Pickering is a good pro but a squad player at best. If you can get a half decent fee, he's worth moving on IMO.

Anyhow, the key point is, if he hasn't been signed as Weimann's direct replacement, we have neither replaced Batth nor Weimann yet and bear in mind Batth was an outstanding performer for us last season and Weimann had excellent impact and delivered when we needed it with both goals and assists.

Age is irrelevant - it's the quality and ability to perform - Cowans, Moran, Gale etc and presently for other clubs Messi (38), Ronaldo (40), Modric (39) etc

Rovers? No chance. We sacrifice immediate results under the pretence of a longer term plan. When did we last benefit - really benefit - from a player sale?

The Wharton emergence and sale should have been our golden lottery ticket - once in a generation. And where did we get with that one? Plenty of tweets and back slapping among Rovers and the support base about 'one of our own' but naff all to actually show for it, unless you count remaining in business as being something worth boasting about. 

Gestede benefits because he can claim we are 1 window into a 4,5,6 window process which secures him 3-4 years of employment. 

Venkys benefit because it saves them yet more money.

Pasha stooge benefits because if one or two of these players come good and we sell them, even if its for a small fee, it is all profit and he can get a pat on the back from the money men in India.

It's embarrassing that this still needs explaining to people.

I totally agree the system is a shambles, but clubs down the leagues suffer exactly the same way i.e. us taking Tyjon from Rochdale. It isn’t just PL clubs benefitting, although as they are the apex predator, they just get the more polished diamonds as they get older. 

I can’t believe there can’t be changes made to protect clubs’ considerable investment in young players.
I sometimes wonder what the point is in having an academy when the power just lies with the player and more usually, their agent. Invest in a player for 8-10 years, and then come out with a lousy tribunal which I would imagine if absolutely nowhere near their true valuation.  

Did the fee for Finneran ever get angreed and if so, communicated? If he ends up playing even 10-20 games for Newcastle they’d come away with at least a 7-figure sum as and when they decide to sell.

@JHRoverDeveloping 3 young players within the first team squad isn't going to sacrifice results is it? Michalski and Tyjon are highly rated and Montgomery has shown enough he can made an impact at this level, so why wouldnt you develop them given we already invest in our academy and why we have category 1 status
