budha Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 It's interesting where they would play VdV. If their current best midfield is Bale, Modric, Huddlestone and Lennon, where does the Dutch go? To the bench with Krancjar, Palacios and Jenas. They'd probably have to revert to playing just one striker if they're to play him with Modric and Bale in the midfield or throw their best asset Bale back to left back, move Modric to left wing and partner VdV with Huddlestone if they want to continue with 4-4-2.

Backroom DE. Posted September 1, 2010 Backroom Posted September 1, 2010 I suppose it's a good signing for Spurs but not one they really needed. I don't think VDV has the sufficient quality to push them to 'the next level' and the 18M Harry claims Bayern were going to pay for him would have been daylight robbery. Assumedly Bayern saw sense or never actually bid that in the first place. A good addition, perhaps, but not one that will greatly improve Spurs IMO.
The Rover of Finland Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Van der Vaart isn´t a striker or CM either. He likes to operate between there. Spurs has to change their formation to get best of him. Always a huge gamble but if everything goes well it was the transfer of this window.
neekoy Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 I think it is great buy from Spurs as much as I hate them and everything to do with them. VDV is a class act. I don't know why they got special dispensation though?
Sandman Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 The van der Vaart deal is beneficial for all football fans in this country, we'll all get to see more of his missus now.
philipl Posted September 2, 2010 Author Posted September 2, 2010 Crowds at Spurs reserves games are going to increase then.
Hughesy Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Wonder if he will be in the running for Villa??? Would cause a storm.... Birmingham boss Alex McLeish has had a major falling out with the board over his new contract demands. Full story: Daily Mail

Would be a huge story but Villa could do a lot lot worse.

Always a huge gamble but if everything goes well it was the transfer of this window. A change of shape really wouldn't suit Defoe, he can't play in anything other than a 4-4-2. Given that their whole game at the moment is about speedy wing play, I can't see them using a diamond either. One of their major players is going to be disrupted if VDV is squeezed into the team.
Mattyblue Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 It is so typically English to close the window at 6 so people don't have to work overtime.... You're confusing us with the French.
philipl Posted September 2, 2010 Author Posted September 2, 2010 Villa fans seem quite favourable towards Eck.
gumboots Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 You're confusing us with the French. Theirs didn't close till midnight.
mhead Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 In the light of the Pakistan Cricket fiasco and the 'no balls' and only talking hypothetically, there was one score-line on Saturday that was a complete shock Away 'win'. The team that lost have a 'wide-guy' manager as well. Thought it stunk a bit.
American Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 You're confusing us with the French. Funny, because when I'm in on Saturdays, the only ones in the office are me and a French guy in accounting....
Tom 1 Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 Starting to seem as though Gerard Houllier will be either the new Villa manager or the Director of football assisting Kevin MacDonald as manager. Odd, interesting, but v.odd. Complete turnaround from the style of backroom when MON was here, MON being in complete dictator style control.

Was the majority of Villa fans against Bradley?
Tom 1 Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 You happy with that Tom? Was the majority of Villa fans against Bradley? Er I dunno really, frankly I am just so irritated with how long it's all taken I just want to have a manager! Think everyone was set against Bob Bradley, I really didn't want him after having a serious think(at one stage I was thinking it might be a worthy risk), and I think it shows how false it all was in that he said he'd be honoured to be our manager then signs an extension with the US, smacks of us not being interested in him. Rightfully so imo. As for Houllier/MacDonald. I like most don't want to lose MacDonald from the club, he's been here for a very long time and his work with the young players is fantastic, he's brought some of them on v.well, I don't want us to just ignore his wishes in this and lose a dedicated servant, it's bad enough that MON ran off with our chief scout the little speccy arse. It's tough, I just think of it like this, Houllier for whatever faults and bad signings he made at Pool at least had a level of success, he won things, he has some success on his c.v here in England. If Kevin MacDonald was happy with the arrangement, and they both fully understood and agreed to how it would work, then yeah I think in a scenario where Moyes becomes impossible then I would take a Houllier and MacDonald partnership. As for Houllier stand alone, he's an old man now, 62 years old I think, and he has had heart problems, i'd be wary about throwing him into the big job. Donadoni has applied, ex-italy manager, but I don't fancy him coming tbh.
Backroom DE. Posted September 4, 2010 Backroom Posted September 4, 2010 NOTW: Rooney Beds Prostitute The story is hardly a shocker, but £1,000 a night for that? Wow. Some amusing quotes from the article... "I think he believes he's invincible and untouchable. As a woman, I wouldn't like that done to me - especially if I was pregnant." "I never imagined Wayne Rooney would ever be one of my clients. I know a lot of people call him Shrek but he's actually not that ugly when you're sat in front of him." Michael Owen was looking at him in disgust. This one will rumble for a while, but I'm sure Crouch is glad he'll be out of the spotlight now.

Oh well! how much was he worth, If Tiger is anything to go by he kiss good bye to a sweet amount.
Baz Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Carragher critical of Souness. Carraghers a thick, grade A, overated prize muppet.

According to that article he met her in the same casino Bellamy11 assaulted Steven N'Zonzi in earlier this year. I'm not sure that place is really safe for Premier League footballers.
