  1. Not saying he was, they struck lucky as he hadn’t achieved much elsewhere. I’m talking about in recent years, and arbito’s view that the manager should be the top earner, they’ve realised that he is the one man keeping the whole show on the road and he is therefore the best paid employee at the club.
  2. And Dyche. That lot long realised he was the key to the whole thing staying afloat, so is paid accordingly - and made the former owners a bundle too.
  3. ‘I’ve spent my career not liking stats, it’s down to whether you win or lose’ Hang on, thought it wasn’t about winning or losing, but ‘performances’? Anyone would think he has begun to say the exact opposite to the above quote, which is the very antithesis of what first team managers are appointed for, for the benefit of idiotic owners and job preservation...
  4. For money. There’s a lot of grand old clubs across Europe, but for the ones outside elite leagues there’s not a pot to piss in. The Championship is far richer than the Czech or Serbian or Croatian top division, for example.
  5. They all do it, all protect each other’s back. You’d have thought Kean was the next Pep the way managers blew smoke up his arse each week...
  6. From non result focused managers and owners, to the tail still wagging the dog a decade on with a preferred agency providing a pre-approved shortlist of managers. What chance do we have, really?
  7. Such heritage and tradition, this wonderful club of ours, pioneers of the sport. Makes you sick to see how it is being neglected. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lancashire-56668983
  8. A manager and owner that aren’t ‘results orientated’. Certainly a unique way to run a professional football club...
  9. When the team is performing, we get away with it as the manager can just crack on with little interference. However, it is times like now when we are reminded what a hollowed out shell we are. Football is cyclical and the advancement of a football club is dependent on switched on executives and owners spotting staleness and decline, having an ear for fan (and player) unrest and nipping it in the bud. Here, we have powerless execs on the ground, an all powerful manager that is also the spokesman for the club, some shadowy go-between and owners that take little to no interest outside an annual meeting in which they fall for whatever claptrap is fed to them. We will never, ever get back on an even keel as a club until the whole culture of the place is transformed - alas, a decade on I doubt it ever will and we will all pay the price.
  10. The Missus and one of her colleagues invented one and chucked it into a meeting just to see if folk have any clue what they are waffling about... ‘yeah so I think we need to rinse the octopus with this one’. One fella carried on using it!
  11. ‘The club is delighted to offer current season ticket holders Premium Access to next season’s home shirt. For just £74.99 you have exclusive rights for shirt purchases for a whole 24 hours AND a signed postcard of Harry Chapman’.
  12. Won’t he just mean ‘blocking fuds’? I.e half term brings all the kids out on social media...
  13. Kevin Gallagher is a prime example, he’s become increasingly critical on Radio Lancs, but when asked outright if TM should go, he, of course, ducked the question. Why? Because he has links with the club through his soccer schools and the Former Players Association and doesn’t want to rock the boat. Now, he gets potted tomorrow and he’ll be on t’wireless on Saturday saying how it ‘was the right decision by the club because of x, y and z ’. It rivals public schools for the old boys network.
  14. 18 💁‍♂️ (Just the league position question wrong).
  15. There’s certainty an element of trying to place football norms on to this basket case of an organisation. Of course, a manager should be facing the chop after 1 win in 14 and a relegation threatening collapse underway. Of course a manager with such poor body language and comments are normally on the way out. Of course when the fans and local press have turned you are shortly after on your bike. These are just the understood rules of the game in professional football... apart from here. Doesn’t mean it won’t happen, Bowyer eventually went, but the Waggott/Mowbray/Venus axis seems to have a bigger hold on the club than even Kean and his acolytes...
  16. No, because he obviously never meant it, as he either thought he’d turn the form around before there was a clamour for him to follow through with it, or he’d be relieved of his duties by the club before that point (like everywhere else) anyway. It was all part of the ‘Honourable Salt of t’Earth Tone’ routine that fans have lapped up for four years.
  17. It’s all BS aimed at the owners. ‘Performances’, ‘squad value’ etc. When we actually used to pick up some wins he was all about the results, it was all ‘put the points in the bag and move on’, three months later and he’s transformed himself into a development coach. Embarrassing really.
  18. He missed two, both against Southampton... though he put the re-bound in on one of them.
  19. ‘I’m a performance based coach... but I know it’s a results business’ Well, it is everywhere else...
  20. And Sharpe gets off the pot too, must be bad... https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/19211306.not-decision---mowbrays-verdict-rovers-run-form/ Mowbray added: “You can’t defend the results, and I won’t try and defend the results, other than I’ve watched the performances and if I thought ‘we can’t win a game’ then I would be telling you We don’t need telling!
  21. Andy Bayes just asked TM if ‘he has reached the end?’ ‘He vehemently disagreed and certainty wouldn’t be waking’ Well obviously the ‘burden’ talk has now been put away as he enters self-preservation mode... but at least Bayes has finally approached the subject (some hard hitting journalism in these parts, ay).
  22. I wouldn’t expect someone to walk out of their last decent gig with 14 months of lucrative salary to go. At a normal club it is taken out of their hands long before you get into the complete debacle we are currently witnessing.
  23. Thought Venus looked very relaxed, almost serene, on the bench today. The demeanour of a bloke about to come into a sizeable nest egg, you might say...
