Most Coventry City fans see the parallels between their time with SISU to our ownership with the Raos. They went as low as League 2, and commuting to Northampton. These fans are sympathetic. -

JDT i think followed a very old school approach to man management and there was definitely some bone headed arrogance in there. 'The manager is ALWAYS right' even when he clearly isn't. That rubbed up a few of our lot who'd had a comfortable existence under uncle Tony but it also got the best out of a few others. Rather Souness type management imo who himself was rather inflexible in formations and style even when it was proving detrimental. Also needed good players and good budgets to do what he wanted to do. Trouble is in Jon's case he was a Head Coach and not a manager and in modern times it's different and requires a different approach. I still think he'll go on to have more success in his career though if he gets the right gig. -
We're going off topic, but no one is suggesting Britain or the rest of the western world are in any way perfect, and we are indeed in many ways profiting off the misery countries like Saudi Arabia inflicts on others. I would love for PL clubs and others to show a minimum amout of backbone and say no to money and sponsorships from them, for example. However, Britain and most other places in the western world are not dictatorships with state sanctioned slave labor, murdered journalists, jailed and tortured dissidents, and women being rightsless wards of their husbands. In these matters it's morally wrong to stay silent and mumble something about getting out own house in order first, and even worse to help these dictatorships clean up their public image by going there and playing football like it's a nation like any other, just because the money's good. By your logic, when is it accpetable to have an opinion on how other nations conduct their bussiness? I assume you would have had a problem with Soviet Russia or Nazi Germany, for example?

That’s not how it worked in my opinion. Reg wore the old number 8 and Andy wore Bryan’s number 10 My impression of Reg that day was he was exactly what he was. A player Everton let go as a young player, then made a bit of his name for himself at 4 th Division Southport. His ability was a level or two below the old First Division. My abiding memory of him that day was of a golden chance falling to him in the Darwen End in the second half. I’d made my way back to that end at half time. When the chance came he was really slow to get a shot away and his attempt was blocked. He did well at Oldham when we let him go but I think that was his level -

Have to agree. I remember absolutely fuming after that match - not the fact we lost, but the fact we barely laid a glove on them and didn't look up for it at all. JDT's lack of apology - I think he actually called it just another game - was galling. -
My recollection is that Reg Blore played as a direct replacement for Douglas and had a blinder. He only played a handful more games and never came anywhere near reaching the heights of that debut.

150th Anniversary kit/celebrations
StHelensRover replied to Proudtobeblue&white's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
If it isn't blue and white halves then I give up. No one cares if the very first kit the team ever ran out in wasn't blue and white halves, there's probably no surviving photos and it means very little. We've played in blue and white halves for more than 99% of the club's history, we're known for it, the kit stands alone in the modern British game. It's one of the last remaining unique and beautiful things about the club after 15 years of being laughing stocks. If they insist on the Maltese cross, then I can go along with that as there is some limited historical evidence of it appearing on blue and white shirts and it bears some relevance to the club founders. Would maybe have been better going with either the town crest or an artistic/tasteful rendition of a red rose (not AI slop) Let's film the team wearing it while fighting over a plate of fried chicken again. Edit- just another thought, if it is all white, will be add extra hilarity to the fact the anniversary match is against Derby. They have all our players and manager, we'll wear their kit. -

If I’d have been JDT I would have sincerely and profusely apologised for a complete no show in the biggest game of the season right after the game. The fact that he didn’t consider it necessary told me he either didn’t realise the importance of the game, which is really bad for any manager of our club, or he was too arrogant to admit he’d ballsed up big time. Maybe it was a case of both. I never felt the same about him after that game. He lost me there and then. My Rugby League team appointed a new Australian coach. At a “ Meet The Coach “ event he asked for questions at the end of his little speech. One guy stood and said “ Just two things Steve, beat Oldham, and beat Oldham ! “ We played Oldham in the traditional pre-season “ Friendly “ known as “ The Infirmary’s Cup “. Not just because players ended up in the Infirmary afterwards but plenty did over the years. The new coach treated it as pre season run out and subbed players left right and centre. Just to give all the players some game time. Oldham didn’t and they won convincingly. That coach was on borrowed tine as far as the fans were concerned from that day on. He didn’t last long. -

100%...that goes for owners, agents...and representatives of protest groups too! I am just curious, as it may indicate that player(s) were particularly upset/ shocked/astounded by that particularly perverse team selection? -
Upon reflection and to target the main forum members who remember with fondness the 1970s and the 1980s these will now be split into two sections. Part Five: The Seventies and Eighties - 1970 - 1980 (12th November - 19th November) Part Six: The Eighties and Three Points Era - 1980-1992 (19th November - 26th November) So 9 parts in total leading us up to the full list reveal in time for Christmas and the conclusion of our 150th celebrations.

Yeah he got a hat trick that day. He ran their big money signing Scottish international centre half Ian Ure ragged. I remember one of them clearly. Again I was right behind the goals at the Blackburn End. Fred had a shot a goal but he kicked the ground as much he kicked the ball. It just rolled towards Jim Furnell in the Arsenal goal who inexplicably let the ball go through his legs. The ball just made it over the line. Andy Mac stood in for Dougie that day and he was brilliant. We never missed Bryan. Reg Blore stood in for Andy. I was standing behind the Darwen End goals before the kick off. When Rovers started playing towards the Blackburn End I was making my way along the Riverside to get behind the Blackburn End goals when Arsenals Joe Baker raced through the middle of our defence to slot the ball past Fred Else in the Rovers goal. That must have been after 2 or 3 minutes. I thought “ We’re going to be up against it today. “. Little did I know. We just went out and battered a very good Arsenal team. Fred was unstoppable that day. When he was in the mood he was Shearer level without a doubt. I consider myself blessed to have seen that team play at their best. They were a goal scoring machine when they were in the mood. They just demolished teams. No team since has been quite as entertaining. -

Whatever the rights and wrongs of the selection decision no club or manager can be expected to tolerate agents attempting to influence team selections. -

Yes, it was perverse. It's like he was making some point. "This derby not matter to me.." And there were some pretty poor selections and performances that day. Am I right in thinking that one of the Whartons' agents went in to see JDT about the omission?
