yoda Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Only if Rhodes gets injured before he leaves. Nobody replaces the wages of Prem players these days. Was told by a Brighton fan at the match last month that of Wayne Bridges 70k pw 60k is still being paid by Man City with Brighton stumping up 10k. Based on what exactly? Everytime I have seen him I just assume that Man Utd were suckered by a Grabbi type con. A grabbicon! could catch on like Beamo

RockinRover Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 So if we can't get Thomas who can we go for on loan? As much as I don't particularly like him after the way he left us Bentley is an option, but is he up for it?
yoda Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 It's a sign of how far we have fallen when I now think Keith Andrews could be an impovement to our midfield! ffs gord, I just spit out my sausage t cake
neophox Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 What about this formation: Kean Orr, Dann, Hanley, Olsson CKR, Lowe, Murphy, Olsson DJ Campbell. Rhodes Pedersen and Williamsson compete with Murphy and Lowe. Oh forgot Dickson Etuhu, isn't Dickson the same age as Williamsson? Seem to have alot of battlers in midfield now.
Gav Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Just goes to show how far we've fallen with these 2 signings. All credit to Appleton for bringing in competition for places but its a shame we now find ourselves dealing in this market.
neophox Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Lee Williamsson is only a 15 month contract. OK and a freebee.....all the supporters at Sheff U prayed for him to sign for them. He could be useful but looks like a Dickson Etuhu, but time will tell, I really hope Dickson can turn out better under Appleton? Whats happening to Dickson? Been out long.
Stuart Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Just goes to show how far we've fallen with these 2 signings. All credit to Appleton for bringing in competition for places but its a shame we now find ourselves dealing in this market. This sums up our problem - without the emotion and disappointment. By that yardstick, DJ is probably a plus. Allowing myself to wallow (a little) though, I would have preferred Jerome Thomas instead of both of those (assuming Best is fit, of course).
Majiball Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 It's a sign of how far we have fallen when I now think Keith Andrews could be an impovement to our midfield! How depressingly true.
Amo Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 The fact is Keith Andrews who was thought of as the worst player we had in years would probably be our most effective central midfielder this seasonHe really wouldn't. Bolton going great guns with him, I see.
Rover_Shaun Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Lee Williamsson is only a 15 month contract. OK and a freebee.....all the supporters at Sheff U prayed for him to sign for them. I am sure you are aware they are in a lower league
m1st Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 An old school pal of mine of the Seasiders' persuasion is seriously miffed that they've not been able to borrow DJ Campbell back. He reckons that, at this level, he'll be lethal in the Box.
LeChuck Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 I am sure you are aware they are in a lower league But he did play for them in the Championship as well. We're desperately short of bodies and he won't be on much money.
Plastics Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 The only thing that I can recall about Andrews was that he was KEAN, KEAN and KEANING KEAN (in otherwords he was kak). I remember his battling centre back display against Chelsea. we are turning into a team of loanees and wannabee footballers We've never made loan signings before have we? We will be in a much better position than we were with the lads who have been shipped out. We are bringing in players who want to work and can be part of a balanced team. No shame in that. No need for pace when the ball can do the running. I rem Franz Carr had frightening pace and could go past players for fun.... unfortunately he couldn't cross to save his life. It all depends on the individual. Some managers like to use pace on the wings because it's an added threat. Mixes things up, creates different attacks and really puts pressure on the full backs. There are benefits of wingers like Bentley and Figo and there are benefits to wingers like Walcott and King. To say we shouldn't bother with pace seems naive when we seem to have a manager who prefers to set his team up to exploit this and we have the opportunity to bring these people in.

It looks like we could still get thomas http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/west-bromwich-albion-peter-odemwingie-1297452
The Rover of Finland Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Hope Thomas comes for two reasons. He is a good enough to give the a boost for Rovers. Also it is a great thing if the club can sign the players the manager wants.
Plastics Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Hope Thomas comes for two reasons. He is a good enough to give the a boost for Rovers. Also it is a great thing if the club can sign the players the manager wants. A good point. I agree.
koi Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Just goes to show how far we've fallen with these 2 signings. All credit to Appleton for bringing in competition for places but its a shame we now find ourselves dealing in this market. Who do you expect us to sign in the Championship? and who else is buying anything better in this league? If the players Appy brings in can make us competitive in this league then that's what matters at this stage.
Oklahoma Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Welcome to Ewood, DJ Campbell and Williamson. Hope you are very successful. Now I hope that Dunn and Gomes are loaned or sold. Total waste of money
T.J.Newton Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Welcome to Ewood, DJ Campbell and Williamson. Hope you are very successful. Now I hope that Dunn and Gomes are loaned or sold. Total waste of money Bit unfair on Dunn, not his fault he's a knackered, but when he's fully fit to play id rather have him here than at another club, think he should hang his boots this summer though.

Doesn´t he still have one more year left of the contract Venky´s gave him? I can´t him see retiring before the contarct ends.
Backroom Mike E Posted February 8, 2013 Backroom Posted February 8, 2013 Before anyone moans at loans, have a look at how Stoke and more recently Norwich went up. Practically built on loan deals! Not saying we'll go up, but in terms of building a side to go up in future, it could be the way to go.
Muddboy Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Two good signings. DJ is proven at this level – he scored 10 in 17 for Ipswich – and I'm confident in what Williamson will bring. Some argue that these signings show just how far we've fallen. But these are the players you need to sign to get out of this division. Williamson isn't a name and has plied most of his trade outside the Prem, but cast your mind back to the defeat against Charlton last month. They were a team made up of unknowns and they out-fought us every minute of the 90. If Williamson brings that kind of game and attitude he'll do well for us.
AJW Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 would be a happier if we could get a C/B in anybody know of any unattached players
USABlue Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Funny how people moan about players from lower leagues. Yes they MAY not be up to standard but yet they MAY just do the job. In footy it is about the sum of all the pieces. The prem has quite a few successful players who not too long ago plied their trades in the lower echelons. Let's give this Williamson bloke a chance to see how he fits into Appleton's system before we cast him off.
jones_rover Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Hope Williamson can at least add some bite and competitiveness to midfield if and when called upon. I hope we can tie up the loan of Jerome Thomas now, he would be a quality player at this level. WBA have released a statement saying Odemwingie will return to first team training so hopefully we can push this deal through now!
