he  thinks he`s an innovative  tactical genius and everyone else is beneath him,he earned his dislike from rovers fans when he was managing swansea and his team training talk was about how "they won`t be able to handle us"(rovers) he also claimed after our easy win that the rovers bench was laughing at him,if you think we dislike him then go on google and see what the rangers fans think of him🙂

Can you point out other managers that have nothing to do with Rovers that get as much abuse as Russell Martin does on here

I don’t abuse him, good luck to him in his career - I just use him as a neat symbol of the Pep-isation of the game and how football is all the poorer for it.

Exactly this. His Pep-ball reputation sees him get further than he should do.

He finished 19th and 13th in league one with MK Dons.

He took over a Swansea side that had finished In the play offs twice and led them to 15th and 10th. 

Somehow he got the Southampton job. Despite the parachute payments he finished 4th but won the Russian Roulette of the play-offs. In the Premier League they got 12 points, losing 30 out of 38 games.

On what grounds did the Rangers board think he was a good appointment? If he turned up here I’d be furious with that record. Absolute charlatan..

He's the epitome of the modern day manager who has only one way of setting up and playing and won't deviate from that one iota even when everyone else can clearly see it's all going horribly wrong.

You could argue JDT was a little bit like that as well although he clearly lost interest here also Ruben Amorim at Man Ure. At least they both seem to have refreshing personalities though. Martin is useless and conceited in equal measure which is presumably why many neutrals dont like him.

On my part, its purely that I find him detestable, not aware he ever did or said anything against Rovers (at least not that I can recall)

Edit - I suppose I am also annoyed by the media love in for his "playing the right way" and his unbelievable achievement of finishing 4th with Southampton and going up via the playoffs when they should have probably been in the top 2 given their squad and budget, as well as mid table finishes with MK Dons & Swansea, when he should have probably done better with both.

However, My original answer stands, he is a detestable cockwomble

I think the UK sports media fawning over him plays a part in the general dislike. There was a MOTD last season where Southampton had lost again, were bottom of the table and I believe winless after 9 or 10 games, and the pundits were raving about the bloke like he was the second coming Ferguson or Wenger. It was absolutely ludicrous and not the first time it had happened. They were basically affirming this modern day belief that style is better than substance - and with RM it's the concept of a style because his teams are usually utterly boring to watch and rarely get consistent results.

I will say I have nothing personal against him. He comes across as somewhat arrogant in interviews, but his media persona may not match his private persona. I just wish I could be so mediocre at my job and fall upwards with such unstoppable momentum.

The current BBC text coverage of Kairat V Celtic in the Champions League preliminary is a master piece of extremely inconvenienced and bored reporting from Almaty on the near 200 minutes of really bad 0-0 "football".

When it goes to penalties, sounds like they will need to take 20 each before anyone hits it towards goal...

It's Rangers v. Celtic on Sunday. If Rangers lose their board is going to have to reverse course and get rid of him. 

Martin's appointment is also an indictment against Steven Gerrard who was up for the job. He led Rangers to their last title, with an unbeaten record at that. 

His bad spell at Villa and his woeful showing in Saudi has really dented his standing.

I think this is the crux of it here.

He's failed upwards and shows absolutely no humility whatsoever. Then you have the media trying to gaslight everyone into believing he's some kind of football genius after we've just watched his team get pumped 5-0 without the opposition breaking a sweat.

I look forward to watching him fail.

Rovers fans think he's a cock because at the start of the 22-23 season with JDT, before the game (which was Martin's swansea first's home game of the season), there was footage released of him on their socials at training saying how they were going to pass us to death and by the 2nd half we'd be knackered and they could pick us off at will.

We went there and battered them 3-0. He's been a bellend ever since.
