chaddyrovers Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Delighted with the win. Gudjohnsen would have been my man of the match. Much better second half performance from him and got us the winner.. All 3 subs made an impact. Still dont like us playing 3 at the back. Would be 4-2-3-1 formation as that is always my preferred formation. Should have scored more but could have conceded more. Delighted we won. Roll on to Leicester now. Let's win that one. COYB🔵⚪️ 4 Quote
Lancaster Rover Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago (edited) Appalling first half and started the second with a whimper. Started to pick up after 10 mins or so in the second half but when Moroshita missed that chance I thought we were done for. Lot of credit has to got to a few of the players individually grabbing the game by the neck and making something happen. Most notably McLoughlin, TGH, De Neve and Montgomery. Great to see the BBE turn on Ismael and ramp up pressure on the Venky’s/Pasha. The win after subs does more harm than good though in removing the dud, Ismael Edited 11 hours ago by Lancaster Rover 2 Quote

COYB🔵⚪️ The three at the back allows us to play wing backs and today they were probably attacking more than defending. Alebiosu and De Neve were really good today and the first goal came from Alebiosu getting up the pitch. Personally think we are more suited to a 3/5 at the back with the players we have but it's good to have flexibility and be able to change. 5 Quote
Hasta Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago (edited) Strange game. That was as poor as we’ve been at home. We gave Southampton so much space to break into it was very naive . And yet we looked like we could cause them problems at the back. Once we went behind I was expecting the second to come. We hung on until half time, then took turns in missing huge chances. When Arma hit the post i would have been worried if I was a Saints fan. Then a tactical master stroke by the Saints manager allowed us back into the game. Credit to the subs who also seemed to give us that foothold. I thought Montgomery’s naive enthusiastic energy helped us in midfield. The attitude was right. A bit of fortune with the equaliser and then pleased for Gudjohnsen to hit the winner. Shout out to Toth for the big save at 1-0. Match winning. Edited 11 hours ago by Hasta 3 Quote

I think if we’re playing 3 at the back you can’t have TGH and Tronstad together otherwise we end up too deep. Tronstad going off changed the dynamic in the middle of the park where you had Montgomery and TGH on different lines for the first time which I felt gave us more balance and allowed us to use the space created much better 2 Quote
arbitro Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago It was really strange to hear supporters booing and singing 'you don't know what you're doing' to a manager when your team are one up. They might have had a point after Still took off their best player and replaced him with a centre half who went to play in midfield. I think there might be two managerial vacancies in the Championship this week. Russell Martin anyone? 😂😂 3 Quote

Tronstad was really off today and bringing Montgomery on certainly got us on a different trajectory going forward but he also got in several telling challenges in our final third. TGH arguably had his best game for us today. 4 Quote

roversfan99 Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Always satisfying to (finally) win a game and a desperately needed 3 points. Wasnt a very good performance but it doesnt matter. My fears over relegation havent been alleviated in any way or my concerns over the quality of the manager and players but its 3 points on the board. The 2 forwards I thought again were poor, especially Gudjohnsen but if he bags the winner then he can be as poor as he wants. The thing is, we have no reasonable alternative. The defence is also a bombscare, we wont keep many clean sheets this season. Happiness for Wharton personally that he is over his injury and also that one performance at Watford I think perhaps convinced people that he is better than he is. Has always been poor on the ball and has a mistake in him. Im not having Miller either, not a good defender. I dont think playing the back 3 helps them though. He is limited but I thought man of the match was probably Gardner Hickman who did well, either him or Toth. The game swung on those 2 poor misses by Armstrong but Toth did really well on both occasions. Hes such an upgrade on Pears. Alebiosu has had better games but is still our main threat. Fortunate with his goal (how bad is McCarthy for Southampton) but deserves it for his performances this season. 3 Quote

Agreed - violence at football is something I'll never get my head around. "We have a different opinion / you support a different team to me, so I'm going to punch you in the head". Very caveman-esque. 3 Quote

M_B Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago As much as the subs made a difference, leaving the best 2 forwards on was probably more important. Big mistake on Tuesday taking them off,we went backwards badly after, it definitely influenced Ismael's decision today. Big goal for Gudjonson, quiet first half but his influence grew as the game went on,culminating in bagging the winner. Looking forward to him linking up with Cantwell now he's a few games under his belt. I was critical of Toth at Cov, but he's won us the game today. 1 Quote
davulsukur Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago I think he needs to move back to a flat back 4. I know we won, but our 3 CB's are too slow and we are cut open with ease on the break. It's tricky, as we've got players better suited to being a wing back (Hedges, De Neve, Alebiosu) but we'll continue to ship goals for fun, if we stick with a back 3. Toth really bailed us out today. However, we'll struggle to create much in the 4-2-3-1. An unbalanced squad really, not suited for either formation in all positions. Quote

A GK at this level is always going to have the odd bad game. The difference now being that it is the odd bad game, as opposed to the odd good game (what we became accustomed to with his predecessor). 1 Quote

Bbrovers2288 Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Always glad for a win. I didn’t bother watching it today as I feared the worst and especially when I looked at ht and we were 1 down but was chuffed when I looked at ft to see we turned it around. Fair play. still, end the season now. Quote
