I’ve got a couple of Rovers shirts but I’ve also got about a dozen Rugby League shirts from the team I support. When you sponsor a player you get to keep their match shirt at the end of the season. Next time I need to sponsor one of the prop forwards as the shirts of the guys who we sponsor are too small given RL shirts are a shrink fit to prevent the player being grabbed by the loose shirt.

My ex-wife ended up with my Hornets shirt from the Div2 promotion season of the early 90's! She did look v good in it TBF!! Was tempted to ask for it back when we split but didn't. Wish I had as it was pretty much the classic style - mainly blue with the narrow white and wide red hoops.

Which is your team?

I was born in Accy, but my parents moved here from St Helens before I was born. All my relations are over there, I've been brought up watching Saints.

When my dad died, I found a letter in the loft from 1951,it was from Saints offering him a 3 match trial. I knew about the trial  but I'd never seen the letter, it brought a tear.

His squads in general are enough to make people mourn the departure of Southgate and that is saying something.

It doesnt really matter though as its a non entity of a qualifier against Andorra and a totally pointless friendly. Any players playing in the stupid club world cup should have been left out to have a break and I suspect a few may pull out beforehand.

I was willing to overlook the first squad being regressive, as it was his first one, but both of Tuchel's squads have been disappointing in my view.

Some past it players included and some bang in form players overlooked, pretty much the opposite of how it should be.

Dreadful selection. What on earth has Jones, Henderson, Toney, Walker or James done to deserve calling up?

Liveramento, Guehi, Wharton, Hudson-Odoi, Maguire (Great for England) have all had better seasons...

Come back Garry, all is forgiven..

Absolutely dreadful decisions made on the squad.

What the hell Tuchel?

Tuchel said Livramento and Wharton are going to the under 21s euros

Which is fair enough. That may even have been their preference.

I'd rather have a shot at winning a tournament (even at u21 level) than be part of a squad for Andorra and a friendly against Cameroon.

It’s definitely not his preference. He’s too good to play with the kids, already has international tournament experience and wants to get bedded into the first team ahead of the world cup.

He would obviously prefer a full summer’s break so he’s ready for preseason.

How do you know?

Plenty of players have turned down somewhat meaningless senior team inclusion in order to represent under-21s at international tournaments.

France senior team called up their best under 21s player to miss this tournament rayan cherki.  He'll probably be on the bench

Cherki has been threatening to play for Algeria, so he rather forced France's hand into playing him in a competitive match to lock him in (even though it was likely an empty threat).

Terrible decision by Tuchel, Wharton should not be playing under 21's football at any level.

First big mistake by the new manager, Wharton is exactly the type of midfield player England are crying out for right now.

Wharton rice and Bellingham would be the perfect midfield at the world cup next year

and probably the next 4-6 years too

Mainoo may eventually replace Rice, but the others have 10+ years at the very top

Based on his initial squads, there seems very little likelihood that the above will the midfield at the World Cup.

Although even if it is, I dont know if it is sufficiently defensive to protect a below par defence. To think at one point, we had 6 or 7 centre backs all a world away from the current dearth in quality there.

Of course I would always rather see Wharton playing at as high a level as possible, including the men’s side BUT

Devil’s Advocate:

Might he benefit from playing every game of U21 international tournament football (similar to the old Toulon tournament) rather than two friendlies?

I still say konsa and ghuei are quality centrebacks. Stones could return too

They are good Premier League centre backs, certainly not top level.

Stones is done.

I didn't say top level but they're both very good
