That’s what UEFA and the associations may threaten to do, I presume it will be for the courts to decide if they can actually prevent it, due to workers rights, prevention of professionals plying their trade etc.

But the last few years had seen a further explosion in plastics, as well as millions of foreign ‘fans’, all fuelled by social media and TV, it’s those fans that will take up the slack when it comes to TV subscription sales and filling the likes of Anfield (and stadia in Riyadh and Doha). Seems about right. Looks fairly clear that if you put the hard yards in with these owners, ‘gain their trust’ etc then you are set fair for as long as you fancy it. TM obviously cannily worked that out early on. Totally wrong set up for Championship football, but we all know that.
