If he turned down Birmingham City on deadline day, surely we can’t match his wage demands?

He’s probably had other offers, be surprised if this happens tbh

Would likely think he turned them down due to location. Certainly wouldn't be down to wages or ambition.

Great deal if it happens. An experienced head is badly needed. I don't think it would take him long to get fit. He's a player that reads the game well which will make up for his lack of game time.

Dawson - scored two own goals in the same game last November, was left out of Wolves 25 man squad in January 2025 and hasn’t played a competitive game since

Wolves paid over 30mill for two centre halves in Jan

whilst he would need time to get up to speed even his knowledge in the changing room would be good

Dawson would be a perfect signing in current circumstances. Vast experience that we need, leadership, useful on corners. Would give me a lot more confidence for the season.

Whether Dawson signs or not, it shows we're in the market for a free centre half which is very promising.

Hopefully we bring an experienced one in as I think that changes the make up of our transfer window dramatically.

One of them only played 5 games after signing.

For me, it’s a massive red flag when a 35 year old defender on the back of some really poor form is left out of the squad completely halfway through a season and then doesn’t play a competitive game for the best part of 7 months.

If we were going down this route, why didn’t we just offer Batth a new contract on decent terms?

They’re contradicting everything they’ve been preaching for the whole summer. Goes to show what we all know, this has always been about cost cutting rather than squad building.

Mentioned previously that we should take a look at Kortney Hause. He’s been in the news for the wrong reasons this week (crashed his Lamborghini in Birmingham) but he’s the right age and certainly not a bad cb.

The other name, which is never happening, is Kurt Zouma. His wages would be huge but at the moment he’s not earning anything so who knows. Think Danial Amartay is also potentially without a club. They are too high profile though. We’ll probably end up with the lad from Oxford who was released on the last day of the window.

Understand your point and can see why you think that.

On the flip side, shortly after that game you mentioned, their manager was sacked and replaced by Pereira (very end of December) who then clearly made a very quick decision that he wasn't in his plans.

Don’t disagree wit most of that

however two new signings at big prices made and toti was out injured until mid jan or feb Dawson at his age was clearly not at th at required level

However dawson at this level and for our obvious needs would be perfect. Why would brum want him if they didn’t think so

how realistic or even true it is time will tell

And Wolves went from second bottom with 9 points/-19 goal difference to 42 points and 16th in the league.

Suggests Dawson was part of the problem and teams clearly haven’t been beating down the door for the last 7 months to sign him

Kortney Hause would be some addition, just can't see it happening unfortunately

I thought Hause retired from injury two years ago

It’s quite strange how this Dawson rumor comes out around the same time the disastrous deadline day of Hyam leaving and not being replaced and fans complaining about lack of experience. Probably a smokescreen but would be a good signing although lack of fitness an issue

I want to be positive, I really do. It’s difficult when we’re going from a 29 year old who was at his peak and one of the first names on the teamsheet until a few days ago to a 35 year old who hasn’t played for 7 months and was so bad that he wasn’t even registered for half a season.

The fact that no one else is even willing to take him on a free, with all the money flying around this summer suggests most clubs have seen what Wolves saw when they removed him from the squad.

Lots of smokescreens at the moment. Not daft the two stooges, they know that the pressure is building both in terms of results but more than that the outrageous transfer activity of this summer.

Gestede speaking to people via LinkedIn.

Hastily organising a 'podcast' or whatever it is with Gestede, Ismael and Owen - attempting to present a united communicative front (of course all questions submitted in advance, cherry picked and rehearsed beforehand).

Handing Rhodes a work experience position to charm the fans who remember his goalscoring efforts.

Giving Nixon a name or two of targets we are 'after' to replace Hyam.

All part of the playbook. None of it actually matters, what matters is offloading quality players that we owned that got us into top 6 contention, trousering the proceeds and gambling away our Championship status.

I dont think it changes anything "dramatically."

Anybody we do sign will take a long while to get fit and considering they are a free agent in September, there will be a reason for that. It would be a desperate signing following the untimely loss of a key player.

Whoever if anyone we get still represents a huge downgrade on Hyam.

Suggested Dawson pretty much as soon as Hyam was out the door, I'd like it to be true but could also just be Nixon putting 2 and 2 together for a story....

I agree we shouldn’t be in this position but we are so I’m talking about our current options

he turned Birmingham down on Monday so that’s not true

Also Connor Wickham scored a worldie goal today playing for the 'unattached 11', his name will be banded about and linked to skin flints like us in the next week or so

i love the optimism of our fans

....but the club wont be signing any one half decent on short term or free deals...
because they think they have signed decent players

(in reality shipped out our decent experienced players who weren't offered a new contract)

keep dreaming lads, its going to be a tough season and this transfer deadline day sums it up

sell a key player to a club promoted from L1 to help them stay in the league (yes his contract was up after this season)

sign ON LOAN a less than key player from a club that came up from L1 ...

we are destined for L1 😞

We had an obvious priority at CB once we "lost" Baath and Hyam but, as usual, we haven't treated it as an emergency and addressed it as quickly as possible.

Once again scrambling about in the dying embers of a disastrous window.

This lot never learn. Should have kept both---obvious.

Depends if he's still up to it, a fit Dawson would most definitely be an upgrade, but it's a big if.

Pity he wasn't as well as rather than instead of
