Spoke about how we can't let what happened with Nyambe,Lenihen and Rothwell happen again and we needed to be more proactive with contracts .
Β

who did he tie down to ensure the same didn’t happen?Β

We signed 6(soon 7) new players that fit the type of profile Ismael want, attributes that Ismael wanted like athleticism. Recruitment staff have players with our budget and we signed them. Gestede, Owen, Ismael plus Recruitment staff have been aligned.Β

Sounds like a plan

We have different players on shortlist if Brittain, Tronstad or Travis leave. Jackson confirmed this on his recent podcast

Yeah so just rebuilding a team for a new head coach.

I think we need to differentiate here what we mean by 'plan' as in a club plan to reset, invest and aim for something over a 3 year period versus a head coach just planning his team for the next 12 months after being handed half a squad due to exits.

There is one but there certainly isn't the other, who would bet against another coach doing the same thing here by next summer ?

The only plan here is to spend as little as possible and put a squad together that hopefully won't get relegated, but if it does, then we will reduce some more costs

Apparently, we want to send Batty out on loan, no idea why we signed him back up in the first place.

Potential.

Could have said the same a few years back when we kept sending Wharton and Carter on loan, before becoming important members of the squad,

He's still only 20, seems to be some sort of myth these days that 20/21 year olds should be ready to slot straight into first teams.

This route is needed for many players before they become ready, he might never be Championship ready, but a season of League 2 and then followed up with one in League 1 certainly won't hurt and we can assess it next summer.

Especially with us being well covered in that position at the min.

Something has to give with this Axel signing.

Travis or Tronstad are gone I'm sure of it.

Why? Axel will compete with Cantwell. He’s an attacking midfielder who is aggressive and strong in the press. Perfect for VI.Β
Β

Travis, Tronstad and Taveres then compete for the defensive midfield role with Montgomery and Forshaw as back up.Β

I would argue if Baradj came in then maybe one of them would have to leave. But Forshaw isn’t going to get games and Montgomery seemingly will be more utilised at RB. So 4 CMs competing for those 2 spots behind the advanced midfielder seems healthy.Β

We don't sign players to compete, much less spend 6-7 figure sums on them.Β

We sign players to play. We don't want a squad we want a first XI with the bench made up of low cost loans and youngsters who can step in when needed.

I would be amazed if we spent money on players to come in and challenge those already here.Β

Yeah in terms of current numbers the one definitely on his way out is Buckley if we can find someone to take him.

That said I'll be very surprised if both Travis and Tronstad are here on 1st September. I am pretty sure someone will come in with an offer which we cant turn down in the context of their last year of contract.

Blackpool under the Oystons and Accy Stanley under their pre-Holt ownership used to basically sign a new squad every summer as their previous group were released/sold off to clubs with ambition/loans returned.

Not sustainable and not a plan but they probably signed more players than anyone else, a direct result of the short term approach they selected in a bid to minimise costs.

It involves taking an almighty gamble with league status every year in the hope those signed are good enough to avoid relegation.

I think Chaddy and others would have loved supporting either of those clubs as they could spend every summer excitedly discussing what signings were coming whilst proven players rushed for the exit door.

If you think that 'model' is sustainable or acceptable for this club or division you're wrong.Β

Those most qualified - Mowbray, JDT, Eustace - knew this which is why they aren't here any more.

Don't add Mowbray into that list. He only left because he wasn't offered a new contract. He was more than happy to plod along topping up his pension doing fuck all and being a shield for the owners. Constantly down playing expectations, scoffing at the slightest suggestion of ambition and just generally disrespecting the club and it's fans.Β

Fuck him. Absolute twat.

Wouldn’t surprise me to see Travis go.Β

But I don’t think Henriksson signing has any bearing on his future.Β

I think if Baradji ends up signing as well (somehow) then yeah I think there will definitely be a departure of either Travis or Tronstad.

One thing I'm considering is that they fully expect to lose Tyjon imminently, who is currently the only player that seems like competition for Cantwell. Haven't Arsenal been making offers for him recently?

He's an attacking midfielder - he'll play AMC (spelling the oft injured Cantwell) or AML / AMR (Cantwell can play AML too).

I'm sure he can play CM too, but I don't think that's what we're buying him for.

Travis would generate more money in so of the two of Tronstad and Travis I think we will see Travis go..

Surely we can't need to sell Travis.Β

We need all of them - out season fell apart last year when our starting CMs got injured.Β

Financially we've spent utter peanuts - I'd be confident in saying Brittain and JRC being sold has more than financed our transfer dealings so far.

Plus letting Dolan, Weimann, Batth walk too will have eased any pressure on the wage bill.

Sounds nice at the moment. But as ever, the contract situations are the elephant in the room so either they get sold and we get massively weakened or they leave in a year for free until we sort it.

The last four words are unnecessary.

The rest of it though, is a pretty accurate description of Mowbray's last two and a half years here?

I don't disagree with any of that but the club operates to continually drive down costs and where possible, generate income through player trading.

Football is secondary.
