JAL Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 I was there, but Andrews drifted in too often try to help out in the middle leaving Simpson exposed. And Derbyshire isn't exactly great at defending. Who's fault is it though? The managers ! Agree with ParsonBlues assessment hes championship material at best and I think Man Uniteds FOURTH choice right back at best. Hes simply not good enough along with a few others.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 Er JAL, I never said it wasn't the managers fault. But I can see why he did it. Either way, it showed us what we shouldn't do next time, didn't it?
AndyC Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 simpson was a huge disappointment for me yesterday. out of position a fair bit and hardly any attacking threat. i'd have bert back there in an instant. and there was nothing wrong with andrews yesterday - I thought he played very well in the first 45 and was unlucky to be subbed. I'd rather have seen him take off the axe and move him to his central midfield position.
Tris Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Sorry Hughesy, but I agree with Scotty's view on this. Not being biased, but Emu is our best team option as RB. Not since poor old Rod kicked the bucket ...
Mozzer Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 as much as this guy gives 100% i dont think he is good enough for us.. he doesnt have the quality and i think either emerton or ooijer should be moved there-until we buy a right back in january.. for a man utd player i thought he would of been better...
dingles staying down 4ever Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Agree with ADB that Simpson was left exposed at times but with a defensive midfielder, the Axe and Warnock in midfield there should have been more than an ample cover for him if Andrews drifted from his right sided position. The first Sunderland substitution showed how much Simpson was struggling when they brought on a specialised left winger in Reid onto expose the problem and stretch Rovers width ways. Did Rovers react? Yes and made matters worse. I for once agree with JAL and say it is the manager's fault not to see a problem developing and not making things better. The substitution that was clear at the time of the first Rovers change would have been:- simpson off - Ooijer to RB - Warnock to LB - Tugay on plus anybody and I mean anybody one for Roberts. To conclude Simpson is not good enough, come January send him back to Old Trafford.
broadsword Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Chrissy price! What a player! and only £25k from Hereford, wasn't he (first time around).
kinney Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 the sooner we get emerton back on the right the better. earlier on in the season, i thought he was ok. recently hes been a bit hopeless, if u cant defend against andy reid, then your guna struggle in the prem. we need tugay in the middle, hes just a class act. we need to remember that the guy is 38, as much as he is a class player, we cant rely on him every week.
gazsimm Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Simpson is not good enough, i would rather have Oojier playing at Right back then him. He is too weak and just hoofs the ball up front every time the ball comes near him.
AussieinUk Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 When we get a new manager in, I firmly believe that we close the loan deal on Simpson, to force the issue of Emerton playing at RB (with Oojier as backup) and then highlighting the urgent need of filling the RM/RW role...
Guest Vinjay606 Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Never wanted a player contracted to them here in the first place. Good news.
LeChuck Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Apart from being reasonably fast I was never too sure what he had to his game. He'll probably end up in the Championship next year and he'll be very lucky if his career gets any better than that. Slowly but surely the memories of Ince's regime are disappearing, which can only be a good thing.
T4E Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 If he doesn't play for Ipswich next season I'll be very surprised. Agreed on the Ince point. Remember Ray Matthias? Shudder.
deryck guyler's spoon Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 It is hard to believe this lad is a United player. Not for much longer I'd imagine, sadly for him. Not Premier League class.
Billy Castell Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Does anyone think Simpson is like a younger version of Callum Davidson or David Curtis? Once highly rated, but will probably end up a first division journeyman.
Bazzanotsogreat Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 If he doesn't play for Ipswich next season I'll be very surprised. Agreed on the Ince point. Remember Ray Matthias? Shudder. What; tactics & team selection on the back of a fag-packet Matthias
JAL Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 It is hard to believe this lad is a United player. Not for much longer I'd imagine, sadly for him. Not Premier League class. Highly debatable if hes championship class either.
Amo Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Does anyone think Simpson is like a younger version of Callum Davidson or *David Curtis? Once highly rated, but will probably end up a first division journeyman. John Curtis?
Blue blood Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Don't think Simpson is as good as Curtis or Davidson tbh. Curtis did well in the championship for us and the following season in the league cup. Davidson looked quite promising barring injuries. Simpson has looked neither promising or put in any decent performances. Bit suprised we've got rid of him before the end of the season (even if Ooijer is miles better than him) as it'd only take one or two injuries for him to be getting a game.
Billy Castell Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Always call him David Curtis for some reason. No idea why. I'll call him Tony or Richard later.
John Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Showed glimpses that he possessed some talent. However, overall he was dam right awful and simply not good enough. I remember Paul Ince last summer saying right back would be his priority signing.... sums it all up....
