unluckymorton Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Just heard you are a Rovers fan, and an adult. I don't believe that for one minute. I've never been a big fan of Chimbonda, but I wasn't a fan of Diouf before he came, and Savage before that. They both grew on me and proved me wrong and I'm hoping Chimbonda does the same. I think It's another good signing by Sam. I'll get behind any player wearing a Rovers shirt, and I am sure ribblevalleyrover will too, we all just differ in our opinions.

tcj_jones Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 A very prudent signing from Sam. If Emerton, Jacobsen, Salgado, Reid and Andrews were all to become injured at the same time, then Chimbonda will be there to fill in at RB, where we are, undoubtedly, down to the bare-bones. Sarcasm aside, he is good RB. However, we have four hundred of them already. He'd better be a good CB or LB, otherwise I really don't see the point in this signing, especially for between £1.5m - £2.5m, which is the price that had been bandied around. What makes it worse is that we are also losing one of our best players in the process. If we get this Yebda guy for midfield, and providing he is good, then I suppose it won't have been so bad a decision to sell Stevie. But this summer has left me very depressed, especially after seeing Kalinic in the flesh If we ever have to rely on Olsson as a first teamer in the Premier League, then God help us all!
Hughesy Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 You bring your Dioufy in, your Pascal out In, out, in, out They share their girls about They both play for the rovers and they fook around Thats what its all about..............
G Somerset Rover Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Heard the same, allegedly they share girlfriends quite often, now't wrong in that, hope to meet them soon a maybe get an invite. Waggy grow up. I wouldn't worry about that, Coley and Yorkey used to do that and look how they turned out together at Rovers...oh wait.
rover6 Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Well.... what a bloated squad. Surely the size of our squad is not sustainable? Makes me wonder where everyone is going to fit in. People were saying that 7 subs would open up the chance for young players. Well, now were seeing that managers are adjusting, bloating up their squads in the knowledge that they can line up their experienced pros on the 7 man bench. Sad, imo. AS for Chimbonda - good player. But why? We have Emerton who is a good right back. Jacobson too has looked good. Salgado..... Don't really get it.
tcj_jones Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Sam must have Chimbonda in mind for LB and cover at CB, Emerton in mind for CM/RM and Salgado and Jacobsen to compete for RB. Obviously I agree though, the size of our squad is quite ridiculous, and the likes of Salgado and Chimbonda must be on pretty hefty wages.
Parsonblue Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 AS for Chimbonda - good player. But why? We have Emerton who is a good right back. Jacobson too has looked good. Salgado..... Don't really get it. Emerton and Salgado will be destined for midfield roles while Chimbonda can cover all along the back line as well as right-back.
DP Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Chmibonda may be better than what we've already got.... but..... we've already got. For a club that supposedly needs to watch every penny it does seem a bit strange that we're happy to chuck 1.5 mill so we can have 4 right backs at the club instead of 3. Or is that 5 now? Also if we sell our leftback I would like to replace him with a leftback.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Couldn't have put it better myself. He's a good player to sign BUT do we really need another player in the same position as 3 others? I feel sorry for Lars Jacobsen. He's signing assuming to be competiting for the right back slot with Emerton. Now he's got competition from Salgado and now Chimbonda. Personally I'd rather sign a midfielder with the money spent on them but as usual i'm always willing to trust the manager BUT if it goes wrong then signing too many in one position and not in other positions could be a key reason why.
Amo Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 As already posted, Salgado and Emerton could be lined up for midfield roles. It doesn't hurt to have a versatile squad.
LeChuck Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 If Sam's comments on SSN today are to be believed (no truth in the Taylor rumour, no more signings) then Chimbonda will definitely be playing left back.
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 27, 2009 Author Posted August 27, 2009 If Sam's comments on SSN today are to be believed (no truth in the Taylor rumour, no more signings) then Chimbonda will definitely be playing left back. If thats the case who would you rather have at left back? Warnock or Chimbonda. Definitely weaker in that position.
Presty On Tour Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Emerton and Salgado will be destined for midfield roles while Chimbonda can cover all along the back line as well as right-back. I agree with this and also I think Sam has a lot of faith in our young Swede while Givet is playing in central defense.

sambo Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 ince got slated for playing players out of position, yet it;s ok for lardarse Players have more than one position.. Emerton for one has always been a midfielder by trade. Ince played players in random positions, at Wigan it was the most random team selection I had seen by the end of the game.
spencey7 Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 In which case nobody would dare express an opinion! Haven't you heard? You take your very life in your hands doing that around here! Unless it's: A ) Sam is awesome B ) Results will improve C ) Everything will be fine I don't think Chimbonda is the worst signing possible, but as a direct replacement for Warnock - and with £4m+ yet again disappearing into the ether - the fans are being cheated once again.
Exiled in Toronto Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 I was very impressed with Chimbonda at Wigan, he looked athletic and good on the ball. His career has gone down the pan somewhat since then, but hopefully he can return to his early form. I thought Diouff was a good, pacy winger as well, but I've been disappointed with him - so who knows how Chimbonda will turn out? Agree on both counts: would like the Wigan Chimbonda but am still waiting for the Bolton Diouff to arrive
vyeo Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 I'm quite baffled by the signing. If Sam's has Chimbonda and/or Salgado lined up as first choice left back, I cant help but think back to our days when we had neill playing there - out of position. I'm not a believer of square pegs in round holes, and would be much happier if a we'd replaced warnock with a proper left back. I'd be happier with Shorey to be honest. In any case, if Chimbonda plays right back, I'm equally baffled. Why do we need 3 specialist right backs? I'm a Sam supporter, but I really wonder how he's going to balance the squad because it sure looks rather imbalanced right now. And, the biggest problem - midfield - has still not been addressed. Very very baffling.

budha Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 If thats the case who would you rather have at left back? Warnock or Chimbonda. Definitely weaker in that position. If Warnock doesn't want to stay, what can Rovers do? Force him to play and watch his value plummet? We need to sell when the iron is at it's hottest to survive.
den Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 If Warnock doesn't want to stay, what can Rovers do? Use the money to bring in a left back and quality central midfielder. - Not spend £1.5m on a predominantly right footed player and bank the rest - along with a lot of the other £40/50m brought in since last summer.
Eddie Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 If, and this is a big IF, our spending really is done for the summer then I have to really question what Allardyce is doing. Sell your first choice left-back and bring in a right-back when you've already signed two of those this summer? Makes no sense.
Kelbo Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 If, and this is a big IF, our spending really is done for the summer then I have to really question what Allardyce is doing. Sell your first choice left-back and bring in a right-back when you've already signed two of those this summer? Makes no sense. It only makes no sense because we are unaware of Sams thoughts or intentions as to who plays and the system we play!!! I was speaking yesterday to a Dingle fan who happens also to be a UEFA B license coach as well, he told me we have little chance of being relegated with Allardyce as he is a top man and really knows what he is doing!! Time will tell, but we look at a situation and cant see the whole picture because we dont know what that picture is!! Just a big point on Chimbonda here, I know he is 30 but he is far quicker than any of our back four, could that change the thoughts on here, we have been skinned for pace a few times, he is also pretty quick going forward too!! Just a few thoughts!!
tcj_jones Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 I agree with the poster who says that selling Warnock and bringing in Chimbonda has left us far weaker in defence. If not because of quality (Warnock being a far better player), then because Chimbonda is a right footed RB, not a LB or a CB. I'd have preferred Shorey to be included in the deal and to have got less cash.
rebelmswar Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Next Game Givet, Nelsen, Samba, Chimbonda I very much like the look of that.
