Stuart Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Not now Stuart. His legs have absolutely gone and like others have said, he's a liability now. He always used to defend high up the pitch and be left one on one but he had the pace to dig himself out of a hole. There's far better options out there and we need to steer clear of aging fullbacks. You're probably right. I just don't rate Olsson as a defender.

Aging fullbacks. Anyone remember Jim Beglin I remember him being magic but his legs had really gone.
johnradfordsubbuteo Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 enjoy choking with the chokers par excellence markus. don't rate derby or clement. they were bang average against rovers and terrible against forest.stuff em. Jim beglins legs nearly went literally.remember rhat horror injury. yeeuk. Jim beglins legs almost literally went.remember that horror injury. yeeuk.
JHRover Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Whether he's the best player in the squad or the worst, the moment we realised that he wasn't signing a new contract this January became the perfect time to let him go as our last chance saloon to cash in. In that respect the club has done the right thing in selling him now. Whether £750,000 is accurate or not, if Derby have paid anything over £300,000 for an ok Championship player who is on a free in five months then more fool them. They are making a habit of paying eyebrow raising fees for players which if FFP is enforced will see them in a mess if they don't go up. I get the impression that four or five players aside (Hanley, Duffy, Conway, Rhodes, Marshall) Lambert is content to let everyone else go and usher in a complete rebuild of this squad. Selling Olsson gives him the chance to do more work as he is one of a small number that could be sought after by others whilst also being fairly easily replaceable. I think it would be a big gamble to let him go without a replacement coming in. Lambert needs to make a decision on a left back for this season and next season and go out and get him. If Spurr is that man then fair enough, but he needs a new contract.
JBiz Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Think olsson is a big loss. Pacey, solid fullback who can tackle and deliver a good cross. Spurr is too slow. I agree - we will be lucky to replace him without some ingenuity.
chaddyrovers Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Rovers dont have any ambition. If we have no ambition Why Did We Bring Lambert, Irvine and Kelly then??? Lambert is Proven At This Level and have promotion on his CV. Good money for an average player out of contract. If we get a decent offer for any of them I wouldn't lose sleep over them going. This should buy us some wiggle room to bring someone in. I agree we have got good money for a player who is out of contract this summer and he didn't want to get a new contract here. Warnock is still a better defender than Marcus Olsson. Warnock was shocking last night. He was far too slow all game and its probably why they have signed Marcus Olsson One I would bring back if it was possible would be Mark Bunn for no 1 and maybe get a few quid for one of the other keepers. I mention Bunn to replace Robinson 18 months ago. when we got relegated we should have keep Bunn and sold Robinson
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 You're probably right. I just don't rate Olsson as a defender. Me neither. Wingers should be worried about playing against you. You need a fear factor. They need to think twice about taking you on. Would anybody be worried about coming up against Olsson ?
Pedro Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Nice to see you changed your opinion on Koita. :-) Haha, yeah I confessed a few weeks back now - I think it slipped under the radar.
JAL Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 They had to bring somebody in so far though they've not shown any ambition and a three million share conversion isn't going to last long in this footballing world. That's why the first team are closer to relegation than promotion. Just read Danny Graham's stats and they don't read well unlike Jordan Rhodes of this level..

Lambert has already explained this January spending plans and why he is mainly restriction to loans deal. How many times do you need to be told? IMO, We will spend big in the summer(10 mil plus) on new players.
Spalding Rover Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Luke Croasedale is someone chaddy will say we should sign in 5days time as its his own idea. then few days later like a cock state we are only loaning players like he keeps telling us!
davulsukur Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Hopefully Lambert can put the Olsson money to good use. A decent centre mid is a must if we are ever to improve. Spurr should be able to do a job between now and the end of the season, its just who's available to cover? Killa? Henley?

Spurr should be able to do a job between now and the end of the season, its just who's available to cover? Killa? Henley? If Henley can play at left back (I'm fairly sure there were rumours of Real Madrid interest when he came through as a left back) then how far off is Nyambe from being able to act as cover at right back? Bright prospect. Maybe this could be a good time to blood him. Although I'm not convinced this season is a dead rubber just yet. Still got relegation to contend with.
Baz Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 I suppose in an ideal world the first players out are the worse I.e Williamson Delfounso Brown etc who just arn't good enough for the first team , And you replace them ones with superior to what IS in the first team and then they drop to the bench that way the first 11 and the bench become stronger.. Agreed, however you have to have players on your bench that others want. In our position, buying clubs want our better players, and clubs who would take our bench players couldn't afford their wages.

How many times do you need to be told? IMO, We will spend big in the summer(10 mil plus) on new players. £10m? Seriously? So we don't buy the players we need now and run the risk of relegation while a huge warchest is sitting in the bank. Why would we do that when we have just bought in a new manager who has had 2 months to assess what he has inherited?
Darwen Rover 007 Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 With the amount of talent that can't get into premier league teams it would be an absolute travesty if we don't get a few more 'decent' names in
Pedro Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 £10m? Seriously? So we don't buy the players we need now and run the risk of relegation while a huge warchest is sitting in the bank. Why would we do that when we have just bought in a new manager who has had 2 months to assess what he has inherited? Because if we spend big before June we go straight back into embargo for the summer and we can't buy players then. New rules come into force in June and clubs can make larger losses - which we would need to be doing to invest heavily.

New rules come into force in June and clubs can make larger losses - which we would need to be doing to invest heavily. Monthly payments to ramp up after June? If that's the case, surely we could find our way round like Boro or Derby.
McClarky Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 If we spend that kind of money it will be like feeding time at the zoo, with more debt and financial ruin to follow. These people would struggle to spend a penny without making a mess of things. The thought fills me with foreboding.
RevidgeBlue Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Think olsson is a big loss. Pacey, solid fullback who can tackle and deliver a good cross. Spurr is too slow. "Pacey" is the only bit I agree with. Other than that I'd say he is defensively poor, can't tackle and when he does get forward his final ball is abysmal. Looks like Lambert has seen through him and isn't deceived by a few flashy runs either. 750k - 1m is great money for him at any stage Imo. So close to the end of his contract it's daylight robbery. Id have thought roughly the same had we got a fee for Julio Santa Cruz. At least Dick Turpin wore a mask.
tomphil Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Let's be right we are getting 250k for him then more on appearances and some tied in IF they get promoted. We'll probably not get near the 750/1mill being banded about but any cash is good considering his contract. Thing is though unless it's put towards wages for a decent free or loan then it's not enough to get anybody good in for any position. It's likely this money is going towards what it's cost to bring in the ones we just have. We've seen this before.
