Morton.  That's sticks in the throat. I saw nothing other than a sideways and backwards passing new gen footballer, offered nothing.

Yeah they can all - run a lot, pass it 20 yards, tackle a bit, head the ball a bit, etc. Can the they beat an opponent with the ball at their feet ? Can they be a “.  difference maker “ like Berkovic or Bohinen or Warhurst ?  All that is coached out of them before they’re 15.

I watched the Palace/ Chelsea game for the last 15 minutes or so. I deliberately watched Adam. He trotted around the pitch for 15 minutes. He touched the ball once into touch. Later he got the ball and played a good cross field pass. And that was it.......all in 15 minutes of play. If I were a scout that wouldn't have impressed me.

The first 75 minute he was controlling midfield.  He had one brilliant  passage of play where he went passed two players. Played a one two then put in a brilliant ball which mateta should have scored

I think I'm done with BRFCS if we end up at, Adam Wharton wasn't that good anyway.

Chris Sutton eulogised about Adam in the first half particularly his eye for a pass.

The snapshot you saw was when Chelsea were going all out for the win and were pinning Palace back. Even then Adam was diligent in his defensive responsibilities by tracking runners and closing down players.

It’s his eye for a pass and his ability to regularly deliver the pass at exactly the right pace, place and time that sets him apart from any other midfield player playing in the Prem at the moment. What’s he got you can’t teach players.

Wharton has potential to surpass that class of Modeic/Scholes/Tugay if he can stay injury free.

I so hope he goes to Madrid.

I know we all loved Tugay but surely he was not in the same class as Modric and Scholes as an all round player. If he had been he would have played for bigger teams than Rangers and Rovers

https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/1029821.fergie-lauds-veteran-tugay/

Sir Alex Ferguson is the latest manager to sing Tugay's praises as the veteran Blackburn Rovers star continues to defy the ageing process.

The midfield maestro delivered another virtuoso performance in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United last week, which prompted Mark Hughes to hail him as the best player amongst a galaxy of stars'.

However, Hughes wasn't the only man drooling over the 36-year-old's talents - Fergie also admitted to being blown away by the former Galatasaray star, too.

Hughes revealed: "I spoke to Sir Alex after the game last week and he commented on what a good player Tugay is.

"I told him if he was ten years younger he'd be playing for United, and Sir Alex agreed!

"He's an exceptional player and, given his ability, he could play for anyone in the Premiership, or even the world for that matter."

Although in the twilight of his career, Tugay remains a talisman for Rovers.

He firmly believes he can play on at this level until he's 40, and Hughes doesn't disagree.

""Given his performances this year, I wouldn't doubt him on that," said the Rovers boss.

"Given his position and where he plays, it might be a possibility.

"He has a real love of the game, he still enjoys coming in to work every day, and he has a great enthusiasm for the game.

"Once you lose that, you retire, and he shows no sign of losing that yet.

"At times, I'll try and take him out of the frame to protect him, but we haven't really been able to do that lately (because of injuries).

"But he keeps stepping up to the mark and he's been excellent."

That is one hell of a statement. Modric won the Balon Dor and Scholes is seen by many as the best ever Premier League midfielder.

He still has a long way to go to match modric but I think he's better than what modric was at his age

At the age of 21, Modric was having his breakthrough season in Croatia, which we can  probably all agree is at least a level or 2 below the Premier League

Interestingly enough, that would have been the same season as when Alex Ferguson was talking Tugay up as a Man Utd player if he was 10 years younger (from my last post)

Strange coincidence

Zidane wasn't recognised until he was 24 at bordeaux. Interestingly Zidane said Scholes was the best midfielder of his generation

There is hope for Kristi Montgomery & Jake Garrett yet! 😉

To be fair I don't know enough about his early career and why he doesn't seem to have been on the radar as the talent he obviously was by the time he played for Rovers.

I think at the time  Turkey were a developing nation ((in football terms), & scouting wasn't nearly as worldwide as it is now.  The 3 foreign player rule only ended in the late(ish) 90s so clubs didnt stock their squads up with players from afar as they couldn't play them anyway & it took a little time for clubs/managers to start using as many foreign players as we see now

It seemed more common in those days to discover an unearthed gem (Kinkladze & Pahars spring to mind as other examples).  I am not sure if it played a part in him moving to Rangers, but Souness was Tugays manager at Galatasaray in the mid 90s, so it wouldn't surprise me if he played some part in Tugay moving to the UK, and was obviously a huge part in why he ended up at Rovers after his stay in Scotland

I would hazard a guess that it was a "perfect storm" of events as to how and why he ended up at Rovers, and if it was in the current era, he would have been at one of the top 8 or 10 clubs in Europe

Always love this thread having new posts! I can’t wait for the next update on when a bloke who plays for Crystal Palace completes a pass…

He's the best youngster we've produced since duff. He deserves a thread
