it will be interesting to see if your info comes to light today as well ?
  4. "Plans change" was a Nicko favourite wasn't it? To be fair bbrovers228 has got a few correct in the past and obviously has some decent info from somewhere. Not sure where that Dave guy has come from, I actually thought it was bbrovers228 at first when he started going on about how he had to change his username, we'll see if his info comes off or not today I suppose.
  5. That's why i put the disclaimer in, I know we can be a sensitive bunch on here during transfer windows. No idea on the left back, my only hope is it isn't an unknown youngster when I'd rather blood our own. Freeman would be a rediculous signing, and a bit of a game changer for me, which is why I refuse to believe it will happen.
  6. I'm going to predict that none of this happens, not getting at you there BTW. Funny on the McGinn thing, I always thought it didn't go any further because Mowbray told him he wouldn't be a guaranteed starter with Smallwood and Evans here.
  7. "Name one" to "name one we could sign now" is changing the question.
  8. Everything is easy in hindsight to be fair, and you can't just change the question because you don't like the answers.
  9. Tom Barkhuizen, picked up by PNE on a free from Morecambe.
  10. I think you should name and shame.
  11. I think we'll line up... Walton Nyambe Tosin Lenihan Bell Travis Downing Gallagher Holtby Bennett Armstrong Now Rothwell is out for a month I suspect we'll see Bennett and Johnson getting plenty of game time over the next few weeks with the positions rotating around a bit, so Downing in cm some games, on the left on others etc.
  12. I like this side, it'll never happen though.
  13. Rich Sharpe has tweeted that nothing is happening, thinks there is something in the Northampton GK but not for this window. Of course how much he actually knows is always up for debate.
  14. Judging by the fingers crossed, I imagine more "hope" !
  15. Probably should be the benchmark for a Saturday game that!
  16. Christ, Paul is having a mare on this thread "Supporting City no doubt", give over. I know loads of lads who just don't bother going now for a variety of reasons, they go to the odd away for a day on the ale, catch up with mates etc, still passionate Rovers fans who were going for years before even Jack turned up. It's not a priority for loads of people, I have a season ticket and it's not really a priority for me anymore, I always miss a few due to other events but keep my ST out of habit really.
  17. I think the "potential" part of the post was about Brereton to be honest.
  18. Its frustrating that the likes of Smallwood and Samuel are picking up a decent wage whilst doing nothing, but I don't blame them for wanting to see out there contracts for the sake of 6 months, these are probably the best deals either of them will have in there career. I have to say though, as things stand in the summer we'll need to do a hell of lot of work just to stand still in this league.
  19. Yes to be fair this is what I should have gone with. Still, it killed some time whilst nothing else is happening in this thread!
  20. At that time in 1996, there was no evidence that he would have gotten more money at Man Utd, or that he would have won more trophies. Newcastle had just finished 2nd in the top flight, smashed the world record transfer fee to get him (i'm sure his wage was pretty good too) and looked like they could go on for a spell as a top side in the country winning trophies, obviously the latter didn't happen. As Skip said, you can't compare all the names mentioned to Mahoney as they were all multi millionaires playing for one of the top sides in the country, find me an example of somebody in league one who turned down top flight offers because he was at the club he supported?
  21. Bit of a difference there to compare Mahoney and Shearer I think, yes it was his boyhood club but Shearer was in his prime and moved for a world record fee to the side that had finished second in the premier league, and looked like it could go on and win things for the foreseeable future. Mahoney was a kid who had just been relegated to league one, on pittance, and moved to a top flight club on 14k a week as mentioned above. I don't blame any player, whether they are a fan or not for taking the route that Mahoney did.
  22. Supporting a club goes out of the window when you become a pro unfortunately, I don't see how some can't grasp that.
  23. Are we getting some confusion between JRC and Buckley here?
  24. Surely by now you have learned that Mowbray says a lot of things ? I think most players would choose money to be honest over the club they support, it's a short career to make your millions after all. He might end up back here one day who knows.
