“It may be they are ready to play in the Championship, like a Ben Marshall, with the scope to grow and get better.

“But they’ve got to be ready-made to help the team as well as grow and become real assets for the football club.”

Why would we be looking at anyone who isn't ready to play in the Championship?

Obviously the only way the owners will release funds is if they think it will make a return and become an 'asset for the football club'... to sell.

Key words there being 'become real assets for the football club'.

Clearly Coyle is attempting to convince the owners to give him some money with a view to developing an asset, so that they can then continue on the cashing in project. In some respects they hit the jackpot with Bowyer's excellent signings which have made them a lot of money, Coyle is now praying they will relinquish some funds, and probably knows the only chance he has of doing this is if he can convince the money men that there is a profit to be made down the line.

It wasn't really a weird signing, Boro' needed someone to help them over the line for promotion. THey and most others expeted Rhodes would be that man as his scoring record at this level is fantastic, 11 million or whatever is a small price for the 150 million they were guaranteed through promotion. I doubt there was any intention of playing him in the prem, he was purely signed to get them there. Savvy business by Gibson, he knows there will always be someone in the championship who will take him on loan too.

Sounds like Norwich are interested

What about Villa? A reunion with Rudy

:rover:

Have Villa not just spent £15m on a striker from Bristol City and 20 odd earlier in the summer on Ross McCormack.

Not to mention still having Rudy and Ayew.
