He spends all week posting rubbish on social media. I wouldn't care if he was playing well, but he's been here ages and you can count on one hand the number of good performances. He's a waste of money, never a leader, petulant, and definitely not who you want in a relegation battle.

Maktar Gueye is a poor footballer, but Cantwell had some gall taking the mick out of him on Sky Sports the other week over his skill level. Haven't seen Cantwell do anything useful for this team for quite some time. People in glass houses, etc.

Agree. He does alot of ineffectual fancy flicks and pointless passes. He never affects games

Nowhere near as good as he thinks or is or his reputation. But in this squad he is still one of the best players we have got and valuable in the situation we are in.

Cantwell is a quality player surrounded by absolute dross. So much so, he’s trying to do far too much on his own to make things happen and it’s not working for him, the manager should be in his ear.

This squad has far more pressing issues than Cantwell, we are lucky to have him.

I completely agree with what Gav is saying above (which isn’t something I say often 😅).

But, he really has been poor lately.

There’s a time and a place for the flicks and the fancy stuff and he seems to make the wrong call on when to do them.

Who cares what he posted on social media? FFS, footballers are just normal people outside the pitch. 

Todd Cantwell is the least our problems and what he needs his movement ahead of him from our forwards. 

he is clearly playing whilst carrying an injury last couple of games. 

It was only a few weeks ago, people on here had conspiracy theory he wasn't playing cos of a possible clause saying Rovers had to pay money for him reaching 50 appearances. Look how that turn out

We somehow seem worse with him in the team lately which is bizarre. The whole formation wants binning for me.

It might suit scrappy away wins but at home it’s failed time and time again. What’s the point in having 5 defenders if we concede 2 at home in the first half?

It doesn’t suit players like Cantwell and creates us very little chances. Lack of movement in front of him or runners from midfield give him no options to thread onto.

You can see the intent / frustration; he's trying to make things happen, but he's trying too hard.

If he had a little sprinkle of quality around / in front of him, it's a different result.

He was our outstanding player pre-injury and we shouldn't forget that, though he was also dog shit today.

I've seen plenty enough of Cantwell in the last two games to confirm that he's a passenger.  Though they all are.  He only affects games when he's deep in his own half.  When there's no pressure on him. When he's in the opposition half he usually disappears

Compare him to Adam Wharton.  Though they're slightly different positions. Wharton has few touches but every touch has a purpose.  He makes them count.  Cantwell has about 6 touches fannys about and either loses the ball or plays it safe

I think we're quite lucky to have Cantwell here and should be more grateful. The state we're in, we may not have another in the Cantwell mould for a while.

As others have said, he is surrounded by dross, players who aren't on his wavelength and this is clearly resulting in massive frustration.

Like a few on here, I enjoy seeing what experts within the game have to say. An example below of somebody whose football knowledge I rate highly.

Posted, what, 7 hours after seeing Rovers hold his beloved Middlesbrough to a 0-0 draw? Fair play. He's not wrong.

I don’t think anyone with any sense would question Cantwells technical ability. However his decision making abikity, tactical awareness and understanding is currently miles of it. Admittedly he’s not blessed with superstars around him but you piss with the penis you’ve got. Being miles away from where you’re meant to be isn’t helping him. Plus getting the ball taking too many touches and then passing sideways could be done by one of the 5 defenders and Tronstad, leaving Cantwell higher up
