joey_big_nose Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 There must be something very wrong with him to be injured this much. He's clearly in no condition whatsoever to play a professional sport. Injured during a warm up ffs. The worst thing is, the longer he's out, the bigger his supposed "influence" on us will become, until he comes back and shows that he's actually not THAT good and then gets injured or sent off once again to compound our disappointment. A bit harsh. He is clearly decent enough a player. Not quite as good as Savage (although he passes the ball better). However learly he is clearly finished at Rovers now, what the supporters should be looking to is Linganzi and Basturk who have something to offer this season and (hopefully for Basturk) next. Grella has been a terrible signing, made all the more worse by the prevalence of his injury record prior to Rovers. You can point to Santa Cruz as an injury prone player we got a lot out of, but apart from him are there any other examples?

deryck guyler's spoon Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Like a few others on here I like Grella but getting injured warming up for the ressies on top of everything else with him has gone beyond an effing joke. Would it be possible for us to save a few quid in the long run and offer him a lump of dosh up front by way of paying off his contract?
neekoy Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 I think it comes down to the treatment table professionals.
Majiball Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Wrap the guy up in cotton wool, and pray he makes the world cup. Hopefully he plays a few games there and does well and that Russian team come back in for him. We desperately have to shift our crocks of the wage bill asap this summer, as it must be costing us 10's of thousands a week in wages, which we just cannot afford. People speak highly about our fitness team and our physio's but even they can't sort him out. So I'm sorry for the betterment of Rovers we have to shift them on somehow. Imagine what we could do with all the money we save in wages and treatment, we could get in at least two bosmans and we'd be much stronger.
Hughesy Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Based on league games..... Emerton - 15 starts (subbed in 5) - on as sub 3 Dunn - 12 starts (subbed in 5) - on as a sub 1 Reid - 1 start - 3 on as sub Grella - 8 starts (subbed in 1) - on as sub 4 3 other players who contribute little: Zurab - 0 games Brown - 0 games Rigters - 0 games So realistically - Reid, Zurab, Brown & Rigters need to go as they contribute nothing.... Whilst Dunn has started more games than Grella, they have only both last 7 full games each - with Emerton lasting 10!

jim mk2 Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Does anyone know what the injury was?? Passing gnat brushed his leg requiring major reconstructive surgery.
broadsword Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 It's just not funny any more (if it ever was), and questions do need to be asked given the amount of investment he's taken up out of our limited budget. - Who did the medical (Dr Nick?) and what did it consist of (holding his nutsack and getting him to cough)? - What investigations have been done to get to the root cause of his series of injuries? There must be some common thread that unites all these occurrences, it's now happened so often that it cannot be bad luck. - If investigated, what can be done in terms of pre-hab - What was his appearance record like before he joined Rovers? Won't get answers to any of those, but I needed to get that off my chest. I'm surprised anyone knows what he looks like, he's the b*stard invisible man!
wandel77 Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 I was thinking is it possible to be more injured than Reid ??
broadsword Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Yeah, thought if I kept on making the gag, someone would laugh in the end. Maybe.

From experience as a player I can tell you its gutting to keep picking up knocks, you want to play, I do know Vince really wants to play and show what he can do,my mate in Aus says he really can play too and I liken his game also to Batty, the way he wins the ball, plays a pass and drops into the available space. Its either bad luck or something to do with our training methods as there do appear to be all different kinds of injuries, I asked earlier wht his injury was this time and cant seenm to find out! It may just be a precaution to prevent further problems, I dont know.
super_arran Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Get him on the Ledley King training diet. Just let him train lightly then play him once every 2 weeks...sorted
Tim Southampton Rover Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Big Sam should just tell him to forget about this season, give him 4 months off doing completely nothing and then hopefully his body will be able to recover 100%.
Exiled_Rover Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 No, Sam should have him sent to specialists to work out what the hell is wrong with him. He's incredibly fragile.
chaddyrovers Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 I think it's time he's was sold. He will be on big wages and cost 4 million pounds. Time to cut our loss now before we can't sell him. Personally i think we should go for Annan of Rosenberg. Suppose Mark Hughes wanted to sign him before he left and Ince was interest but instead we went for Grella. Grella would be a good player in Germany or Frence. Cant keep after loads of injured midfield players.
LeChuck Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Grella would be a good player in Germany or Frence. Not if he can't get on the pitch he won't. It's probably best all round if we put him down.
Inta Beaver Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Not if he can't get on the pitch he won't. It's probably best all round if we put him down. The recycle bin is the way nowadays!
BRFC1995 Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 i feel its like being locked in a phone contract only to find you get no service where you live, he's a complete waste of money for someone you get no use out of......smaller clubs can't afford crocks but i imagine old gordon taylor at the pfa would pitch a fit if we put injury clauses in contracts allowing us to terminate or slash wages. It would'nt be quite as frustrating if he was a great player but he is so run of the mill average it ain't true and someone needs sueing as regards negotiating a 4m fee, a 39 year old tugay on 40 fags a day would run circles round this crock of...........
BRFC1995 Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 No sympathy for him then? he's a multi millionaire, don't think he's dying, and i'll guess all his family are happy and healthy...........why would i feel sympathy i'm well within my rights to be quite resentful and bitter more so towards the clown that bought him but i try to forget he was ever here, would be quite nice for all his signings to go and then i can completely wipe all traces of that person ever being here from my mind. I think he's a lucky tw"t more than anything earning fortunes for doing nowt, not good enough, miles off the pace, only going to get more injured in the future and anyone who thinks we will see a transfer fee ever for him is in cloud cuckoo land the best we could ever hope for is some crazy desperate team not in need of any pace in midfield taking his contract over. I would bet heavily that if we are not his last club before retirement his next would be some lower than conference standard aussie team, zero potential future sell on fee........wash hands bad mistake.

It's a shame because when I've seen him he's been one of our best players.
47er Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Doesn't Grella still live in London? How's that work then? Surely extra travel won't help?
jim mk2 Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Doesn't Grella still live in London? Ludicrous. Is this true ?
