I’m not sure many would have Bellamy in their ‘all time best rovers’ lineup

no Chris Sutton?

seriously what are we doing here

Paired with Santa Cruz he would. Free running, fast forward and a brilliant combination, if only for one season. Some of the most exhiliarting football I've seen Rovers play.

I was right in line with it. I thought it was going in right until it went past the post. I think if that had gone in we would have held out for a win.

Me too. I could see it clear as day

Just over 2 and a half weeks now to the start of the new season, away at West Brom. All very quiet on the transfer front, albeit with the players in Spain for a pre-season kickabout and some sun. What is worrying me most as it stands is the prospect of losing any of our key players from here on in, such as Travis, Tronstadt, Brittain (although he has kind of gone already in my mind), or Pickering. Pre-season is important in terms of drilling a playing style and gaining team cohesion, and should we lose anyone key at this point, there will be inevitable impacts on whatever has been achieved during the pre-season run up. That is even before we factor in the challenge of integrating any incoming player(s) into the team.

It isn't beyond the wit of our opposition in the league to be delaying their moves in order to derail any momentum we have built up, not withstanding of course that bringing our players into their own set ups would cause similar challenges to those we would face, but hey - maybe they have greater strength in depth and can take the hit, whereas we are paper thin in terms of talent and capacity to accommodate disruption.

But don't listen to me - I'm just a crusty old codger, and I worry about all kinds of stuff that younger folk don't even consider real (yet!).

I'd rather we got our shopping done, declared ourselves 'complete' and set out our stall accordingly, so that worried old gits like me can look forward to the new campaign, instead of being scared of the shadows that most certainly (to me) appear to stalk our club.

COYB! Get ready.

It is very quiet.  I wonder whether the club expected to  have both Travis and Brittain off the books by now and are short of cash for incomings.

There's no way I'd have Bellamy over Sutton.  Sutton was the complete forward.  He had a mix of Teddy Sheringham and Alan Shearer.  Bellamy was quick and a good finisher

One of those times when he had too much time to think where he was going to put it.

I had my head in my hands when he missed that. Remember walking away from old Trafford gutted. Shame because it was such an enjoyable day. The banter with the Chelsea fans outside the ground before the game. Remember one asking me who was going to win I said rovers. He replied 'then you woke up'

He didn’t do much after he left Rovers unless you count his time up in Scotland as something. The best I saw him play was for Celtic when they beat us at Ewood.

Chelsea had a habit of ruining good players.  Duff cole Sutton.  He only played around 10 games for them

Shame Bellamy is such a bellend off the pitch

I think he’s finally grown up by now.  He’s doing well with Wales. I remember seeing him in his very early days at Norwich and thinking - “ Mm, he’s nothing special “.

Agree but he looks a bit of a prick the way he prances around the technical area as wales manager always in the ear of the officials

I’m 41 years old and I’d happily have Bellamy over anyone, bar Shearer in my lifetime.

Duff was very good for Chelsea, injuries slowed him down in the end.

Which Cole did they ruin?

I also thought benny Mccarthy was excellent in his first season.  Then he downed tools. He ended up doing nothing at West ham

And Jansen. Andy Cole before we paired him with Yorke and ruined both of then. Santa Cruz. Going - back Garner, then in the old days Fred Pickering and Andy McEvoy. Just before my time - Peter Dobing  and Roy Vernon. All top class.

Joe Cole. Mourinho had a habit of making technical players become more robotic

Deary me, I never said that he isnt ready physically.

Im saying that we need to be well covered in case he isnt, in case he needs any spells out, in case his injury problems come back or are exascerbated playing mens football.

If he comes in, is of the standard and is physically sustainable, then fantastic, whether we sign someone or not. But we cant just assume he will be.

Also, without signing a new contract, we have seen this script before.

I have nothing to add to my original points and comments regarding Tyjon. We aren't going to agree here so why don't leave it here agree to disagree

We've had so many.  Forgot how good jansen was. His debut goal against spurs everyone had their head in their hands.  Absolute disgrace sven taking keown over Jansen

As I said I’ve seem them all from 1961-62 and I rate Bellamy above all the others bar Shearer and there was some brilliant players in my little list.

I think Matty would be just behind Bellamy for me. He had it all but Bellamy was quicker. Both fantastic players in my opinion,I still shudder when I think about the accident in Rome.

They didn't ruin Duff.

He was a key player for them in two title winning seasons.

Look at their respective careers. That should tell you all you need to know. Sutton was great for us but Bellamy had that X factor. Teams had to line up 10 yards deeper against us when he was playing.

Had he played every game that season - rather than missing about a third of it with niggles - I'm convinced we'd have been in the Champions League. Incredible player when we kept him on the park.

It's difficult to compare Bellamy to a fully fit and firing Santa-Cruz, but I'd have them both a little ahead of Sutton, personally.

I read Jansen's autobiography.  He was with his girlfriend and they decided to go out on a scooter but jansen refused to wear a helmet he said he doesn't have any memory of the accident.  He also said he was penciled in by sven to go to the world cup. Souness broke the news to him after a game.  He had his suit ready and everything then tord grip convinced sven to take an extra defender
