[Archived] Rhodes To Boro

I said after he'd gone and was getting panned for struggling at Boro that he'd click into gear and will likely be the one who scores the goals to take them up. I'll stand by that and Rhodes in or out of form would have buried that pathetic header Graham missed in the 2nd half yesterday. The glaring difference between a good poacher and a workman like striker was glaring in it's evidence yesterday.

Despite Graham doing well for us since he came in until recently we have looked just as crap without Rhodes as we did with him in more often than not. Graham was a plus to come out of the JR sale but it's negated by the fact he gets partenered by uutter crap like Jackson and Brown. We know about the latter but Jackson is pish poor and offers nothing apart from being slightly quick at best. No end product and no quality whatsoever from those two and Bennett.

Did you not see the header Rhodes missed yesterday? Easier than Graham's, he scored two later but that was a shocker, similar to Koita earlier in the season.

He misses chances and he scores chances because he's an out and out striker and he's always there getting in the positions. Conversion rate must be about 50% over a season and that's what matters. Grahams conversion rate yesterday was zero again so even if we sign him permanent we desperately need a goal scorer alongside him.

The lad who scored their first is someone we should have looked at in his Bradford days

Too right, we were linked when Rhodes was going and he was the type we should have been getting in for 2 or 3 mill to play with Graham and guarantee a few goals. A decent striker at this level and affordable. We simply can't lose the amount of goals Rhodes scored in a season and expect to prosper even if the team plays different and one or two others chip in.

It was never enough before and it won't be again without some sort of bona fide goal scorer in the ranks. Going back to GBs time and even when PL first came it's been a bit misguided by people at the club who should know better to assume we'd be ok.

How do we feel about locking this thread?

If we don't fancy it, maybe stop taking potshots at each other and getting high and mighty. As usual, there are some who debate it properly and a few who make it virtually unreadable as they are determined to be proven right rather than actually read other members' posts.

There's still going to be debate about Rhodes going on though especially if as I suspect he goes on one of his scoring runs whilst we'll struggle to score again this season. Prob better to keep this going.

Chapter 2: Steve Kean - Leader. Martyr. Mate.

Chapters 3 and 4: Myles Anderson 'that tackle'.

Ssshhhh. Don't mention 'the dossier'. I think we're all supposed to have forgotten that ever existed.

I'm still waiting to hear the real reason why its contents were never made public and where that dossier is today, if it even still exists.

All very hush hush.

If you lock it, it will surface in every other thread. Leave it open and don't click it if you don't want to read.

Indeed but we mods have to read it fully, warts and all.

Wonder if the curse of Rovers' old boys haunting the dingles will repeat on Tuesday night?

A Middlesbrough win on Tuesday is essential. Firstly it would all but wrap up 1st place for Boro and prevent the Dingles winning it, but even more importantly it would open up an opportunity for Brighton to make 2nd place theirs if they win.

As it stands Burnley have a 2 point advantage, which if including goal difference means it will need a 3 point swing for Brighton to overtake them. Given Brighton have to go to Boro on the last day its going to be a big ask.

Boro will be content with a point tomorrow and don't seem to be playing well - last gasp wins over struggling sides this week - whereas Burnley continue to avoid defeats. I'm expecting either a 1-1 or 1-0 Burnley win in the typical fashion - a goal completely against the run of play with the away side dominating possession and chances yet not able to take them.
