[Archived] Martin Olsson

Recommended Posts

Yes, Martin was amazing in his debut today against Bosnia. Came on in the 66th min and scored after only two minutes on the pitch to make it 2-1 and then made 3-1 with a clinical finish. It's almost too good to be true but we have a real player at rovers in Martin Olsson, a swedish international.

Nice another young lad progressing very fast and seems very happy at ewood.

I hate saying this, But dont they all seem to be that?

If he will progress the same way he has done this season he will prolly heading somewehere else soon, sad but true.

Bloody hell lads get a grip, 2 goals on his international debut and we're now discussing him leaving the club.

We're Doomed Mr Mannering, Doomed!!!!

If rumours of a takeover are true, then no need to fear as Olsson would stay.

Surely he'd stay anyway.

I'm sure he's over the moon at the moment after the season he had for Blackburn. He's worked hard to force the manager to take him out the reserves and to play him regularly in our first team. To then score two goals on his debut for his international team has probably shown him that he can achieve anything whilst at Blackburn.

Obviously if after 2 or 3 seasons he's become our best player and has not won anything then i'm sure no one would hold him back if a big team came in who regularly won trophies but we all know we're gonna win the league next season so no need to worry :D

Very worrying. He can't play like this and not attract attention.

Um, what do you want him to do, play badly?

Very pleased he has done so well. He has always looked a very good goal threat when he plays, moves around like a striker almost. It would be great if Hoilett made the same sort of strides on the right too!

Wouldn't mind. For the international team at least.

Because otherwise Man City, Spurs, Villa....the wolves are always hungry and lurking around us.

It means he's progressing as a player and should return to us with more experience. Worst case scenario here is that one of those clubs pays good money for one of our players.

But Olsson has said in recent months that he enjoys playing for Rovers so much that he would turn down approaches from bigger clubs if he was given the opportunity to sign a new deal at Ewood.

I can remember pretty much every one of out star players that have left making the same pledge. Duff, Friedel, Santa Cruz, Bentley...

The problem is that, unfortunately, no doubt his Agent will have a different opinion ...

But perhaps, just perhaps, this kid has his head screwed on the right way and looks at what happens to players when they leave us after being the next starlet to move to a bigger club. few really achieve what they look like they will when they are here. He doesn't need to move to get into his national team and has mates here - the young players all apparently get on well and socialise outside of work - so until we stop moving forward why does he himself need to move? Yes, his agent might want his fee but I think Martin may just be strong enough not to move till he himself wants to.

I appreciate the sentiment behind Olsson's comment but it's very hard to believe he'd turn down a significantly better deal from a club playing european football simply because he enjoys playing for us. Especially considering he's only really become a part of the first-team in the past 6 months.

Perhaps it's the fact that he's only come through in the last few months that will keep him here though. Better to play first team football with a team that looks like it's progressing than be a bit part player with a bigger club. Not saying he won' go at some point. Of course he will if he outgrows the club and we can't match his ambitions or his wage demands. I just don't feel the time is yet.
