feeling worried now. personally, i do think we may have tapped him up, although this isn't unlike what other clubs do. however, given how much this has been played out in the press, should birm actually report us, will we get hit with a points deduction?! god forbid this from happening... please!

Have we tapped him up? I have my doubts, we have seen many many instances of this type played out in the press before, it happens constantly. No one else complains of tapping up, nothing ever happens.

If Rovers have then it is a stupid move, I do however think we are smarter than that. Likely sour grapes from Birmingham.

I suspect the shipping of Bruce's son to Oldham slap bang in the middle of this thing has an underlying motive though.

Sullivan even wants Blackburn’s telephone records to be put before the Premier League as proof of their “blatant attempts” to unsettle the Welsh star.

YES Rovers are guilty, I can confirm that the Rovers have used their telephone in an attempt to sign Savage.

For Pete sake, how can Sullivan come out with such a comment, when his own Chief Executive has openly complained a week or so ago that she ripped up a faxed offer from Rovers as it was derisory.

Rovers have rejected a bid from Birmingham for Paul Dickov, with Rovers Chief Executive, John Williams, stating: "We rejected the approach and Paul also made it clear that he was very happy here and had no intention of leaving"

In the meantime, Birmingham Managing Director Karen Brady has called a reported bid from Rovers for Robbie Savage "derisory".

Media sources including the BBC web site are reporting that Rovers have offered £500,000 up front for the Welsh midfielder, with the fee rising to £2.2m. However the Birmingham MD is reported as saying that the bid was a waste of fax paper and that Savage was not for sale.

This is the BBC take on the story of Brum's complaint.

I wonder whether Rovers should refer Birmingham's approaches to David Dunn if Brum actually do go down the road of filing a formal complaint?

After all, one of our insiders reported that Dunn had received a Birmingham City shirt from Steve Bruce a long time before the transfer window opened and before Dunn rejected the improved contract terms from Rovers.

Personally, I am a little puzzled as to why Savage has suddenly become so keen to get out of St Andrews. Usually in these circumstances, there is an element of pushing as well as the disgruntled employee walking.

Nothing has happened yet to alter the suppositions in my previous post!

Obviously he has spoken to Mark Hughes without Birmingham's consent but im sure he will still be in contact with Hughes from his time as wales boss. Its nothing illegal about Hughes telling him he is looking to sign Sav.

The only bit i dont like is the fact that they are stressing that any bid will be turned down.

They obviously didnt tap Dickov up coz he said thanks, but no thanks. laugh.gif

It's ludicrous for Savage to try to justify moving to Rovers on the grounds of being "closer to his family", when the distance time is hardly any different.

1. When has he ever tried to justify moving to Rovers?

2. What is "distance time"?

Back to school for AESF!

I spent about 30 mins looking up the distance he would travel, it look pretty much the same

check through the thread, someone probably Alan75 actually worked out the travel time

i think it was 1 hr 40 mins from birmingham and 1hr and 31 mins Blackburn

Not a great guy, but if he does the job on the pitch then I really don't mind what he is like off it, and I have a feeling that he would be good for our team. Plus, remember that has much as we are working on rumours and stories, Hughes knows the man, so obviously there can't be that much wrong with him.

Still not convinced he's the man for us. He just seems so overpriced. Big wage, big transfer sum, average player.

But with Savage, he can pick a pass out, run around all game with pace and score.

Savages' profile

He's never been known for his goalscoring. 24 goals in ten seasons. Bet Flitty's done that.

Over did Savage's goal-scoring ability.

But compared to Flitcroft in recent games, could Flitty do what Savage has done?

Savage played in a brilliant cross for Heskey to score, I think, on Boxing Day at home to Boro.

Could Flitty score a goal like Savage did on Tuesday at Fulham?

All I'm saying is, that I'd rather have Savage over Flitcroft becaus, generally he's a lot quicker and that his final pass/delivery is a lot better than Flitty's in my opinion.

ITV take of the subject: clicky states categorically "Blackburn chief executive John Williams told The Sun: "As far as we are concerned we made an official approach that was rejected - and that is as far as it has gone."

so I don't see how they can prove otherwise - JW is too canny to fall for that one smile.gif

Everyone knows Mark Bowen's his best mate so no doubt they would possibly have talked about it in an unofficial way.

I'm fed up with all this bleating from Birmingham, why don't they just shut up about it as they say they don't want to sell him.

I'm more concerned about keeping Bazza and Bert out of Souness's clutches come the transfer window. mad.gif

Same here.

After the Newcastle game when Souness was interviewed he had something about him suggesting buying clubs' best players, I couldn't help thinking he was after Barry.

Newcastle agree deal for Boumsong

Just found this.

Blues accuse Rovers over Savage

Souness is splashing FF's dosh in a big way.

After Babaryaro (undisclosed but the guy is on contract so unlikely to be less than £2m), he has clinched Boumsong for £8m. Thankfully McLeish watched Newcastle ands didn't fancy taking of the existing bar codes in part exchange so cash it is.

The Newcastle war chest is variously reported to be £10m or £20m. If the former, Souey has to start selling to buy any more. If the latter, he is not going to be able to buy a decent forward and Fergie with what is left. He is rumoured to have offered £5m for Morientes.

The other good news is Rangers now need a central defender (Amo?). Presumably the Ibrox mob can now afford to offer the rumoured £7.5m for Fergie which would set a price hurdle that Souness is unlikely to jump.

Tell you what I’m sick to the back teeth of listening to the three stooges at Birmingham complain day in day out about how unprofessional Blackburn Rovers are and how they don't want to sell Savage.

STOP CONDUCTING YOUR BUSINESS THROUGH THE BLOODY SUN THEN YOU IDIOTS!

"If Blackburn want Savage they'll have to pay the asking price"

Does that sound like a 'club' that doesn't want to sell Robbie Savage?

A club that doesn't want to sell its prized asset, like Paul Dickov for instance says:

"He doesn't want to leave and we don't want to sell, end of story"

It’s clear that Birmingham will sell Savage but want an inflated price for him or they wouldn't continue to stoke the fires through the media day in day out.

Maybe now they know just how Crystal Palace felt when they tapped up both Mr Loyal Steve Bruce and Clinton Morrison.

Hopes for 2005? Souness to get sacked and Bruce to take his place.

one good thing about Savage is he can actually take free kicks, i know insane, but he scored this season with a beauty from 20 yards. (where as Ferguson has been struggling to get it over the wall)

Recently he's been taking free kick and pens regularly, I don't exactly remember when someone decided he was a free kick and penalty specialist but its certainly a positive, it must have been something he's been working hard on in the last 2-3 years

Do we really need this average player

Yes.

I was never his biggest fan, and never wanted us to sign him, but I do now. He gives us bite in midfield, and as chris says, he can score goals too now. When did we last score direct from a free-kick?

If he's average then I'd like a whole team of average please.
