Stuart Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Singh was an absolute disgrace and hampered the club massively when we needed to get in a proper manager to replace Kean. His in-fighting with Shaw was juvenile and his media interviews made me embarrassed to be a Rovers fan. Glad he's gone, not missed. Singh was on the opposite side to Agnew and Shaw. I'm not sure why you are painting Singh as the problem there. He was no genius but he deserves at least best-of-a-bad-bunch-status.He was certainly the ONLY person at the club who was listening when fans were shouting Kean Out. The rest of that lot were demonising the fans and turning up the PA system. Some VERY short memories on here at times.

martonrover Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 If Singh is being lauded it just a shows how bad the rest were. A chancer who's conduct and persona were a complete embarrassment. To me it was transparent that he wanted to be involved with the team and saw Berg as someone who would allow him to interfere. Then there was the job lot of Portuguese nobodies he shipped in. Marginally the lesser of the evils of the time.
Backroom Mike E Posted May 10, 2015 Backroom Posted May 10, 2015 Mike you are joking mate ??? He is almost single handedly responsible for the embargo by hanging out ludicrous contracts to the likes of Murphy , Etuhu, Orr,Best not to mention the army of Portugese waiters that arrived and barely kicked a ball.I think we can also safely say that Sherwood certainly didn't want him!!! The players you mention were Kean signings. Murphy and Etuhu had the Fulham connection and Orr was signed before Shebby even got here. Kean was all over the shop declaring he wanted Best and Cox, neither of whom were ever mentioned by Shebby. Like Stuart said, at least Shebby wasn't as bad as the rest.

He may have actually been worse in all honesty. The media harm, when we had chance of decent managers, loading us with the Portuguese wonder who took a cut on them, etc

Well, 'best of a bad bunch' still has the word bad in it It's not a positive remark or even a backhanded compliment. He can have that accolade if it makes you feel better but my post still stands. To try and paint Singh as some kind of people's champion is laughable as far as I'm concerned. Do you realise he was was sent here by Venky's to shut the peasants up and make them believe they had a voice? The fact is Singh loved the spotlight, loved the attention and loved preaching to people about football when he had absolutely no idea what he was talking about. The fans were simply the audience he craved, and from recollection he was being paid £400k per annum for the embarrassment he caused. If you or anybody else wants to praise and admire Shebby Singh then feel free. I've never forgotten the embarrassment he caused the club when he was here. He was one of many negatives at that point in our history - being one of the lesser negatives is irrelevant in my judgement of him.

Maybe something we can agree on.Shebby > Kean That's all that counts in my book. Maybe you expect more under Venkys - I don't.
ABBEY Posted May 10, 2015 Author Posted May 10, 2015 Indeed it does Abbey... and rem it works both ways.Haha
JBiz Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Shebby is the best of a bad bunch? Hardly a glowing reference... If Shaw had the Berg contract debacle, Shebby had the ridiculous comments at forum, the portugeezers and the documentary to make him look what he was; another complete amateur or charlatan in a parade of similar. He was another with his heart in the right place I guess and we've not had many.
Rover_Shaun Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Singh had the potential to mess the last remaining embers of the club up quicker than anyone. And he nearly did. Total buffoon.

(Something many on here had been saying for ages). Are you completely sure that Kean and agents had nothing to do with the Portuguese deals? That said, like all of the managers under the Venkys era, Singh would not be someone you would choose to be brought in. But my point was that whilst he was here he did do some good. I can't believe this is being raked up again because the thread was resurrected to have a pop at Gordon. Cheers Abs!
tomphil Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 The fact SEM/Kentaro had a branch in Portugal didn't go unnoticed either
LewisF Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Who are these Portuguese players? Was Nuno Gomes one? Anyway, I don't agree that Shebby should be praised in any way.
Amo Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Looking at it another way, we were 3rd in the table when Singh's mission was completed. And we haven't looked back since.
Backroom DE. Posted May 10, 2015 Backroom Posted May 10, 2015 An interview with Singh here, uploaded Jan 2014. Sounds like Venky's made the decision to remove Shebby from the club on a day-to-day basis. Around the 6 minute mark he starts taking swipes at, I assume, Shelfy. Also says he wants to come back and "finish the job I started".
1arC Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 The King Georges Hall meeting was a classic. Sky sports were there and the 'event' was hosted by Gary Higson. Given that Shebby hadn't been here for very long he needed some help, so had Glen Mullan by his side, who he referred to occasionally now and then, out of earshot of the microphone. Not too sure how Glen feels about that now, as it looked like they were pretty close that day. Given what happened during Shebby's reign, he may be a touch embarrassed.
Al Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Jesus when you think about some of the people who have been in charge and in some cases still are it's a miracle that we are still existing in the Championship

Absolutely not , I'm privy to much that went on behind the scenes to finally rid this club of Kean , Agnew , Anderson , Huber and Indoo sella . Singhs involvement in their demise should not be underestimated . Given my time again I'd do things exactly the way I did it back then . Singh had multiple faults , but had he not been here at that pivotal time . This club would certainly be a 100 times worse off and I'm in no doubt in at least one division lower . The players the before mentioned tried to get in this club are beyond belief . The internal sabotage from Agnew and in particular shaw , from hiding work permits , to deliberately inflating contracts is unforgivable . I'm sure when this tail is finally told it will open far more eyes . I just wish more supporters at that time and before had woken up to the what was going on. A small band of supporters with virtually zero resources took these crooks on and won , had they not I dread to think where this club would be right now . So embarrassed , certainly not , ashamed that more didn't take a stand ??? Certainly

chaddyrovers Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Shebby might have done some good things, but he also did some awful/shocking things 1. signing 5 unproven Portuguese no bodies who were awful and paying Agents fees 2. the power struggle between him, Shaw and Agnew 3. taking 6 weeks to appoint a manager after Kean left 4. embarrassing Media interviews like the 606 interview with Savage and Fletcher. was Anderson still around the club when Singh came into the club back in the summer of June 2012? didn't Agnew not leave until the summer 2013 when Singh wasn't involve with Rovers?

I wasn't having a go by the way, just asking a question, so I hope I haven't upset you. It would be nice for not only me, but others on here to know, in particular about the "players the before mentioned tried to get in the club are beyond belief". Are you able to expand on that at all and if nit, why not?
1arC Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Just a quick thought, but if Shebby's tale will open a few more eyes, when told, why is it not being told? a Current staff member who deliberately Inflated contracts and hid work permits, does not deserve to still be at the club. Surely if this is a known fact, the supporters should be told, especially if he is still at the club. What is he doing still here and should the supporters really be expected to buy season tickets, when we have allegedly got a crook on board?
