Cricket
onlyonejackwalker replied to Blue n White Rover's topic in I Can't Believe It's Not Football
Why did it take until the shit was truly hitting the fan for us to start playing attritional cricket? We lost 6 wickets in 32 overs. Then Stoke and Jacks put on 96 in 37 overs. Stokes scored 50 from 150, Jacks 41 from 92. They survived 3 hours, left a lot alone, only drove at half volleys, played mostly on the floor. I don't agree this is a poor Australian team. We aren't seriously testing them and they've got gears to go up in my view. This is the culmination of two or three years of sloppy, slapdash cricket. You can't suddenly refine your technique against the very best. It was probably worth the gamble trying to transport one day cricket into the test arena. But enough is enough. Th8s series is over afyer 6 days of cricket. Its been entertaining at times, but only because Root has dug in and rescued us time and time again. Fail to prepare, prepare to fail. .... Well done to Crawley this test. He is obviously not an opener, but the test selectors know better than me. I don't dislike him as a batsmen, just hate him opening. I'd love to see him at 5 or 6 against tired bowlers and an older ball. If his aversge still remained at 30, then bin him for good. Robin Smith averaged nearly 50 in home tests and over 40 when jettisoned. Because he struggled against spin. Why not give him 30 extra tests to work it out? What a bad decision that was, poor bloke. RIP big man. -

Getting beaten in that manner isn’t entertaining to me, nah! For me though, there’s a middle ground to be had between a Geoff Boycott style innings and Bazball. It’s the basics we do well that are the most costly in my view- in terms of dropping catches and getting out to shots we should be leaving well alone, anyway.

Spot on!! they won’t care or know they have nothing to do with the club now players will be sold regardless but this now gives rudy etc a reason to justify selling the players we have and not reinvesting, they will use this pitch drainage situation as a problem “we “ have to fix internally infact has rudy ever mentioned or made reference to the owners? Not like when Big T chose not to “go begging “ for transfer funds yet had regular conversations with the owners- do they even know who rudy is This is so painful that it’s funny and frustrating at the same time what a joke of a club we have become under these cretins -

Those fans want the best for the club and the fans going/not going, same as you. Its not acceptable for people to be let down because of under funding from the club, who knew they needed to do something. You dont deserve a medal. Respect, yes. Its the club that let the fans down, (like yourself) not the other way round. As for not having a clue how it feels, do me a favour. The feeling is all to familiar. -

Funny if it was local weather that got them out. Despite all the fanfare of the so called coalition, have all the non Venky apologists finally been worn down into begrudging but supine acceptance? -

I've always been a big believer in communication; at times like this, silence is probably the worst thing you can do. Be honest, open and have a plan. All of those things are gaping holes at Ewood these days.

No, the highlight was that glorious goal he scored at Birmingham, last game of the season 2 or 3 years back. Alas it was a outlier. -

I mean, look, I've got nothing against Bucko... but the highlight of his time here was probably when he bounced the ball off that bloke's head and got sent off for it. Makes about as much sense as Gordon Greer being included in a "Rovers Legends" team. -

We now have a 'rainy season' apparently. Used to just be winter and a pretty wet part of the world to begin with. Here's my solution: Club statement tomorrow from the owners or at least the boss at Ewood: 'We want to apologise to our fans, players, Sheffield Wednesday, Ipswich Town and the League. What has happened twice this season is unacceptable for a club of our stature and we have a responsibility to take action to ensure it doesn't happen again. We are employing specialists to immediately investigate and report on the issues and remedial work that can be completed both in the immediate future and at the end of the season to resolve this issue. As a gesture of goodwill all fans turning up to the replay will get a free drink/pie/chips and ticket holders for the original game will get free admission for the replay. Tickets otherwise will be £10 anywhere in the ground. This club and our fans deserve better and we apologize for the embarrassment this has brought and to the players for their wasted efforts' That took me 2-3 minutes. Yet it's far more than this lot will do.
